If you view ads, then you ARE paying, whether you like it or not.
You got it wrong. People who view ads are NOT paying anything. The advertisers are paying.

Pretty sure not a single penny leaves my pocket because of ads.

As I drive down the freeway and look at a billboard, am I paying just by looking at that billboard?

There is nothing premium about X… I think we can forget this one. Anytime I see a link to X I just ignore it.

Time to raise prices on oversized boxes packed with AA batteries (previously known as Tesla)

The world is better without some social media platforms. I find X/Twitter has an absurd amount of bots, fake accounts, accounts that push narratives funded by who knows what, and lots of overall spam. Pretty sure I can live without this easily.

Twitter would be dead if the core base of journalists and tech reporters grew a spine and actually went elsewhere. Instead they moan about it but then claim they need to be on it to fulfill their desperate need for attention reach their audience.

Actually, you could in a sense be being "paid" to view ads. If a service costs $9/month without ads and $5/month with ads, the person going with the cheaper ads plan is being "paid" $4/month (via the subscription “discount”) to view ads.

Except you are being "paid" in "value", not cash. If the site becomes of less value to you then your payment goes down.

Wait until they do 1/4 and 3/4 ads

Premium Basic = Full ads
Premium Basic Plus = 3/4 ads
Premium Standard = Half ads
Premium Standard Plus = 1/4 ads
Premium Plus = No ads

And 🤣 at calling the full ads experience "Premium"
That sounds like an airline boarding scheme... Now boarding Premium Basic Plus passengers... Now boarding Premium Basic passengers who need assistance....

SpaceX: Yes, this is his baby. I hope you are comfortable with Elon cluttering the Earth's orbit (over 50% of the satellites are his) and for having the power to influence the outcome of Ukraine invasion.

Tesla: Contrary to popular opinion, Elon isn't responsible for starting Tesla, but he was an early investor and board member, and largely responsible for getting over $100B in venture capital fundings. But the technology and vision behind Tesla are largely the works of other Tesla employees and management.

SolarCity: This is a company found by Elon's cousins. Elon's involvement is merely consultation, and when the company was in financial trouble, Elon led Tesla to acquire the company.

The Boring Company: Yes, this is his baby, and not a very good one. His projects to date are designed for affordability in mind and lacks required safety features and other practical needs.

Neuralink: Yes, this is his baby, but it is largely criticized as all hype, no substance -- akin to Elizabeth Holmes's Theranos.

OpenAI: Elon was an early investors ($50M) and a board member. He didn't get along with their management and other board members and was effectively kicked out 3 years later.
The person you replied to didn’t say Elon started all those companies. He didn’t invent all the tech either. They said he knows business and that appears true. X might be first truly great failure.

is only dead until other social media platforms start doing it as well. Youtube was free at some point and look where we are now
YouTube is still free at the point of use. There are premium options but crucially they ADD value. So far there is nothing in Twitter/X Blue/Premium that adds enough value to be worth subscribing to. On the contrary, the changes to the algorithm boosting "reply guys" to the top of popular Tweets/Posts have actually made the website even less appealing than it was before.
