Does anyone know, if I request the PAC code does it

a) Matter which network I go too
b) If I don't move networks will I be charged or will my contract be automatically ended
c) How long does a PAC code last for?

a) no, it will work for any network.
b) your contract won't be affected if you don't use the PAC code, they will just assume that you've changed your mind. You will not be charged.
c) For Three it lasts for a month, I imagine that the other networks are the same.

i'm with O2 at the moment and i was surprised that they are offering to keep your current number if you want to make the jump to the iPhone.

In the past, i've wanted to upgrade, but stay on the same network with the same number, and they wouldn't allow me to keep it ... always insisting on a complete new contract + number

As for calling up for a PAC code ... i nearly lost it with T-Mobile in the past. The guy wouldn't give up the number and after asking what phone i was going to, just spent ages running my choice down. In the end i said "it my life mate, i didn't ask for your opinion so zip it, give me the number which you are oblidged to do, or forward me to the supervisor " ... soon shut up after that.

not decided about going for the iphone yet. i think i'll let the dust settle on the UK reviews and see what people think.

There's no reason that I know of for a network to legally refuse a PAC Code enabling a transfer of your mobile telephone number from one contract to another, or even to a PAYG sim card, so long as you pay whatever is due.

In your case you were going to stay with the same network so I really don't understand why they refused to let you keep your number.

i've never had a contract phone before although i was going to get one before the keynote in January.
glad i didn't!!!!!!!!
nearly there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I can't get trough to Orange disconnections to request my PAC code
Every time I choose the menu option to speak to disconnections the line goes dead, a cunning ploy to prevent me from getting a PAC. tried this all day on my handset and fixed line after inputting my mobile number. Grrrrr.

Here's the trick I used; follow the menus and select the option to talk to a customer services person about upgrading your phone or moving to a contract. They answered the phone faster than they ever have before!

I phoned Orange last Saturday afternoon - it took about 3-4 minutes for them to answer (I followed the 'If you are thinking of leaving Orange' options). My PAC number arrived in the post yesterday.

So, PAC number ready, contacts and calendar updated. Just need to create my ~7GB playlist in iTunes and I will be ready for Friday 9th!

in the post... I phoned Orange at the start of this week and they SMS me the PAC Code. They answered very quickly, but then I did call then at 0830 (when they opened).

I phoned Virginmobile today, and will get my PAC code within three days.

Contacts and calendars updated, photos, musics and wallpaper are selected for iPhone.

Now I need to collect bunch of information for unlocking stuff.

Damn you O2!

i'm putting the phone through on my girlfriends name just in case of hassle with the credit check, i'll stick the money in her account every month...maybe:)

...if the UK version can be of course.

Follow on from my story. Vodafone rang me to convince me to stay after i requested my PAC (as per usual). They asked why I was leaving, I told them iPhone and that if they had it I probably would have stayed and I got a thanks you and he let me go.

No persuasion etc.

Finally got through to disconnections (nice tip BTW;)) and as soon as I mentioned the iPhone the chap gave up trying to talk me around.

I'd like to claim some kind of record... when I phoned up (well, my company phoned up) for my PAC code, it arrived by SMS within 30 seconds of the request. We spent about 2 minutes on the phone.

That happened to me too on Orange a while back, now I am on vodathief it's a different story...

Sorry Orange

Okay, my PAC code is in the post following a short and helpful conversation with Orange. I'm sorry to be leaving them - no problems, no complaints over several years. I don't like being forced to move phone companies.

Same here, been with Orange for 10 years have no complaints - got to say that I'm moving to O2 with a bit of trepidation. Fear of the unknown?

yup same for me too... I've been with orange for over 12 years.. I've noticed changes with them over that time and not many for the good.. but the phone service it's self has been excellent.. It's just a shame they take soo long to bring phones to their network. And when they do they are full of bugs!

oh well..I've been longing for Apple to bring another mobile type thing to the market so I'm moving to O2 to enjoy it.

I've also moved from Orange and, while I've no particular complaints about the 11 years of service I've had from them, they haven't exactly rewarded me for being such a loyal customer either.

I got a really nice older guy when I called to get my PAC code who seemed somewhat bemused by all these people calling to leave just for an iPhone. When I said I was an Apple nut he conceded there wasn't much point in trying to persuade me to stay.

I've never been with any other mobile provider so I'm a little scared too...

Another person leaving Orange. I can't fault their service, but I hate dealing with their off-shore call centre. I definitely won't miss that when I leave. I've used O2 in the past when I was in Glasgow and had no problems with them. Does anyone know if O2's call centre is still in Glasgow, or if they've off-shored it as well?
