Never happened but it'd be nice. I wanted to pay Twitter 10 years ago for their service so long as it was ad-free and supported a better quality of service but it's been proven that social networks fail when they charge for it.
That “could” work. If they went after the angle of creators and influencers and let the subscription paywall out the riffraff they could rival Patreon or Pinterest. More content based (webcomics, how-tos, inspirational quotes, etc) rather than relying on social media battles to drive clicks and show ads.

Clearly there should be a select group of better educated and discerning people who should decide what they can see for them. In the words of The Operative, it would be “a better world, a world without sin”.
They should also “follow the rules of magic without exception”.

I wonder how that'd affect 3rd party Twitter clients... I've already "paid" for Twitter by using Tweetbot, and it's been great. Granted, the notifications have gotten worse due to Twitter's crackdown on that sort of thing, but the app is still miles better and a much more pleasant experience than the "Sponsored" cesspool that is the free app.

Ok, so I have been reading the Athletic since MR posted it the other day, and I can say that I love the gated community of a social network. Articles of my favorite teams are not filled with TEAM XXX @#$%!!1! comments. I can message the authors if I have questions. I would pay for twitter where I can communicate with only paid twitter users and have closer access to companies and selected celebrities.

True to an extent but the world has become so toxic that even people I once followed for music etc post “trump evil” stuff now. I’m not even a Trump voter but I’m sick of hearing it all. Unfollow anyone that posts crap
It’s why abandoned arstechnica, I wanted to read about tech, not social and political commentary, and the comments where you must follow the group think. Blurgh

Honestly there’s potential for them to become a better attempt as a subscription News source than Apple’s. I can see this working really well, but only if they address the crisis of “fake news” on social media platforms.

People have been sending me Happy Birthday in my Facebook, and it has been 3 years in a row they have been doing it under the same post. If that is how much I use FB, I use Twitter 10 time less.

I think twiter should evolve their interface probably. I do not actually care.

At the end of the day just like this forum.

it costs money to run a site/company.

with that in mind I’m not surprised

The best thing Twitter could do is Close Down, that app is a cesspool. I can't believe that something like 70% of the population actually get their news from it.

There’s only like 70 million twitter users in the US, so if every single user used it as it’s primary news source that would be 21%.

Thankfully it’s much less then that.

Or it’s ok, make it so that twitting actually has a (hopefully elevated) cost.
Imagine seeing all the angry mobs, cancel culturists, raging “it’s never my fault, it’s the others” comments... and be able to realize “damn, they even paid to be able to shout and scream this garbage”.
Today I saw a golden one, along the lines of: “if you follow PragerU, then I don’t have any respect for you”, as if for the said follower (independently of whether PragerU is your cup of tea or not), one of the most important things and goals in life is to have the “respect” of this other random stranger... would be curious to see how much people are willing to pay to be able to bully out comments like these.

I disagree. It depends how people using it.

As digital artist, Twitter is great tool to gain fans base, my DM contains many commissions request and used for inform PayPal invoice too. I eschewed all Facebook products (Instagram WhatsApp) so without one of these major social platform that was hurdle for gaining engagement. At least twitter is less suck.

Sadly many SJW ruining Twitter, closing it down it would kill creative people who rely Twitter for making money.
Just avoid toxic account, hoax and stupid trending or change region altogether if needed. I don't give a damn for following what's going viral because it was unproductive.
