Why does anybody pay a single dime for any feature on social media? Like subscriptions on Instagram, YouTube, etc.

I can see contributing to content creators on YouTube. There's a lot of great content, and the creators deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. I've recently started following food prep videos, and I'm learning so much. That has value.

Twitter is worth $8b according to creditors. It was purchased for $44b.

Sure seems like a failure to me.
It's worth $4 billion 🤣 if you ask Musk

Tweetbot removed the ads and crud for about $1 a month. That is the only tier with a chance of saving Twitter. Plus Musk leaving and taking his X with him.

Someone recently asked me to explain Twitter and I said “Do you remember being at a really really good party, but then the awful kid arrives, you look around, and the kool kids have already left“.

The people who left by and large were garbage anyway. This isn’t to claim X is perfect, but the world is a better place without people like Ron Perlman blabbering their 75 IQ takes they got from their TV.

Social network X, previously known as Twitter, may soon offer more than one subscription tier. Code in the app suggests that the Premium offering could be split into three, including Premium Basic, Premium Standard, and Premium Plus.
Which means they are officially planning to put X behind the paywall.

Which is also a sign from Musk that he’s waiving the white flag on trying to earn cash through ads (because advertisers have left or are buying less ad time, and those that left, aren’t coming back)

Everyone will switch to Bluesky or Mastodon instances at that point.

This is a great idea! Normally you have to pay for premium XXX but it makes perfect sense that you'd pay less for just X...

Bring back the bird.

That "X" looks awful.
I think X has potential to be a cool app if it pivots away from Twitter.

What I mean is, Twitter should be to X what Instagram is to Facebook. Separate but related.

X should be more though - real name or phone number verified only, integrate payments, shopping, games and services.

Elon said he wanted an “everything app”. X in its current state is simply the charred remains of Twitter with a minuscule amount of greenery poking through. Possibly weeds lol.

When it comes to business, he knows what he's doing, it seems.

SpaceX: Yes, this is his baby. I hope you are comfortable with Elon cluttering the Earth's orbit (over 50% of the satellites are his) and for having the power to influence the outcome of Ukraine invasion.

Tesla: Contrary to popular opinion, Elon isn't responsible for starting Tesla, but he was an early investor and board member, and largely responsible for getting over $100B in venture capital fundings. But the technology and vision behind Tesla are largely the works of other Tesla employees and management.

SolarCity: This is a company found by Elon's cousins. Elon's involvement is merely consultation, and when the company was in financial trouble, Elon led Tesla to acquire the company.

The Boring Company: Yes, this is his baby, and not a very good one. His projects to date are designed for affordability in mind and lacks required safety features and other practical needs.

Neuralink: Yes, this is his baby, but it is largely criticized as all hype, no substance -- akin to Elizabeth Holmes's Theranos.

OpenAI: Elon was an early investors ($50M) and a board member. He didn't get along with their management and other board members and was effectively kicked out 3 years later.

Premium basic lists "full ads" in the For You feed, while Premium Standard says it has "half ads" in For You. Premium Plus says there will be no ads in For You. Given the specific mention of the For You feed, it sounds like all of the tiers will continue to have ads in replies. Revenue from reply ads is used for paying content creators on the social network.

At the current time, a Premium subscription is priced at $8 per month or $84 per year, and there is no word yet on what the new tiers might be priced at. There are also no other details on the differences between the plans or launch information.

X is the beginning of the end. It’ll be renamed Y, then Z, then zzz and die in its sleep. It’ll be remembered as so-so social network XYZ 😊
