This is why I never understood the argument that Apple won't/should announce a new iPhone at WWDC but release it later in the summer. Sales are already falling off due to speculation and market saturation, why not get people amped up for a new iPhone and allow those that aren't going to want the new phone to buy the 5c/5s?

Dear Apple,

We are all aware of your mountains of cash lying at your disposal.

Please stop insulting us loyal customers by retaining the same form factor for TWO years and adding 'S' next to the iPhone model like (3GS, 4S, 5S & next year's 6S).
Yes yes, I understand you make 'significant hardware improvements' by retaining the same form factor.

We know you have the greatest distribution and production network.

Your reach is beyond many Governments of the world and yet you let us sulk with design changes every 2 years?

Come on Apple please give us fans more options and frequent design revisions.

You have everything at your disposal to do much much better than this.

Nobody forces me to use your product or is keeping me from moving to other phone manufacturers, but they aren't as appealing as your phones right from the app-ecosystem to hardware warranties.

Please Apple, please.

It's almost like an unannounced Osborne Effect; except that Apple is the mightiest technology company in the world unlike Osborne.

So surprised. I thought everyone wanted to snatch up a 5S with the smaller screen. :D *sarcasm*

switched from 4s to 5s couple of weeks ago as my contract ran off. i know it isn't that taller, and i have pretty big hands, even though sometimes it feels very uncomfortable to reach the top left edge when using the phone with one hand. this particular gesture was very easy with the 4/4S.

i don't think i'll be glad with an even bigger phone :-(

Unsurprising. The iPhone 6 should remedy this.

I'm still expecting Apple's stock to skyrocket the quarter after the iPhone 6 comes out.

You are hilarious. You think the market hasn't already priced this in? People in charge of billions of dollars have no clue the iPhone 6 is coming out and are pricing the stock like Apple is done making phones?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

You have no clue what you are talking about. You are expecting Apple to release a totally new phone every year when even Android phone companies don't even do that. I'm not seeing how it is an insult.

Research and Development take time, regardless of how much cash you have. Id much rather have an iPhone done right than get a half baked iPhone every six months. If you are jumping ship just because Apple doesn't release a completely new phone every year even Samsung, HTC, Oppo, etc don't release new flagship phones every 6 months either, you're a moron either way.

The stock didn't go up until the announcement of the buybacks and the stock split.

No, the market hasn't already priced this in, not fully, not nearly. It will come into effect after Apple destroys expectations. I am far from the only person who believes this-- including people in charge of billions. If they had, they'd have sold it by now. Why hold onto a stock which has already reached its zenith ahead of the actual product launch? If things don't go as planned it could tank.

And if you honestly think that people in charge of billions of dollars are all that much brighter than average (they aren't), you're deluding yourself.

I do think that if at all possible, Apple has to think about moving to a twice a year roll out of phones. that would smooth out the demand curve a bit IMO.

Absolutely. This will also keep Samsung in check..steal their thunder.

Well you know it's not compulsory that you must buy it. There are other options you know.

....Why the hell do you give a **** about form factor? Jesus Christ.

Not really rumours though...

Easy to blame rumours for declining sales, but the reality is everyone knows that new products come out sooner or later. You don't need to hear a rumour of when the next launch is to think maybe buying a device a long time after it's launch may not be a great idea.

Giving people advance information is as likely to make them purchase the current model (if the value is right), as it is to make people delay a purchase.

Everyone knows the release cycle, and that's not going to change for the better (Apple could release iPhones LESS frequently, but that would be bad).

So, MacRumors, what would it take to get you to buy a iPhone when you know a new model is coming out in 4-6 months? 2-3 months? $99 price tag? An appealing trade-in program? Carrier will unlock subsidized phone if you buy a new subsidized phone early? What would it take?

I do think that if at all possible, Apple has to think about moving to a twice a year roll out of phones. that would smooth out the demand curve a bit IMO.

What does it matter.

If Apple sells 120 phones in over the course of a year, if they sell all in one month or 10 a month, they still sold 120 phones.

I think the fact that Apple does have cyclical release works to their advantage. From a supply perspective, they know that they will have to ramp up production up to meet a certain release date, and then they can slow down production for late comers. In this way, they don't need to store a lot of devices since they know they will fly off the shelf. Unlike say, auto manufacturers that need to build up an X-day supply of vehicles because they don't know exactly when demand will kick in.

As consumers we appreciate it too since we know when the latest and greatest is coming.

Cell phone contracts are still predominately a 2 year term commitment here in the US so you're upgrades are cyclical as well, just on a 2 year period.

I don't like these charts or articles because then they go on to say that "Android is gaining blah blah blah". Someone actually got paid to put that together? When you generalize the myriad of Android devices out there, there is a new "top model" coming out every so many months.

A better statistic would be to compare iphone 5s/5c demand against a Galaxy S4/S5. I'm pretty sure you'll see the same pattern since Samsung also releases upgrades to their line cyclically.

Perhaps the cause is that less people are willed to spend a fortune on a commodity any more. For most customers (the ones that don't read MR) the difference between a mid-priced Android and a high priced Android flagship phone or the iPhone are neglectible.

And Apple isn't present on the low/mid price market, thus they're losing ground, especially outside the US. I doubt that new stores in china can change this.

I hope ypu are aware that this is about intent, not actual purchases. This exact trend has been shown to be cyclical and regular, year after year. Don't project unfounded speculation too much on this. Whem the 6 is released it will look just like the 5S column in the chart again, if not even more so.

Given Tim's track record so far, I'm bracing for a boring update that'll add nothing of interest to the iPhone. As in, same innards with a slightly bigger screen.

The upcoming iPhone is going to be killer especially with ios8 , and the 4.7 .. I know loads of people eagerly waiting for it . Including me

I think the fact that Apple does have cyclical release works to their advantage.

We already know that Apple's single annual release means that sales drop off almost halfway through each year in anticipation of the next model.

OTOH, Samsung has two high end models (the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note), which come out in April and September respectively. Plus all the submodels released in various regions during the year. This all usually keeps their overall sales steady or on an upward climb.
