The keyboard is the only thing holding me back! More information please!
The keyboard feels good and sturdy to me. I don't foresee any issues with it, but only time will tell. It is a tad quieter than the '16 and '17 machines (a little less clackity) but still has some click to it. The feel is pretty much identical to the '16 and '17 machines though. To be honest, I had both and never had any failures with those keyboards so I may not be the best judge. The very short travel of the keys does take some getting used to. If it were up to me I would have never changed the original MBP keyboard design, but I guess Apple knows best ;) Other than that the machine is gorgeous. The True Tone display is pretty awesome!

I have tried both keyboards in store. I actually like them quite a bit. My MacBook Air goes every where with me. Even though it is in a bag it does get dusty. So I am concerned about the keyboard.

Thanks for the reply!

What about thermal management? How hot does it run? Do you hear the fans more than with the 16/17?

So here I sit with my brand new MBP 15" 2.6 i7 16 GB 512 SSD, and I have to say it is a joy. Absolutely lovely machine. So those of you sitting on the fence as to whether or not to get one, I say go for it!

Excellent review. Do share some more details on how the you-know-what is performing for you today, and then some months on.

Thank you for the comments regarding the keys. Happy to hear they are quieter but I agree with you I wish they kept the same travel as their older keyboards....the prior Retina Gen was keyboard perfection in my opinion. I’ll be holding on to it for a while yet I think. I’ve given both the first and second Gen keyboards a fair shake, having owned those machines for over a year, but they just don’t cut it for me.

It’s amazing how two years ago this design was pushing bezel free, at that time, yet today it’s considered to have big bezels! Haha

No doubt Apple will make the next design incorporate Face ID and bezel free, akin to their phones and future iPads

I digress. Thank you for sharing OP!

I'm simply having a hard time justifying $2,399 for a MacBook Pro with the same screen resolution as my 2012 model from six years ago. Especially as this is likely something Apple will fix next year with the 2019 models.

Glad you're happy with your purchase though.

I agree with you. The price of these machines in my opinion $200-$300 over what they should be. Not sure exactly where Apple comes up with these prices. Would love to see an educated breakdown component wise.

Nice with the speakers, have you compared with a 16 or 17 model ? Is there a big difference between them ?

Honestly haven't compared as this is my sole machine right now, but they really do sound pretty awesome!

I remember Phil going "and yes it's got a killer new display!" and the crowd erupting. Perhaps the crowd will erupt again next year, or at best next to next.

Yes, it is the 560X. I will get around to it ;)
Awesome. I am really curious about the difference between the '17 and '18 models.

Below are the benchmarks from my '17 (2.9Ghz i7/560). My laptop was warm (about ~2 hrs of web) and around 80% battery life. I was only running iStat and Geekbench during the benchmarking.
