So funny, people saying finally, break them up, etc.. Yet Apple is just as bad or worse when it comes to locking down their ecosystem and forcing people to use their apps. Heck Apple is a direct benefactor of Google, Google pays them to make Google the default search engine. Wish they would pay Apple to make Google Assistant the default voice assistant too honestly! There is a reason they are number 1 and people have the option to easily switch search engines, this lawsuit should get thrown out imo. Let me ask, just how many of those lawyers use bing or duck duck go over Google???? Yeah that's what I thought. They probably used Google search to learn how to spell Monopoly.

Google is not being accused of locking down their ecosystem. They are being accused of locking down everyone else’s ecosystem.

Locking down your own ecosystem has never been found to be an antitrust violation by any court.

Apple is NOT requiring people to use 'their app'! They are stopping scammers (largely) and crooks from attacking their users.

I, for one, LIKE the idea that there is a lifeguard at the App Pool. Sure, they screw up, occasionally, but the Google Store was a cesspool. Malware and spamware were(are) common there!

If Apple were to be forced to free the spammers and scammers to flood the Apple App Store, I'll give up the iPhone and go to an old style 'flip phone' with no smart features at all. I use the iPhone as a tool. I Do Not Need someone else using my tool to attack me. If you can't see that, you need to just expose all of your personal data somewhere and get it over with.

I wonder how many of these Apple attackers don't even use any Apple products, and are just paid instigators!

GO AWAY! I HAD A 'WINDOWS PHONE', AND IT SUCKED SO MUCH I BOUGHT A NO FEATURES NOKIA WAITING FOR THE 2ND GEN IPHONE!

Go away!!! Apple can decide who plays in their/OUR pool!

This anti-trust stuff is only just for U.S to make a stand that doesn't really exist..

On one hand, it is anti-competitive, but on the other who is Google doing this to ? Apple, a company that has got a "small market share' competitive to others, so really its not about being anti-competive at all.

When your a smaller fish in the sea, its not really a problem, because its not gonna affect the larger side.. No one is forcing people to go with Apple ..
Plus, its only anti-competitive because no one else is doing it... If everyone did it, you wouldn't have an issue.

This is a stupid waste of money.

If Google paid Apple to make Google Search the default AND prevented me from changing the default search engine, I would probably be upset...but that's not the case here...at least for iOS users. I don't know if Google allows Android users to change the defaults. Frankly, I don't care...I have no intention of using Android.

Google's biggest innovation? A search page that doesn't strafe you with ads. The stark contrast with the previous king (Yahoo) completely changed the fortunes of each company. Simplicity.

Good old Netscape. The 0.9b was the first to allow NPAPI plugins (Shockwave, which was pre Flash) which I used to start a company 25 years ago. Now retired. Netscape/plug-ins were good for me. Now all HTML 5.

Good old days.

Shockwave was the software from Macromedia; who also created Freehand which was a direct competitor to Adobe Illustrator (and better in my opinion). When Adobe bought Macromedia, they only really kept Shockwave and rebranded it to Flash.

Wow. I actually cynically never anticipated anything happening with big-tech this year. I thought a lot of it was just political theatre and then boom, DOJ drops this bomb on us.
I knew Google was on the DOJ's radar but I wasn't expending this this year. Though ask yourself this. Is it really to protect the consumer or is is because they want to score voting posts for the election?

Google should be forced to split their stock price. At $1500+ a share only the high rollers and billionaires will be the investors.

I was using the Internet when this was the Internet.

Thank you. I was accessing Prodigy on a Macintosh II and using AOL on a PC, both with U.S. Robotics dial-up modems.

I can't remember how much Prodigy cost. I do remember spending around $100 monthly to use AOL...and tying up the phone line for hours. Now I have a 1 gig fiber line.

I think this is actually pretty dumb. The only reason this is happening is that people now vilify large, successful companies like Google. But, it's not a monopoly (defined as "the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service"), but here's the thing. It's not. There is Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc. Plenty of options other than Google. If people don't want Google as their default browser, they can change it. I use Google simply because I prefer it to the others (which I have tried). The same applies to Apple and the App Store. It's not a monopoly. If people don't want the App Store, they can buy a different phone. I think this is government overreach at its finest.

This kind of thing only happens when you have almost no competition in the marketplace anymore. RIP BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Symbian, Danger...

It's literally Google vs. Apple, Android vs. iOS. With such little competition these days, it's no wonder all devices and OSs look almost the same.
