Haven’t seen that, maybe you hang out in the wrong circles? It is a public square after all.
Musk spent Labor Day weekend engaging with a campaign to cancel the ADL, and the threads were incredibly toxic. He’s also tweeted dog whistles about George Soros. Also, blaming the ADL for antisemitism is a very old trick used to blame minorities for their own persecution. Tolerant societies do not need to accommodate fascists and racists. Twitter is a corporation, not a public square.

As to your advertising argument, it fails since advertisers have been fleeing the platform in droves and continue to do so.

According to MediaRadar data, advertisers from approximately 10,200 companies (an increase of 13% versus year ago) spent over $774 million on Twitter between January 2023 and May 2023. The biggest advertisers (spending over $5 million each during that five month period) were Amazon, Apple, Buzzery, Comcast, Disney, HP, IBM, Monday.com, The Motley Fool, and Warner Bros. Discovery. All but Comcast and Disney increased their ad spend on Twitter by 46% to over 1,000% versus same period a year ago.

While social media overall is starting to see a decline in advertising, that includes Meta and others.

No link?

Sorry, but the Musk apologetics are not effective. TwitterX is a dying platform that has been egregiously mismanaged and has become by far the most toxic platform out there.

So let’s not pretend that it’s smooth sailing. It isn’t and my point stands: Apple degrades their brand by continuing to appear on TwitterX and effectively legitimizes TwitterX in the process. It’s a bad bargain for Apple and they should sever their relationship with TwitterX.

I'm not "apologizing" for Musk and have been critical of Musk/Tesla/Twitter/X several times on this forum. I was commenting that Twitter/X is not the only social media platform that has had and still has a lot of issues when it comes to allowing or monitoring inappropriate content. Therefore, if Apple and/or other companies were to leave Tiwtter/X over content concerns they should seriously consider doing the same with other platforms. To single out Twitter/X or any other mainstream social media platform as being the issue is failing to recognize the breadth of the situation. The problem exists on multiple platforms but many many companies including Apple feel it is still worth having a presence on, spending money on, etc the various platforms including Twitter/X.

TwitterX is different under Musk. It’s “singled out” due to his management, which has increased the amount of racist and white nationalist content on the site.

All of this can depend on who you ask (just two of many examples from "both sides" linked below) and that speaks to the problem with the news media, talk radio, social media, etc. in general. Like so many things, it can be tied to political or other biases but since this is not the "Political News" section, I won’t go into it any further.

Bottom line is that Apple and many other companies continue to do business with Twitter/X and other social media as they seem to feel the negatives associated with the platforms (and all of them have negatives) are not serious enough to outweigh the benefits. If people have an issue with that, they should contact the companies about their concerns. If they really really have an issue with that, they should stop buying the companies' products.

Two opinion pieces.

Obviously people who AGREE with the heinous content that TwitterX promotes now aren’t going to have a problem with it. But as we’ve discussed many times, there are some viewpoints that simply are not welcome in polite society. TwitterX is increasingly rife with such content and advertisers whose products appear along side it are likely to be associated with it.

Apple should sever their ties with TwitterX. Maintaining a presence there degrades Apple’s brand and lends unearned legitimacy to TwitterX.

I think it enhances it, I see the apple ads passively as I scroll and are informed and reminded about their products in a passive way.

Everywhere else my adblocks kills all ads, and my YouTube red sub removes ads on there and I don’t watch basic tv. Only 3rd part platform apple can reach me on is Twitter, and they know it.

Apple ads do not “enhance” TwitterX and that’s a weird thing to say. It doesn’t enhance, it legitimizes and that’s a very different thing.

As far as seeing Apple’s ads, you do realize that you can go to Apple.com and see all the Apple advertisement your heart desires, right? Also, here you are on MacRumors. This is a vastly better place to get informed about Apple than Musk’s TwitterX disaster.

All my favourite tech people and publications are on Twitter and I get aggregated info and ability to interact on all my interests in a streamlined and effective way. Why would you think the only interest is Apple? There’s more to tech and life in general out there.

Sorry to say this, but it seems you’re deep down some kind of ideological hell hole of your own making. Do something about it, or don’t - you’re life.

Plus all the racist content you can stomach!

Your blue sky, optimistic view of the current TwitterX is simply not justified by the real world experience of the app.

No, that isn’t accurate. That content is pushed on users whether they want it or not.
I’m a user and I don’t see Nazi or equivalent content. So I’m not sure how you reached that assessment. And I follow political hotheads like Cenk Uygur and Ben Shapiro - I appreciate the irony of opposites, but I don’t side 100% on all things - how can any reasonable person.

So it seems to me you may be parroting talking points programmed into your psyche. Hope your getting paid a good soldiers wage, or slap yourself out of it.
