There will come a time when Apple has saturated its Mac OS and iOS markets and growth will level off (it's happening now). And... as they try to get the existing customer base to increase their Apple eco-system purchases, there are limits to the discretionary spending because all assets tied to interest rates are inflating. In macro-economics language, rent-seeking businesses almost always suffer in late-stage cycles.

Apple, will eventually, have no choice but to try to expand by targeting the Windows/Android customer base. It will be the only growth area left.

Evidence is to the contrary. Apple installed base continues to surge, now over 1.3 BILLION, up 30 % in just two years, consisting of new purchasers and switchers from Android. App Store revenue is far from leveling off, and continues to surge. Strong growth trend in installed base along with new AR technology just coming on line with installed base of AR compatible phones about to surge by hundreds of millions of phones in the next two years bodes well for continued revenue.

Services as a whole, already multi-platform in Music, is growing at tremendous pace and has huge growth potential (is already the equivalent of a Fortune 100 company and the revenue from services in just one quarter now dwarfs all of Facebook.). Apple is dominating new markets it enters, that have huge growth potential, e.g.,wearables with Apple Watch and AirPods, and Apple Pay, while maintaining market domination in phones, tablets, all in ones, etc.

Apple has no interest in targeting Windows/Android users, other than getting them to switch, in most areas as there are no profits, e.g., smart phones where Apple already has 90% of profits. Making Apple Music multi-platform made sense to Apple as it was easy to do and each user brings in a net profit.

Understandable, when the likes of Tweetbot do a much better job.

What? :(

I’m not sure I trust a third party app with my data and having to pay for it doesn’t make me feel better.

First you need know how:

1- SSL/TLS works https://www.digicert.com/ssl/
2- API works https://blogs.mulesoft.com/biz/tech-ramblings-biz/what-are-apis-how-do-apis-work/
2a- https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/api-reference-index

Then go back here and you will understand CerebralX quote.

Not surprised. They killed the Twitter app on the Watch last year too for really no good reason. It was useful to see what was trending with a few quick taps. I never downloaded the Mac app and now glad I never did. Wouldn't pay money for a Twitter app on iOS or MacOS when the official app is free and good enough as is the website itself.

Unsurprising. Last time I checked they still didn't support more than 140 characters in a Tweet. Clearly they were letting it slide.

I've switched to Twitterrific on all devices. It's still lacking some features, but it's way better than the finally officially abandoned Twitter app.

The new app better be in chronological order like this one is!!

The algorithm is HORRIBLE. No one likes it.

I love using the twitter mac app on my computer because everything is in chronological order, just how twitter is supposed to be, and unlike how it is on the IOS app.

Pleaseeeeeee stay in chronological order!!!

Is tweetbot in chronological order? I only want to use a twitter app that doesnt run on horrible algorithms!

Thanks
Not going to be a new app

Good riddance. Twitter is a libertarian troll box for extremists and sock puppets. Now and then celebrities break up the hostile atmosphere with comedy relief or popular hashtags, but if celebs and CEOs really care about human rights and environmental causes they should dump Twitter, make it clear why, and never look back.

It's actually quite easy to keep away from all that angry **** if you want. Depends entirely on who you follow or mute.

Can be, but then you would have to become a citizen disconnected from political discourse and modern events. It's bad enough social media is causing politicians to become disconnected from reality.

Better to go back to old school hard journalism and stop giving crazy people and trolls a megaphone.

I remember when Mint killed their Mac desktop app... I stopped using Mint. Note to Twits, don't drop a product unless you have a replacement ready to go or lose audience/users.

I find Twitter to be a great way to follow Sports and news about my favorite teams.
Following beat reporters gives news on NFL, college football and baseball, things I enjoy
And fans of the teams can interact with each other in ways they wouldn't otherwise

It doesn't have to be all about politics, politicians and celebrities (or even cat videos)
Follow who and what interests you and discard the rest

More apps will keep dropping Mac OS if units sales continue to slide.

I don't understand why Twitter seems to be against desktop apps.

Desktop apps like Tweetbot let you have an efficiently sized Twitter window on your screen at all times, so you can see updates as they come in. A tab in your browser tends to get ignored more.

Right now Tweetbot lives on the right side of my screen. I'd probably engage with Twitter less if I didn't have a dedicated app.
