There will come a time when Apple has saturated its Mac OS and iOS markets and growth will level off (it's happening now). And... as they try to get the existing customer base to increase their Apple eco-system purchases, there are limits to the discretionary spending because all assets tied to interest rates are inflating. In macro-economics language, rent-seeking businesses almost always suffer in late-stage cycles.

Apple, will eventually, have no choice but to try to expand by targeting the Windows/Android customer base. It will be the only growth area left.

Excuse my ignorance I don’t use Twitter, but do they make Windows and Android apps and are they continuing support for those versions?
In the big scheme of things: web, Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, etc. I imagine tweets originating from the macOS app formed a tiny fraction of 1% of all tweets and so it just wasn't worth their time.

Erm...what.

What the hell has this to do with the topic.
It's about twitter, not Apple.

It’s such a POS I actually stopped using it about 2 weeks ago and switched to web. I feel vindicated.

Same. Granted, the app was absolutely garbage. But not having a desktop client is a pretty big deal - and I don't want to have to pay $20 for Tweetbot.

For me, the price of Tweetbot was easily worth it to get rid of the algorithmic timelines and the ability to sync my reading position within timelines across all my devices. Tweetbot made twitter useable again for me.

Twitter is a billion dollar company that can’t maintain a Mac app. A one man dev shop could probably do the job. Anyhow, they should at least open their API up to let developers build proper apps. I don’t understand Twitter. Too many bean counters are driving bad decisions.

Twitter is a waste of time. It's a place for people to act on instinct rather than a deeper reflection.
It has some entertainment value though. I follow some funny parody accounts. Some smart participants with some meaningful essays will use Twitter as a quick way to connect people to their work. It can be a useful medium to get local news summaries, too.

But yeah, there are too many people who use it the way they do Facebook, to post rants or vanity snippets.

Now I imagine Jobs would have thanked them by removing Twitter's mac integration. I'm curious if Cook will fight at all for the platform.

I get that fighting over already abandoned software is stupid, but twitter killing a mac app is symbolic bird to apple. You can't have large brands backing away from the platform all together, because it allows others other developers to question their investment in the platform.

Should download the Tweeten app then. Tweetdeck, but better. And for nearly every platform and free: http://tweetenapp.com/
Looked nice, but does not say what they store on their servers and do with our data. Does not work without making a connection to tweetenapp.com, so doesn't seem to be a local Twitter client. No privacy policy or anything like that (the developer should google for GDPR).

I think any of us that use this app knew this was coming. It hasn't been updated in just about forever but I was hoping that they would instead put more effort into updating it but with this news obviously that isn't the case. Although I have both tweetbot and tweetdeck, I use this app on the daily. Will have to get readjusted again
