Save yourself 5-8 hours and just skip the line

I rolled into the apple store in Cherry Creek Mall, Denver CO past all y'all waiting like you were at disneyland, told the security guard I was only there to buy an Ipod nano(which I did), some lady in the crowd was all like 'hey you need to wait' to which I showed her my OG iphone and said 'don't worry I'm covered', but my lady wanted an iphone so after I bought the nano I told the sales guy I wanted an iphone too. He was all like 'thats fine, you wait in line?' I said I waited in line to see him which seemed to be good enough. Soon as I sync it up on her lappy I'll post pics.

Again if you wait in line good for you. Follow my advice and you can return the nano or whatever software you bought later.

To anyone complaining, your standing in that line is your own fault!

i just got mine to work right now, but no service at first then i just switched the sim cards from my iphone 1st gen to the 3g iphone and now works perfect. I think thats why they gave the little SIM ejector tool. for that purpose. hope this helps some people, i Haven't tried to sync my music yet but thats the next step

seems like you americans really got the erm.....bad.....end of the stick! :p and the uk did come to think of it,we didnt get much stock at all over here, the biggest stores only got 50 or less, my store only got 5! i had pre ordered mine so i got it, walked out of the shop with it still sealed, got home, plugged it onto itunes, registered it and synced it! all done in 5 mins!

it's hard to believe apple didnt realise, especially after the mobile me problems, that MILLIONS of people will be accessing iTunes from 8.00am onwards.....i mean, come on! i wonder will heads roll in apple hq. cause someone must have messed up!

Finally

After having waited approx. 6 hours for my iPhone 1G to activate, it finally has!!!!!!!!! (Apps are currently syncing as we speak!) Its been a really long day- not having my iphone working was BRUTAL! I feel for those who are still waiting! I highly recomened not trying too often because your only making it worse- try every half hour or so becuase your just making it harder if people keep trying to activate! The apps are taking a while to sync (probably because i downloaded like a zillion!)

anyways IM SO EXCITED, not trying to brag but trust me once your phone activates youll feel INCREDIBLE!

anyone think steve jobs should give us a $20 gift certificate for having to wait so long? I sure could use the extra 20 on those apps... hahaha

It's Gooood

Finally got my iPhone to sync with iTunes. Keep trying and have patience.:)

Think I have it figured out.....

Many of us went home with our iPhone 3Gs not activated at the store - in my case, Rogers' (Canada) servers were down and they couldn't activate the phone at all. Then they tried to activate it using iTunes and couldn't so they sent me home to try.

After trying to unbrick it at home myself for three hours, I finally saw that Rogers had managed to register the phone - had noticed at the same time that it was unbricked. It was only after that, that I was able to get through to the Apple server which would allow me to sync it to my computer.

Ergo: the telephone company (Rogers or AT&T) first needs to register the iPhone on their network before Apple can see it as a valid device. Once it's unbricked (through telco activation) it becomes recognized by iTunes and Apple. Just a guess.

The good news is that it's now happily syncing away. It's almost as happy as I am.

All syncing up a treat over here now... got in line at 8.00 this morning- is now half past eight in the evening.
12 hours to activate! What fun and comradary we have experienced tho.
Nice clicking update with you guys...
Yay apple!

I believe apple just did something because a lot of people seem to have their iphones currently syncing (as is mine)....

this is such a relief!

Just a little patience people, if you keep trying, your phone will be activated by this evening.

I spent the night at the local AT&T store in Folsom, California. I was about the 10th person in the store and the purchase went pretty quick, about ten minutes. When I got home it took me a few tries before ITunes would work, probably the same issue others were having...but it didn't take but about three tries.

I'm at work now and dead tired from being up all night, but I happy to have a new IPhone!

Bad form...

For one, it is fun to camp out (I assume, since I was stripped of my right to this morning!!!)

Second, cutting == cheating, and cheating is never okay. Way to be a dick.

I tried to upgrade to the 2.0 software, but had the same problem with the iTunes store timing out (error -4), making the iphone unusuable.

I just option clicked the iphone in itunes, and it restored my iphone to version 2.0.

Dom
previous software version of iPhone was 1.4

This is worth trying, but at the Apple store by me they weren't letting anyone in who didn't come from the line.

Anybody else noticing battery life going down much faster than usual after using some of the apps on their First Gen iPhones?

I've been playing around with:
AIM
PhoneSabre
Remote
Rotary Dial
iPint (very fun "drinking" down the pint at the end. Gotten A LOT of laughs over it)
Loopt
Trism

I know that I should have expected this but it still has caught me off guard when the only interaction I've had before is with the iPod feature, email and web.

Anyone still getting the message that their Al iPhone is up to date with 1.1.4 when they try to update via iTunes?

Took long enough!

Alright I had been trying since about 8:30 this morning to try and update my first generation iPhone to 2.0 software and it is finally working! I'll tell you, these apple people can go from total meltdown to finally working fine. I was extremely angry that apple didn't just release the 2.0 yesterday so there was less commotion, but it finally worked.

All I can say is keep trying, and it should eventually work!

Way To Go Steve!

You announce the iPhone 3G over a month before you have it to sell or even put on display in the stores and your company still isn't prepared! What a joke Apple has become since their stock became a high flyer and they decided to spend all their time focusing on gadget sales like nano's and phones. It doesn't surprise me that Apple's servers crashed, because they aren't in the computer business anymore. For all of you who waiting in line and dealt with this horrible activation process, don't worry...Steve will cut the price in half in 30 days anyway!!!! Way to go :apple: ATTpple :apple: ! You made the frontpage today at least!
