I have Tweetbot, however I prefer the official app for a number of reasons:
The only downside of the Twitter app are the ads..
- It shows conversations much better than Tweetbot. I can immediately see if a tweet is a part of a longer thread..
- I can immediately reply, favourite or react on a tweet with Twitter
- Its discover function works great and allows me to connect with more people and information easily
If Tweetbot allowed for a similar view that allows me to immediately see a thread, I would probably switch to it..
The website does dark mode, some notifications (notPush) and generally feels really well made. If you haven’t yet, try the desktop version. It’s actually pretty good.Does the website do automatic dark mode and push notifications? I honestly don’t know. I like the app for these reasons and that it keeps me logged in.
I hope Mac apps don't become an afterthought for developers who feel like they just may as well support it.
How it does that matters.I see it differently. Before Catalina we didn't have the official Twitter app on macOS. Now, and because of Catalina we have it. The app does what is supposed to do. We shouldn't be dramatising everything in this forum. Catalina brings some technologies (Marzipan and SwiftUI) that make the promise that we will keep seeing great apps on the Mac in the future. These technologies will also help developers bring their apps to both iOS and macOS without needing to rewrite everything from scratch. The Mac has a small market, so it is good to see Apple recognising that and trying to help developers make apps for the Mac, by making the whole platform more attractive.
If developers can be bothered instead of taking the easy route.Catalyst and the apps made using it are both brand new. It’s going to take time for Apple to fine tune the experience and for developers to make the most of it.
You can change this.
"Top tweets" are the default and it jumps back to that if you don't use Twitter for like 12 hours. Could be an even shorter period. This is on every platform though so that's just generally upsetting with Twitter. Just let me stay on "newest tweets first" please?Ads are fairly minimal and you can do what you're asking:

Just an FYI as it may have been a while since you've used it.
Keep telling yourself that Catalyst isn't cross platform.
…with a glorified web wrapper becoming the standard from Apple, I am not hopeful for the future.
Just click on the "star" (with 2 stars next to it) in the top right. It will allow you to view latest tweets. Only issue is you will reset to top tweets first, every so often (at least the iOS version does). It's too bad the official twitter app is riddled with ads and doesn't do simple things, like... ya know... SHOW MY TIMELINE IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THINGS ARE TWEETED!
When they started restricting the API's to destroy the 3rd party apps slowly, it started going downhill.
R.I.P. the ORIGINAL TweetDeck app.
I agree, in full screen mode the app is not looking good. Especially on an iMac..I just mistakenly put the app into fullscreen mode, not a very good implementation really. Just pillar boxed the feed rather than fill the screen.
This is because it uses Marzipan, a technology only found in Catalina. The cost of bringing and supporting Marzipan to older macOS releases would be too big and Apple of course wouldn't even think about doing that. This is the cost of evolution.Well how about that? You need the latest MacOS installed. Won't install on my mid-2011 iMac.
This is the first step on my personal drudging slump down the road to enforced software obsolescence.

Anyone, is there a setting for that? Can't find anything..Has anyone found a way to pin the latest tweets to top? I know how to switch between Latest Tweets and Top Tweets, but I don't want to have to manually scroll to the top every time they come in.
With SwiftUI, we're going to see a fresh new barrage of poor quality apps into the market. With the endorsement from Apple, this is going to bring so much more garbage than Electron ever did.
"Port your iPad app to macOS with one checkbox"
Quality software used to be one of the cornerstones of the Mac ecosystem, and with a glorified web wrapper becoming the standard from Apple, I am not hopeful for the future.
