Companies are cutting back adverting spend because consumers have but back spend. soooooo consumers have money for Twitter? oh-boy

As with everything, let's see what they come up with and how that affects all the different parties involved (third-party developers, content producers, users, toxic trash).

Do I see a possible future where I might pay a subscription for Twitter? Yes, but not for what Twitter currently offers me. The closest equivalent I can think of is something like Feedbin, Feedly or NewsBlur - they offer a type of service that's subscription-valuable to me. Twitter would have to do something similarly valuable to get my interest.

I love twitter. A subscription model only makes sense if it is offered alongside a non subscription model with ads. I think that could work. But a subscription only model will kill twitter.

At first I was thinking, oh they'll be offering a ad-free option - which I'd consider good, but then was looking at this quote:

" We want to make sure any new line of revenue is complementary to our advertising business "

Which sounds to me like, we keep advertising and then you pay us on top of that. Good luck.

Not, that’s not what that means.

They’re saying that the new line of revenue needs to come close to matching what they currently get in advertising dollars per user.

Complementary = Resembling

Let's see. If even half of Twitter's 300+ million users (assuming half are bots) paid $5 a month for the service (ad-free) that would come up to $9 Billion in revenue. Not too shabby.

Hello,

I’m Jack Dorsey, not only do we allow the scum of the Earth to post and share constant ads you don’t want to see with a large bit of selling your personal information to the highest bidders but now you get to pay me for it.

Twitter is even worse than Facebook. At least Faceboo has the redeeming value of keeping distant family members together and exchanging photographs. What does Twitter offer? Russian hackers?

It is surprising that shortly after Twitter engages in selected censorship, they plan to to test a subscription model. Just seems like that worst possible way to go about things.

True to an extent but the world has become so toxic that even people I once followed for music etc post “trump evil” stuff now. I’m not even a Trump voter but I’m sick of hearing it all. Unfollow anyone that posts crap
That’s what mute filters are for

There is many ways they can make money off Twitter:
1:Subscription for ad less and tracking less account ($20/yr)
2: Fix that horrid app, make that guy who makes Apollo for Reddit create the official Twitter app or use the Tweetbot guys
3: Pay for verified accounts
4: make money on purchases made via twitter ads
5: kill spam and fake accounts.
6: decrease ad size, this big block of ad is not pleasant

The best thing Twitter could do is Close Down, that app is a cesspool. I can't believe that something like 70% of the population actually get their news from it.

You choose who to read news from like you choose to read from MacRumors here

You know its a cesspool even if you don't have an account, because you constantly see evidence of this moron or that moron tweeted a moronic thing.

It's in print media, tv media, online media, etc... Twitter has become a de-facto venue for fake news, or unverified news, and just people's stupid opinions.

This is what you get with freedom of speech, everyone is free to say what they want. It could be said for any other place people can express their opinions like TV, Radio, Reddit, and MacRumors.

Why on earth is that surprising? Follow the right accounts and you get accurate/truthful information.

I’ve been on Twitter since 2008 and have been using it consistently since. There’s a lot of bad stuff on every platform.

You have to be able to weed out the false info and have a nicely curated timeline. Twitter Search is actually awesome. I would definitely subscribe to use it. If you hate it then you’re not using it correctly.

You must not know how to use it or what makes it useful. Twitter isn’t just outrage and Trump tweets.
Never used it. Never plan on it
