Stop calling it verification. It's not. It's pay to play. They don't give a s**t who you are, just pay the $8 per month and you can pretend to be anybody and they will go along with the charade.

What's funny is Musk loyalists think he's doing something righteous and bold by opening the blue check to all. But it makes the blue check completely worthless and instead of representing that a person is an expert or figure of knowledge or importance, all a blue checkmark now symbolizes is Musk duped you into spending $8 a month because you are vain.

I can understand charging public figures a fee, almost. But this should not be open to any old person. I mean who cares if I get verified? It's not like I have an army of fakes trying to pretend to be me.

I always thought the check mark was to be able to differentiate from a real account and a spam one, otherwise why do you need to be verified?

if bots have to pay $8 x 14M accounts, that's ~$112M per month. It still helps the platform.
For content creators to upload 10 minutes, not for content readers.

everyone verified = every bot account is paid for. if not every bot account is paid for, not everyone is verified and that helps reduce misinformation.

I can see Elon's point of view, he just burned 44 Billion on Twitter, he has to make it up somehow, if at the least create revenue for Twitter to expand so that he doesn't have to reach into his own pockets. No one's forcing anyone to get verfiied, with a 8 dollar subscription, everyone wins. I think the whole 8 dollar subscription got overblown because celebrities feel insulted that they they're being charged, more entitlement than anything else.
