It’s like he’s actively doing every single terrible thing possible to the app instead of doing anything everyone wants.
Trends are completely ruined, it’s all old trends all day & night, like how weekend trends work.
Clicking not interested still doesn’t work, since its inception.
No customization options.
More ads.
Pay for less ads, still ads.
More hate speech.
A trillion more bots.

What was already a hell site, is now an even worse hell site.

Why is it so difficult to do good things.

The main thing I’ve always wanted is to be able to click a trending topic and immediately see why that topic is trending.
Not 10 posts about Elon changing the heart icon to a Tesla logo.
Or 5 Denzel gifs.
And 400 bot comments.
Only to never find out why that topic is trending.
Theres only like 100 trending topics a day. Just manually hire someone to do that.

I keep getting Elon Musk and fellow assclowns (I got Trump Jr for example) in my notifications.

Do I follow Elon? No.
Am I interested in Elon? No.
Do I use Twitter? No (I have an account, but I just go there for friends circle)

Honestly the only thing Twitter is good for is breaking/real-time news. I follow live sports on Twitter. Often times news breaks on Twitter before anywhere else. Musk should focus on the good aspects of Twitter and what it succeeds at that others don‘t (no one is going to FB, Instagram or Reddit for breaking news).
Yeah, breaking news and getting multiple perspectives into a single event in a very short amount of time.

Having even the single best expert in the world can't compete with 10 experts in that field all discussing it from their unique perspectives in real time.

That, to me, is Twitter's core value proposition.

and advertising is down. Low ad buys + high user usage = more financial problems. The fact that advertisers arent as interested in being associated with that content from those users should also tell you something about the changing content on twitter.

It depends on which advertising - the COVID advertising is gone, which is about time. The other advertising, like Apple, is back on Twitter. So?

I am CONSTANTLY being asked by the algorithm to follow Musk now. I would say every two or three times I check the site (on the browser) he's there, as needy as an ex driving by my house to see whose car is parked there, begging for attention.

I don't mention him on Twitter, I don't RT news stories about him. He's just... there. Creepy.

Unprofitable for years BEFORE Musk, advertisers pulling out more and more (major and minor ad agencies are pausing multi-million dollar ad buys), increased users, class action lawsuits, and a skeleton crew to run it all?

Not good. It hasn't collapsed or died, but it sure ain't healthy! ;)

Musk thought twitter's problem was that it was run by "woke leftists." He never stopped to consider was run by people who were trying to make it profitable (regardless of politics). Now we get to watch him roll back policies only to find out why they were there in the first place. Having Musk in charge is like watching twitter have a stroke and learning to walk all over again.

Plus we get to see this dude walk directly into class action lawsuits as he breaks labor laws in CA and Ireland over mass firings.

Facebook and Instagram? Different debate. Lots of stuff to unpack there! Out of all of these, perhaps youtube is doing the best, but who knows...

Hmmm, I thought I tried to avoid sounding like I had all the answers and we were just having a discussion about something in which neither of us have a full picture, but I suppose we can use your reply on your own post:

Twitter isn't dead. Far from it. It's exploding with more users. It's becoming more exciting! Facebook, Instagram and YouTube are dead.

I’m getting the sense that Elon has been pushed out of day-to-day exec stuff from his other companies and that’s why he picked up Twitter

It was the core value prop

He's created an exodus of enough scale that any value is diminishing rapidly

It’s too soon to draw conclusion.

Some really smart devs (possibly ones who used to work at Twitter) should create a new one with the things people want instead of what Musk is doing. Of course, there's also Mastodon.

I think the lesson we are learning is that it's time to build out some social stuff, like Mastodon, that's federated and not controlled from one central point.

It’s OK to have a central point if the company and the board and the main investors are responsible for the health of their users and platform Twitter should have collapsed long ago. They have been in trouble many times over privacy and data violations and the previous CEO was and still is a deeply unhinged and troubled person. That’s why he wanted someone even more unhinged to take over.

These are not healthy individuals. They are parasites. Transforming Twitter into Birdchan suits their agendas and they entrust Musk to do it.

Great. The racists, xenophobes, sexists, misogynists, transphobes, insurrectionist jerks can spout their hate in longer tweets. How is that going to make Twitter better?
