After playing with it for 10 minutes, this is what I was afraid Catalyst apps would be like – a way for lazy developers to port over their iPad apps without having to design a desktop experience. I hope Mac apps don't become an afterthought for developers who feel like they just may as well support it.
This whole Catalina experience has turned me from an Apple fan to just an Apple user. At this point we will se how long that even lasts.

Well, the Apple News app on macOS feels terrible. And it's a terrible port. I really hope they won't all be like that.

How about Sign in With Apple?

How could they release this without that feature after abusing folks 2nd Factor mobile numbers for advertising?

The official Twitter app for iOS is dreadful, I don't know why anyone would want a similar experience on a Mac... ?

I tested it, it smells too much like the iPad version. And the "previous" button has a really terrible placement. Not for me I prefer the web version.

Twitter is really lazy. They really only have their service and not much else to deal with and yet they can't even code their own native Mac app. They gave the task to a third party company on the previous Mac app.

I'm curious what they're doing all day.

I'm still using the MacOS TweetDeck app, it seems to work fine for most things. I also have Tweetbot but I prefer the former.

After reading this article, I downloaded the app. This is a review, and I agree:
Interface is confusing. Not native Mac app... said:
I clicked on the new tweet button and it opened full screen on a different space? Why? Also the text is so tiny. It's harder for me to see than just using Twitter.com in Safari. Twitter.com is more usable. I was looking forward to this but it's just an iPad app and the UI isn't optimized for multi-window where you interact with a mouse. *sigh*

The app made it harder for me to see the navigation menu as well.

This really look like some lazy ****. And they had a decent app (the one before the crappy web ui one) that had UI/UX that worked. Who makes these decisions?!

I also don't get this whole Catalina stuff. You could also basically just take the web version and paste it in an App container/ window.

So far it seems these Catalina apps suffer from same problem like the Apple News app does. Fonts and text styling sucks, it's very laggy, etc.

What’s the benefit of using this vs the desktop web version that already works so well?

Does the website do automatic dark mode and push notifications? I honestly don’t know. I like the app for these reasons and that it keeps me logged in.

It's too bad the official twitter app is riddled with ads and doesn't do simple things, like... ya know... SHOW MY TIMELINE IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THINGS ARE TWEETED!

When they started restricting the API's to destroy the 3rd party apps slowly, it started going downhill.

R.I.P. the ORIGINAL TweetDeck app.

Ads are fairly minimal and you can do what you're asking:

Just an FYI as it may have been a while since you've used it.

These Catalyst apps are turning macOS partially into Windows 10. I honestly don't care for these hastily ported apps that are poorly adapted to the Macintosh Desktop Experience.

Tweetbot forever.
I have Tweetbot, however I prefer the official app for a number of reasons:
  • It shows conversations much better than Tweetbot. I can immediately see if a tweet is a part of a longer thread..
  • I can immediately reply, favourite or react on a tweet with Twitter
  • Its discover function works great and allows me to connect with more people and information easily
The only downside of the Twitter app are the ads..

If Tweetbot allowed for a similar view that allows me to immediately see a thread, I would probably switch to it..

Using the Twitter app doesn't feel any different from using any other Mac app. Everything works as it should.

Catalyst and the apps made using it are both brand new. It’s going to take time for Apple to fine tune the experience and for developers to make the most of it.

If this twitter app is what iOS app feel like on Mac then **** it. It's literarly just iOS UI in a Mac app window. wttf is this?

Scrolling feels like scrolling on iPad but since im using a mouse it feels weird. Text cursor is blinking in the middle of the line while i type and does not move with the text. App is slow.

Good Notes 5, which was postponed since June as they were waiting for Catalina to arrive, just released as a Catalyst app on the macapp Store: 8 bucks

It is what I expected. If you want a proper Mac app, do it properly. These are doodle apps.
