The only way they would have inside info would be through corporate espionage. Apple certainly isn't giving them anything. They are only basing these representations (that's all they are at this point) on the supposed design documents that were allegedly leaked last month (when they were leaked, you may remember that MR posted a rendering of the possible appearance of the iPhone 5). I'm sure they have done a few test runs based on those documents, and are geared up to go if those specifications prove to be bona fide, but I'm sure they have not already stockpiled thousands of these cases, ready to be shipped the moment Apple finally unveils the new iPhone. It's still just speculation. Expensive, high-stakes speculation, to be sure, but for them it's a gamble worth taking if they can corner the market on iPhone cases for the first month or so.

You have no idea where Case-Mate is getting their info. To suggest they are basing anything off those rendered drawings is hilarious.

Case-Mate already knows the dimensions of the next iPhone. The cases they leaked are going to fit the next iPhone. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong, but I'm not.

Well, I may not know, but I'm sure Apple would like to! There's no way that CaseMate can know without (unauthorized) insider information.

Edit: I hope you're not wrong, but I am doubtful about an "iPhone 5" being available at this time. Now it is still possible that we could see it by the end of November (or more realistically in January), but something more along the lines of a spec bumped iPhone 4 is more likely for next month.

Casemate wouldn't make and spend alot of money on those cases unless they knew for certain the size of the iphone 5.

That is a big, and most likely incorrect assumption on your part. I'm positive you are not intimately familiar with how Apple deals with their vendors. It's very possible, in fact, probable that preferred vendors have already received dimensions. Most likely in the form of that leaked design document.

I hope that it comes out soon! I can't wait! I hope that it comes out in late September or October because I am not waiting for too much longer

Is this the notoriously secretive Apple we're talking about? Any knowledge shared with an outside source is much more likely to be compromised. Heck, even most Apple employees have no idea what is coming in the next few weeks.

In any case, if Apple were found to deal preferentially with one accessory vendor, then a lot of other vendors would be very pissed off, and it could be very costly to the company in terms of third party support.

Of course, it could be argued that this is all part of an Apple conspiracy to increase the hype even further prior to the coming event. Given that it's already at a fever pitch, however, I can only see it leading to greater disappointment. I prefer to keep my expectations a bit lower so I can evaluate Apple's offerings based on what they are, not on what I expected them to be.

Not true at all. Preferential treatment of vendors is a fact in the business world, it happens all the time. And the vendors just suck it up because they'd rather sell Apple accessories than not be a vendor at all.

And if Apple is to have some cases at launch, they will share the specs with a vendor somewhere.

Could be production problems due to ditching Samsung. There will be blood.

As far as we know ditching Samsung will not happen with this upcoming generation of iPhone. Samsung still makes the A5 chip and supplies other components. If there is a manufacturing problem it is related to Foxconn, et al.

I think we're seeing apple take a very different tack with this release. The "normal" cycle has been thrown out of the window, so has releasing at a Mac show, etc. I think the need of the buyers for all things iphone has gone crazy and apple is trying to put the brakes on a bit. To be honest the "new phone every june" thing was not something they could keep up, especially in the numbers they need nowadays.

This is true since some case manufacturers, like with previous iPhone launches, have cases readily available for purchase at launch time so that means they had to have gotten the specs before the release.

Why did they call both the 2G and 3G Iphones 3G?

The first iPhone was just called iPhone. It goes like this:

iPhone-First Gen
iPhone 3G-Second Gen
iPhone 3GS-Third Gen
iPhone 4-Fourth Gen

Articles referred to it as "iPhone 2G" to make a distinction between the original iPhone and iPhone 3G. 2G is referring to the EDGE network.

So it's even worse than I said, the "Iphone 1G" is really the "Iphone 2G"?

But that does help explain why the 2G and 3G were both called 3G.

Because they weren't.

The second gen was called 3G
The third gen was called 3GS.

The "S" might not mean much, but it isn't the same name.

I can't see Apple only releasing the 4S this Fall, and then releasing the iPhone 5/6 in 2012. If everyone uses their upgrade for the iPhone 4S, there will be a lot less people upgrading to the 5 or 6 when it comes out only a few months later, and people will be pissed. The only way I can see it happening is if they wait another year to release the newly designed iPhone, and I can't see that happening either with the competition from Android, etc constantly growing.

The only thing I don't get is how there have been no leaked photos of the newly-designed iPhone. That worries me. Unless Apple has learned from their mistakes in the past and has kept it super-secret this time around.

iCloud backup data to be removed/reset on the 22nd Sept. After this reset, you will be unable to restore from any backup created prior to September 22.

That's nice, that Apple can decide to delete all of your Icloud backups whenever they want.

That should sell a lot of USB 3.0 hard drives!

Please, do I need to put a <sarcasm> tag on every line?

Apple's "minimalist" designs have become simply boring (the laptop styling has been basically unchanged for over 10 years), and their "minimalist" product names have become completely detached from reality and usefulness.

(Quick - what's the difference between the "late 2011 Imac" and the "mid 2011 Imac" - other than the fact that the "mid 2011 Imac" is newer than the "late 2011 Imac"?)

Not sure I get the sarcasm part, but whatever.

Also I don't know the difference between the mid 2011 iMac and the late 2011 iMac, because there isn't a late 2011 iMac.

But I would assume it would Ivy Bridge.

The sarcasm is simply that Apple reuses the same name for different models, sometimes (but not always) with slight modifier changes.

With the Iphone, it's doubly confusing because you have gen1, gen2, gen3... of the Iphone, and the radios have gen1, gen2, gen3,... of the radio support.

The 4th generation Iphone (and from the rumours the 5th generation as well) does not support the 4th generation radios.

Perhaps you should ask Apple:
