That's what the Apple people say, but I don't believe it, as much as I want to.

Here's the thing: AT&T's server updated my plan in 15-20 seconds. The iTunes server is taking the time now. And I know AT&T's good to go because my old IMEI in my old iPhone is not working.

Unless I don't understand something (hugely possible), this looks like Apple's snafu.

Exactly. It isn't AT&T's wrong doing here this time. AT&T had no problem updating the accounts when I was there this morning (@ the AT&T store). The problems were happening at the last step (when you connect to Apple's iTunes servers to "unbrick" the phone). I know that Apple is considered by most to be perfect but they completely blew this one. I love apple and its service but this is bad. In line for 3 hours and all i have to show for it is a bricked iPhone 3G.

This same thing is now happening at home so it isn't directly related to AT&T, its the iTunes servers.

The problem....just like in the beginning had to do with ATT. There was an overload of people on the servers trying to activate and ATT couldnt handle it. I still cant get my iPod touch going, and its getting me mad.

AT&T might be having problems as well, but if this were just an AT&T issue it wouldn't cause problems for your iPod Touch since AT&T has nothing to do with that.

I was in the process of upgrading my 1st gen iPhone to 2.0. After hours of trying and trying, I finally was able to finish my sync. Took about 20 tries before I could manage to unbrick my phone. Hours of missed calls and such, because my phone was unusable.

I am so disappointed in this process that looks to be not much better than last year. Last year, it took THREE DAYS to unbrick my new phone. Looks like Apple is so obsessed with unlocking prevention, that they have forgotten to address ease of use. :apple: products should never be stressful or perceived as time-wasters.

Rant over. That said..... Wait until the majority have activated the 3G's before you upgrade your existing 2G.

Apple is awesome! Not... :apple::apple::apple:

I laugh at all the dweebs who camped out for weeks to get a non working phone! LOL...:D:D:D:D:D:D:p:p:p

I can't wait to upgrade to the Treo 800wx it's truely bad ass! I've got my ipod touch if I want to watch youtube while taking a dump.

Do you think I can get an iPhone later tonight at apple store?

Went to an ATT store in the morning and they ran out of stock. :(

Accessing itunes

So I never did access itunes but I just received a text on my phone and everything seems to be working but all my contacts and info are gone and my itunes still says accessing itunes so I cant put them back on from my address book. What do I do now? Anyone else experience this?

yea that happened to me, just say thanks and move on with it for the day, once everything settles then sync your phone. Write all your important numbers down, and be thankful you have a phone that works

Your either a die hard fanboy or someone who doesnt know whats going on. If your touch is having problems then that should tell you the problem lies with iTunes/APPLE. AT&T has nothing to do with the touch. I hate AT&T as much as the next guy but come on. Place the blame where it should be this time:

ON APPLE.

Enjoying my white iPhone now. Went into the Bellevue Square Apple Store by 8AM, porting my T-mobile #, picked up a copy of MobileMe, white iPhone, and Dock. Walked out the store at around 8:45am.

I finally got my phone "activated through itunes" but now I am stuck NOT being activated by AT&T. My phone says that it has no service. Anybody else with this issue?

I got mine at 810 this morning with no activation issues. However, i didnt have AT&T service for about 20 minutes at first....odd...

An awful spectacle

This could not be a more poor launch IMHO. I'm in Durham, NC.

AT&T waited until about 9:30 to tell those in line they only had ~30 phones.

Apple Store has 1500. After 5 hours of waiting with little progress, I (1) had to go to work and (2) couldn't take it anymore.

The guy a few back was timing some folks, & the average was about 15 customers per hour getting into the store. Coming out, the lucky ones stated it took about 30 minutes to get up and running once through the gates.

There were 80 people in front of me when I left. I just didn't have another 5 hours. Everyone is saying it's AT&T's activation but it is also iTunes having issues. It F&^*#$%^ sucks and I am really, really agitated at this pis poor planning.

Actually just now (1:21 CT), iTunes 7.7 told me that 1.1.4 was the latest version. Hmmm

The same sort of thing happened with the MobileMe OSX updater. If you got to it early on Thursday morning (USA time) you could get it and you'd get all the cloud icons replacing the .mac ones. If you try now it ain't there.

Delaying the first-gen iPhone's from hitting the servers as well should help a little bit.

After 3 failed attempts in the store and about 7-8 attempts at home, finally got the phone working, but I can't sync/restore all my old stuff. Arrgggghh....

EDIT....just got through after about another 15 mins. Restore in process!!! Check that restore done! I'm cooking with gas! Yess!!!

What exactly is badass about the Treo 800wx? Even as far as Windows Mobile phones go, Palm and the Treo line have long since been left in the dust by HTC, the SonyEricsson Xperian, etc.

Has any existing att customer tried to buy an iphone from an apple store? Paid the full proce of 399 and 499? Thanks...

A call to the Menlo Park NJ Apple Store reveals that they will happily sell you a phone, and don't care what kind of customer you are. However, as the line is still going out the mall doors into the parking lot, we'll be waiting a day or so..

itouch outta touch...

Waz planning on stopping by my WLA ATT store today and picking up my first iphone...been waiting like a vulture for this one. After reading the threads above, looks like I'll try next week when things calm down a bit. Tried to get my ipod touch into the 2.0 world but no-go. Getting 1.1.4 is current version alternately with the red stop sign letting me know, no access to the iTunes store at this time. Maybe they should have Seti'd the activation servers if they were running short of juice for this launch...My heart goes out toi all you first adopters.

Xperian lists for $1000.. cough cough..

For the price I can get the 800wx for, IT IS badass and featured phone! Nice upgrade from my POS Palm OS 755P (but still better than iPhone because I use the copy paste feature all the time... and have been enojoying 3G for a couple of years now :D)

Well I sure am glad I got the 2.0 software yesterday - that would really suck to be going on a trip (leaving in 30 mins) with either 1) a bricked phone or 2)a 2.0-less phone. Games certainly are going to be entertaining.

I wonder tho - why didn't Apple release the software a day or two early and that way they'd get a whole bunch of the traffic out of the way from the Touch and existing iPhone customers...

I was second in line at the apple store in Sherwood Park Alberta. They only got three 16Gb in ... I got one of them. Rogers web activation program offline. Took 4 hours to get through to the phone activations!

Just got home

is iTunes Working for anyone...I can't get my iPhone to sync...when will Apple restart there damn iTunes servers...wtf...

Very good point.. My hypothesis is stupid action plan by apple?

Probably the same culture that is responsible for not having a dedicated testing team for the OS X product.
