This is all true. It’s complicated. And the courts have worked hard to draw meaningful distinctions. Israel doesn’t what anti semintism and that their prerogative. But in the US I hope we err far on the side of too much speech. Antisemitism, anti white, anti black. Let everyone post their dumb “anti” because bad ideas are healed by exposure. The more these ideas see light the more often people will see them for the nonsense they are.
The real problem begins when some people decide to take physical action. Unfortunately, it’s not just people screaming into the ether. This forum, for example, is very well managed to keep things civil. X (fkaT) is the other end of the spectrum.

If they are all Premium is anything really Premium then?

I'm assuming there will still be a free plan and therefore these will be a "premium" over that. It appears they are simply adding a level above (no ads) and below (full ads) to the existing Premium plan which is “half ads” plus various other features. The only real difference may be the level of ads and corresponding subscription prices; every other Premium plan feature could remain the same.

Have been using twitter for a decade now. For me nothing has changed, just the fact that they prioritize blue checkmarks responses
Seriously I use twitter for soccer. It’s not any different. People who use it just for politics or think online politics is the whole world find twitter has changed. For 95% of people they have probably noticed no differences.

Social network X, previously known as Twitter, may soon offer more than one subscription tier. Code in the app suggests that the Premium offering could be split into three, including Premium Basic, Premium Standard, and Premium Plus.

X-twitter-logo.jpg

Premium Basic lists "full ads" in the For You feed, while Premium Standard says it has "half ads" in For You. Premium Plus says there will be no ads in For You. Given the specific mention of the For You feed, it sounds like all of the tiers will continue to have ads in replies. Revenue from reply ads is used for paying content creators on the social network.

At the current time, a Premium subscription is priced at $8 per month or $84 per year, and there is no word yet on what the new tiers might be priced at. There are also no other details on the differences between the plans or launch information.

The new tiers are XX and XXX... just wait for the XXXX!

The world is better without some social media platforms. I find X/Twitter has an absurd amount of bots, fake accounts, accounts that push narratives funded by who knows what, and lots of overall spam. Pretty sure I can live without this easily.
Indeed….just think….a world without influencers. Ahhhhhh….blessed relief 🙏

Going for those whales, it seems.

I mean a non-zero percentage of people would also drop $1000 a month to be able to DM Chairman Musk. There are so many avenues for meteoric revenue growth.

The whole
It was foretold by many in this community that X was doomed to fail and yet it is somehow still standing.
I love it. Everyone said it was DOA as soon as he bought it. People pay for subs everywhere and those that support being able to actually speak for a change on what is now X, will pay. X isn’t going anywhere.

People’s obsession with it failing is very entertaining to say the least.

how is it possible that people continue to use twitter?

Some have taken the time to aggressively mute/block anything/everything that isn't in their core interest to the point where it's still usable for how they use it?

Know a few people who took the time, unfollowing a handful of random people they'd followed over the years, then proceeded to mute/block every sports team, business, media company, drink company, etc that didn't have to do with their favorite sport/team? When an ad for some hemp gummy bull-butter or sex toy appears, blocked.. sports team retweets something from a celebrity they don't want to hear from.. blocked.. So, for how they use it, it's still fairly useful? For now at least.. They're quite proud of the news feeds they've built out of the wreckage Elmo has caused...

I'm sure others are doing similar for entertainment franchises/fandoms as well.

It sounds as if never having updated to X from the Twitter app also helps?

Siloing off from the greater social media noise, bots, ads, etc... Kinda defeating the original purpose of "social media", sure, but making the best of the dumpster fire they find themselves in.

I'm sure Elmo will find a way to sabotage them, and then they will be done with Twitter/X as well...

If you have to pay to express your opinion, what does that say about the value people put on that opinion?

You don't necessarily have to pay to express your opinion on X. The premium plans are about access to additional features like longer post length, being able to edit a post, being able to bold or italicize, being able to undo a post, color themes, custom navigation, changing the number of ads (if any) you are seeing, and so on.

Like X, MacRumors has a paid membership option too giving access to additional features like filtering front page stories, private forums, being able to delete your posts, longer time limit on editing posts, ad-free viewing, etc. but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to pay to express your opinion here either.

Twitter would be dead if the core base of journalists and tech reporters grew a spine and actually went elsewhere. Instead they moan about it but then claim they need to be on it to fulfill their desperate need for attention reach their audience.

I wouldn't still have the Twitter app on my phone if the motorsports teams I follow were anywhere else besides X or Facebook/Insta?

Of the two, I'll stick with opening Twitter once in a while, and aggressively muting/blocking the crud. But, if they'd all start podcasts and posting more on YT (or using their websites for more than storefronts for merch), the Twitter app would get deleted PDQ.

Most of the journalists, especially tech journalists, I care to read/follow have podcasts or YT feeds that I already use? Hell, I actually get to see one or two of them in person once or twice a year.

Thank you for calling it Twitter. I refuse to call it X. It's twitter - hopefully the billionaire a hole will move on to something else.

Like even people who don't use tech much know the brand name Twitter. It would be like Ford or Coca-Cola renaming to "W."

My condolences to the ones who pays for X/Twitter.
Compared to all the other crap out there, I definitely get my value paying for Twitter. I do not regret it at all. Do I wish it were NO ad instead of lower ad? Hell yes! I proudly pay and resent your "condolences". Although I may quit paying at any time. My choice.

Yeah Linda yaccarino made that claim during the absolute trainwreck interview so I wouldn’t bank on it.
they're currently cashflow positive minus servicing debt reported by Bloomberg.

I would bank on it.

considering they're private and have no obligations to release financial statements, the argument 'I don't believe x' is a pointless argument that results to nothing.
