Two Questions on the AT&T iPhone Trade-in

I also was able to get a $200 AT&T card for my iphone 4 after having pre-ordered my 6+ from Apple. However, the first AT&T store I went to would not give me the $200, saying my 6+ purchase needed to be through AT&T.

I went to another AT&T store and they accepted my iphone 4, giving me the $200 card. The rep who helped me did access my account, so I'm not sure if my renewing of AT&T service qualified me for the promotional trade-in value.
 
Has anyone actually seen any advertising on this promotion, bc I have an old iPhone 4 laying around and i would like to go get a $200 bill credit for this as I just upgraded to the 6+ on launch day

I believe the deal calls for the phones to be in "good and fully functional condition." When I traded in my iPhone 4, the rep looked it over quickly (no damage or scratches) and spent a few minutes going through the phone's functions to make sure it worked.

If you have any phones that are functional but damaged, try taking them in, to see what you'll get. Be aware, however, that there is a limit on the number of phones you can trade in each year. (My AT&T rep mentioned that the limit is five...)

I haven't done it, but I'd try it. Before I traded in my iPhone 4, I had an iPhone 5 with the iPhone 4 as the household backup/foreign travel phone. If I'd been able to upgrade at the time, I could have traded in both for a $400 Promotion Card.

If you have 3-4-5-6 etc iphones it doesn't matter. A 4 to 5 & 5c will be $200... a 5s will be $300... no limits, or purchasing requirements.
 
Does anyone know if there's a cap on how many you can trade in? Thinking of hitting craigslist for some cheap 4s to maybe get a freeish 128gb 6

Yes they take phones from other carriers. I traded in my sprint iphone 4 today. They told me I could use the 200 to buy the 6 but can't use it for preorder. It means I have to wait until att is fully stocked with iphone 6 then I can use the 200 to buy it. You can use that 200 to buy anything at the store.
 
I traded in my iPhone 4 for $200..no questions asked and no upgrade required. My upgrade isn't due until November so I will hold on to the card until then and then hopefully use it towards the new phone.
 
So according to the link above you have to either get a new phone with the NEXT plan or get a non-contract phone. Has anyone run into that?

That's what it says but it really depends which store you go. Many att reps are not sure about this plan and they would let you do anything. I went to a store and the manager told me I must use the 200 right away at the store, either buying a phone or accessories.

That seems to be so true. I haven't actually gone to a store yet, as none anywhere near me had any 6 in stock, but I called 3 stores and got 3 totally different answers on how the promo works. It's truly YMMV.

So I got my phone from the Apple Store and will go tomorrow to do the trade-in and hope it works out. There are a few AT&T stores around me so it should work out I just hope its not too much hit and miss.

Yes. As I posted before, on Wednesday 9/17 I traded in an iPhone 4 for $200 card, then on Friday i came back and traded in my 5S, gave them the $200 card, and paid $150 plus tax for a new iPhone 6 off contract.
 
At a corporate store now, manager says I can only get a "paper" card that's not even eligible to pay my ATT bill. Very frustrating discussion.

Yea you have to try different stores. one att rep told me you can use the card for att bill but most reps won't tell you that and want you to buy phones and accessories.

Thanks. Went to another store, left with $400 bill credit (2x 8gb iPhone 4), no hassle.
 
I had a really nice employee just take a look at my phone, got the info and gave me the card. No hassle, no questions and didn't have to buy anything. Used the $200 towards the bill right then and there. Very happy!

I was given a $200 "promotional AT&T card" without the Visa logo on it was was able to apply it against my AT&T wireless bill.....no issues
