You will probably be surprised to know that that particular iBook line was very popular. It helped Apple regain credibility and revenue. In the late 90's, those things were much more stylish than the beige black POS's that were PCs. This style was also mimiced in one way or another by nearly every computer company.

just because it was popular, doesn't make it good design.

i thought they were ugly back then, they look even more ridiculous today.

tuesday???

I've never followed an Apple release as closely as this one....I just sold my old MacBook on eBay this weekend....how likely is it that the new MacBooks will be available to purchase this tuesday??
Or are they more likely to just introduce the new ones and specify a later release date??
Just looking for some info from somebody who has followed some other Apple computer releases...
THANKS.

from what i've read anywhere, it usually takes a few days for the new models to show up in stores after they are announced.

i hope someone will correct me on that. i would love to be able to sell my mbp and buy the new one.

Sometimes new products are available the same day of announcement, sometimes it is several weeks. If I remember correctly, the 2nd generation iBook was announced and became available 6 weeks later.:mad:

No one really knows, we will have to wait til the 14th

I cant believe this made the front page, its so clearly an air, the air bottom is sitting next to it.

I think a two-tone Macbook would look extremely tacky.

If Apple are supposedly realizing significant savings in the long-run with the rumored new "brick" process of manufacturing, it makes absolutely no sense to add plastic elements onto that production line. I would think that adding plastics would not only raise costs, complicate manufacturing, but would also result in further hate mail to Cupertino by Greenpeace.

Also, Steve has always liked the idea of homogeneous design. By moving all notebooks to aluminum, the entire computer line is tied in and shares the similar Apple "look and feel".

According to my Apple Premium Reseller, they expect the new MacBooks to be available right away. Since they have some experience with this, I'll trust them. But it really wouldn't matter to me, if they are not available on tuesday. Getting more information and finally some real videos and pictures is more important to me, in the first place. I can watch hours to that special apple.com sites and the keynote. :0)

Here is a link to the image I found on Amazon...This really isn't anything new I suppose, since we already know what it looks like, but look at the bezelling!

Link-->http://www.amazon.com/MacBook-Trans..._16?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1223765406&sr=8-16

The item is a cover for the Macbook Pro, but that isn't the old MBP.

And this gives a hint that the new MacBook Pros and maybe MacBooks will be 16:9 ratio:

First link means "air".

Second link means "16:10". Think about it, people have already reviewed it and no-one said "it doesn't fit the screen properly" ;)

Nothing to see here. :(

What is your opinion on the 16:9 vs 16:10 debate?
And where does 4:3 ratio fit in this debate? ;)

Human eyes see things better in widescreen. Looking at my 17" 16:10 iMac, there is room for another one next to it, with very little movement from me to see it. That said, I don't like losing too much vertical space either.

I'd say...
For displays < 24" (or there abouts), 16:10 is nice
For displays ≥ 24", 16:9 would probably be better in an ergonomic sense, and you still have plenty of vertical real estate.

I think all laptops should stay with 16:10. Both because of the vertical issue (but this depends on resolution, and the 15.4" may go to 16.1" in 16:9 to reduce the loss). The other reason is the greater choice of monitors in 16:10 at the moment. For example, I'd like a monitor with DVI for my mac and HDMI for PS3 that throughputs HDMI audio to its internal speakers (or sound output) AND has a 4 port USB hub. The only monitor I've seen with that is the Dell SP2208WFP, which is 16:10. That space would be wasted if both my mac and PS3 are 16:9, yet I haven't seen a 16:9 version of this monitor. (But I'd be lying if I said I'd extensively looked. :D)

As for 4:3, that's long gone. Too rectangular. While you could argue that it's suitable for any screen less than 12 inches, it's just not a widespread ratio anymore. 0% chance that the new laptops are 4:3.

I was in Best Buy yesterday and seriously, the computers that have 16:9 look so much nicer and sexier:D
I hope the Macbooks will be 16:9

I think 16:9 ratio looks more "natural" to the human eye than 16:10 ratio.
Just my opinion.

That's what I'm saying, but it's not like you hold a small screen straight to your eyes. You can definitely see 16:10, hence why I said for smaller screens 16:10 is nice, but 16:9 for larger ones.

If that's what the MB's are doing, than I hope it like it too. I haven't seen them in person, so maybe (hopefully) I'll like it if that's the case.

"Never judge 16:9 ratio until you have used it".
That should be a new rule and stickied as well. ;)

As long as the "9" is 1050 or better, I don't care what the "16" is.

But please, don't give me an 800 pixel height "short screen" and try to convince me that it's progress.

Short-screen sucks.
