I got the auto activation thing where it all of a sudden activated and said I had a text message. I then hooked it to iTunes and synced everything and checked for updates and it is all good now.

restoring my 3g from backup right now!!!! How GLORIOUS!

Same here.... finally got mine restoring now as well. My buddy here is about 30 minutes ahead of me in terms of getting activated etc.

So far the only thing that isn't working is Visual Voicemail. Not sure what the story is with that.

The biggest rush must be over because everything cleared up and I'm off and running. I love it!!!!:D

Just got in and everything seems to be working!:)

keep trying guys, I have been at it for over three hours but things must be getting better.

good luck!

My iPhone 3g finally got registered and synced. Nothing special, just kept clicking between Music and iPhone as everyone else has. As stated, it will work eventually, been trying since 8:30:mad:

Allentown, PA Whitehall Mall Apple Store

I was going to buy the Black 8gb 3g iPhone today, but the lines arching left and right outside the door of the Apple Store in Allentown, PA (Whitehall Mall) were about 30-40 people long each way. I was there around 1:00 PM. Will try again one day next week.

I had no problem yesterday updating my current iPhone to 2.0, and buying, downloading from the APP Store. I am only upgrading to get the 3G speed, otherwise I would be very happy with the 2.0 software upgrade.

It just occurred to me that this is why they wanted to do the activations in store. Not for contract reasons; they wanted to lighten the load on iTunes.

Woohoo!

7 hours of trying and it is now working! Thanks be to whoever gave the mouse some cheese to start up the server again.

I am disappointed in Apple. This is two days in a row they have not been delivering on something that should "just work" no matter how difficult of a transition/launch they are going through.

Ah, growing pains. The only solace I have for their rapid growth and seeming loss of service in the process has been my AAPL stock price, which is currently up about 300% from when I bought it. I am sure all this bull$#!t over the past couple days will encourage some people to sell some stock.

At least I finally just got my iPhone 3G to activate and restore. As Johnny Drama (from entourage) would say, "VIC-to-REEEEE!"

Up and running

Bizarre. I had to reboot my MacBook Pro and so I waited for my latest activation attempt on iTunes to error out. Rebooted and suddenly the phone activated itself. Got the welcome SMS. Went into iTunes, clicked on my phone, got the -4 error a few times but then it went through and now I'm up and running. Awesome. =)

Apple iphone

Dose anyone know when you get the iphone dose it come sealed or the Apple or ATT person opens it. I heard that they type the model number of the iphone which is in the back of the box then u take it home and open it and and it works with your number by itunes. anyone know ? or has bought it and the process how it works ?

My iPhone v1 with 2.0 software just now updated! It took 4+ hours of every-now-and-then checking and trying, but it finally connected to the servers in iTunes and activated. Phew. That was a lame 4 hours.

Now about getting a new 3G.... ;)

Walked out of AT&T at 9:30am with 3G in hand unactivated. At 10:30am, 3G activated and immediately received 4 text messages. 11am --> 2pm tried to sync, kept getting error codes. 2:05pm, restoring from backup!

Just keep trying!

Works

my original iPhone is now up and working with V2.0. Really slick. I am impressed with how quick apple can go from total melt down to getting things back up even with millions (everyone with a new 3G as well as original were trying to get onto the servers) of people bombarding them. I am not a fanboy, and only recently started using apple, but this is much better than Microsoft or RIM (everyone remember those fun times things go down for no apparent reason, even without millions of people accessing the servers at once?) and I am beginning to see why fanboys of apple are out there.

When I first powered it on, it said emergency calls only. After about half an hour of trying nonstop on itunes, it still isn't working, but my phone suddenly came to life and it's fully functional, I just can't get it to come up in itunes. I'm even able to download apps on the app store, and somehow it knew my name, so i guess part of the sync with itunes worked if it already knew my screen name for the app store.

:) :) Listening to Pandora now... How cool!

Nice. I have been waiting around for about an hour and nothing. But after reading this I tried poking around the itunes store and within a few seconds itunes prompted me and said "Now restoring your iphone"

It is completely synced and it is working perfectly now!

Thanks, man.

WOW. I am laughing at how AT&T and Apple had numerous postings throughout their websites asking customers to be "iReady". Sounds like the customer was prepared but the business was not.

This is absolutely horrible execution on behalf of their companies. I simply do not understand how they could be so unprepared for this event, especially on the network side of things. I don't see how Apple/Cingular servers could be hit hard enough to take their web servers down, especially knowing how much hardware had already been shipped. If, from what I have read is true, the customer turnover time for every phone is 15 minutes. So, my little guestimated equation is as follows:

-There are approximately 1800 stores selling the iPhone.
-There are approximately 4 kiosks/CSR's per store to fulfill orders
-Each order takes approximately 15 minutes(so 4 orders per CSR/kiosk hour)

so:
4 kiosks/CSR's
(x) 4 orders per hours
__________________________
= 24 phones per hour/per store
(x) 1800 (stores)
_________________________
43,200 sessions on web application server per hour

Granted, that's a fair amount of traffic, but it's not like everyone is pulling down hi-def streaming video files.
