Black Aluminum MacBook?

Has it occurred to anyone that they could, conceivably, release an aluminum MacBook in black? I mean, they have a Nano which is made of Black aluminum, right?

I was seven at the time, and those machines were the reason i got into computing and technology.

Iconic for me, the finest Apple ever made. Nice to see some fun and colour in the tech department too.
I loved those original iMacs and iBooks. They are the reason I switched to Apple nearly 10 years ago.

I still don't understand what the point is for making mockups and trying to tell people that they're the real deal. What's the gain? You may like to do a mockup for fun and posting it as what it is: a mockup, but trying to fool people...? What for? I'm confused.

If I was cynical I'd suggest that producing a mockup which generates buzz and therefore traffic to a site would increase the number of hits on a page and as a result increase the ad-revenue for that site.

If I was cynical...

Some people get jollies out of screwing with consumers of rumors. As is evident, the mockups get big reactions here. Not from me though. I've never been one to take any stock in mockups or possible leaked photos. Simply not my thing. Some people get down right aroused by mockups.

quad core macbooks? under $1000?
Well Intel is releasing a $348 quad-core 2.0 GHz CPU in Q1 2009, so it's not completely impossible. But I'd say it's most likely 45 W, so it's a no go.

Perhaps it will be two toned but not black like everyone is thinking?

Maybe apple is looking to the past for inspiration? Aluminum middle and border around the screen with a white plastic lid and bottom?
Yeah, that seems about right, although I'd say black plastic.

Are you too young to remember the toxic plastic phase of Apple Design?

But I liked those Macs!

…well back then I did. :p

(I still do)

I remember when those macs debuted. I thought they were the most beautiful computers I had ever seen. I searched them in my AOL 4.0 browser, looking for an inexpensive one, not that I was old enough to realize that I could never afford one. I see them now and think that I would never buy something as gaudy as that. It just shows how Apple's take on the aestheic evolution of computers influences our own. The ThinkPad hasn't truly ever had a redesign, and now because of Apple's beautiful computers, it looks like a leper. We recognize that so much more can be done with the aesthetics of compters. Apple is the pinnacle of computer fashion.

If this were real, then the thinness of the new MacBook would take away the exclusivity of the MacBook Air.

Based on the that observation alone, I say that it's not true.

Does anybody else find it interesting that…

The leaked MacBook Pro case pictures have been "verified" by AppleInsider as real (1, 2), but none of the MacBook case pictures have been?

The two things I'm mostly interested in knowing right now is:

1) will Blu-ray be an option (or meven better, included in the MBP)?
2) will the models have the ugly fat bezel like shown in the video?

Fortunately, we should know by late next week.

The whole purpose of the iBook and PowerBook was to have two different machines to appeal to two different audiences. If the new MacBook becomes aluminum and there is no huge difference on the machine specs then it's not a different machine.

Apple should try to introduce some low-end portables like the iBook and MacBook have been at even lower costs. Then potentially bring back a high-end lightweight portable like the 12" powerbook use to be.

I've never really appreciated the differential between the MB and the MBP. If Apple had both 13" and 15" MBs (I am assuming a 17" MB doesn't work in plastic) and also had 13", 15", and 17" MBPs, then maybe the branding difference would make sense to me - plastic vs. aluminum and different internal specs. But the way Apple currently has the MBs/MBPs configured, it's primarily the size that matters. The MB is merely a 13" MBP (with a plastic case and weaker specs). Me - I want a 13" aluminum, spec'd-out MBP, but I've got nowhere to go . . . until Tuesday, I hope! ;)

Oh yuck... is that what they referred to a the clamshell??? It looks like a kid's toy, rather than a computer.

*Edit - Goood Grief, I just googled ibook clamshell, what an ugly looking toy. this does not even look like a real computer, more like something a 5 year old would play with. These had to be while Steve Jobs was gone from apple..

Ugh! These are awful! I don't know what their interal specs might have been but they certainly don't shout "I'm a business computing system!":D

Well, let me qualify my disgust. I think these designs are/were awful for a company (Apple) wanting to continue its progress into the mainstream business market. On the other hand, colorful descendents of these models would still have a place with individual consumers and design, video, and art focused businesses. Frankly, I'd love to walk into an Apple store that actually had a table full of colorful Mac notebooks on it - right in front of the 13", 15", and 17" aluminum MacBooks and the 12" MacBook Airs.

Duh. The iBooks were targeted to consumers not lame ass business.

By the way, that photo doesn't do justice for that iBook. Those things rocked!

Apple won't release a tablet yet.

Most likely if a tablet is in the works it will be released next year after the WWDC.

Apple would need to release a new sdk to developers so that they could start building apps unique to the touch environment. The iphone touch sdk just doesn't provide the tools that would be necessary for a larger tablet.

Apple might release a tablet at WWDC with an assortment of Apple apps to bridge the gap of no 3rd party applications. This way they could demo the tablet and simultaneously release a new expanded touch sdk to developers.

Regardless it is still too early for an Apple tablet.

Agreed. No tablet yet. First MacBooks/MacBook Pros (on Tuesday), then Apple TV/Mini (in November), then maybe a tablet next year.

the computer in that video has a huge (excessively wide) bezel, y'think? it looks unnatural.

I agree. Although I haven't done any measurements, my very first impression was that the bezel in the video was so wide it seemed like a step backwards. I saw one person post a snapshot of the video bezel and a picture of the MacBook Air bezel, proposing that they were different. Has anyone seen any measurements?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

am I the only one that sees that it's just a macbook air in the video?!
