Maybe that’s the real reason? Ad funded = no money for Apple. Block Ads, make Apple look good and a move to paid for services allows Apple to take its cut?
It seems a good move for Apple, no question about that. More app revenue, and it's great marketing fodder for selling iPhones. The majority has voted and they care about privacy.

Have said it before, will say it again, 100% FREE Ad-based apps will soon go the way of the DoDo bird !

I predict the number of apps in the iOS App Store will be 1/3 of what it is today, in just 1-2 years.

And, that this "may" come back to bite Apple's iPhone Unit Sales, as some % of End Users rely-upon such apps, yet will probably Opt-Out anyway (NOT thinking about the long-term consequences).

Some BIG companies are already moving their Ad dollars away from mobile.

The trend will continue.

It will have a drastic affect.

How things play out is really anybody's guess.

Can’t we disable IDFA tracking completely on iOS 14.4 already? It’s just 14.5 forces the prompt per-app.

Ads is one thing, tracking without consent another... but agree, time will tell and something else will come up, the ad I dusted will be creative...

I'm finding more and more websites will not load unless I turn off my ad/cookie blockers. I usually pass on the website. I'm getting tire of this, "Your Money Or Your Life" which is more like Your Money and and YOUR life web sites are demanding!
Turning off Javascript helps in those measures sometimes.

With the US's current rabid, woke society, I opt out of anything I can. Shut down every social media account and certainly won't be allowing any company, corporation, app, or anything else track me for anything. Hell, I've gotten in the habit lately of turning off location services and putting my iPhone in airplane mode anytime I leave my house.
Question, do you use a credit card? If so you better get rid of that ASAP if you truly want to not be tracked.

Pi.hole blocks everything without Apple’s involvement.
Yes, but only when you are on the network that uses Pihole as its DNS proxy (unless you always have a VPN back to that network). I do use Pihole at home, but that doesn't help when I'm out.

Admittedly it would be much less accurate than following someone around the internet, but couldn’t they just target the ads based on what the website/app is? Like if it’s an NBA app then show ads that the typical demographic of NBA consumers would like to see? Or if it’s an REI website then show ads for camping gear or hiking locations?

That to me seems like the best of both worlds. The ad agencies still get clicks, and from what I understand can still “track” (as long as it’s through Apple’s anonymous method) the ad to see how effective it is.
