Maybe a new MBP?

I just got my 15" 2.2 i7 MBP last spring, but if Apple releases new models with flash storage, it's going to be pretty tempting to upgrade.

I'm waiting while I'm waiting. As my old outdated vintage MBP chugs along rendering in FCPX, I'm holding onto my hard-earned currency earmarked for a new MBP that'll hopefully render significantly quicker. Theoretically a fast i7 Ivy quad with beaucoup RAM and VRAM should be able to churn stuff swiftly, or maybe that's just Ivy hype.

I would go in another direction with the Mac line...

I would like to see Apple continue their designs so that most if not all of their products are without optical drives built in. Of course continue to build external super drives, but make them work with any of their devices.

I would also like to see more utilization of the thunderbolt technology. Perhaps once the optical drives are removed from the current body style of macbook Pros, they could use the extra space to incorporate a larger SSD and/or battery so that the thunderbolt port could power every accessory. That would: help the environment, boost sales of cinema displays, make all of their products powerful and portable, and make their products less reliant on usb and other dated connectivity technology.

When/if they release the new Mac Pro, their numbers are going to be quite impressive. They better have a pretty good inventory ready to go on release date.

The new Mac Pro sales will be measured in the thousands.

New iPhone and iPad sales are measured in the millions. On their first days.

We need to accept that from Apple's perspective Mac Pro will not be 'quite impressive' no matter how many of us want one.

Even their Macbook Air line barely cracks into the 'measured in the millions' (per quarter) metrics.

The volume simply isn't there.

Update the Mac Mini again :p, the next one should be more powerful than my current iMac.

How often does the processor on you Mac Mini hit 100%, and if it ever does, for what percentage of its time in use does it stay at 100%? Chances are that if you got one with a more powerful processor, you'd never use that extra power.

If you're one of the 99+% of us that don't get involved with high-end professional projects, the new power is only a perceived benefit, not an actual one.

Anxiously waiting for the new iPad is justifiable because 95% of the owners will benefit from the retina display. Because of this, sales of the iPad should be huge.

If they make Profit with MacPro it shouldn't matter do they sell them by hunders, thousands or millions. Profit is profit.

And if Apple wont do MacPro machines then I will do them and sell like PearC does. I could use couple of hundred bucks extra.

Somekind of ThunderBolt ultra low-latency network card?

External GPU stuff

We will see more TB motherboards and peripherals this year.

quad-core 11" MBA or 13" MBP

I'm waiting for quad-core on a 11" MBA or 13" MBP before I buy.

I'm just torn between which of the two I prefer. I'm thinking MBP is a better investment though to hold onto for a few years.

When is the earliest you guys think Apple could possibly have a 512GB SSD option in the MacBook Air?
The fact that some people are replying saying it won't happen soon brushes on my question, but I'm wondering when people think prices and availability will converge so that Apple (not a third party) offers a 512GB option. I know it's too pricey now, so my question is when?

Safari Logo

Where did you get that safari logo? i have the updated version but my pins are slightly different. I know this is off topic but I'm curious.

One only needs to refer to the last minute of the iPad keynote to know that, its coming.

Great stuff, is coming.

Retina MacBook Pro wil be the first one, and it will be a redesign with slim unibody design with no optical drive.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will be able to make a slim 15" MacBook Pro, and also build a HDD in. Either they will, or they won't. If they do, fine, if not, fine too.

I know lots of people will complain about the mythical "need" for 500 GB of local storage, but by "lots" I mean forum whiners. Not real users.

I have been waiting for the Mac Pro to update ever since i sold my 2nd Faulty iMac 27 because of the well documented Dirty Smudged Screen problem.

But all Apple seems interested in is it's Micro Sized iOS Toys - The last Mac-Pro update was nearly 600 Days ago.

I personally need a Good Fast Computer & 24"+ Display because of what i use it for (Music, Video, & 3D Modelling)

iPad 9" Retina Display ( you can't see the XXXXXXX pixels because the screen is so XXXXXX small ) & you can't buy a iMac 27 because it has a design fault with the LCD Panel..

All my Software at Present is Apple ( Logic Pro , Final Cut ) so A PC is no good but i am seriously thinking about cutting my losses and going over to the P.C

Toys R us (infinite loop C.A)

Er, Eric Slivka's analysis is pretty bad here.

Gene Munster said his analysis shows that the consensus Wall Street projections are accurate. (Put another way: he agrees with Wall Street consensus.) Yet this article somehow concludes from his analysis that Mac sales are behind projections -- based on Gene Munster's analysis!

Nice.

Also, it's hard to say Apple is behind on sales when you're comparing actual sales to Wall Street projections. Projections == guessing/estimating the future. Good projections will be over or under actual sales at roughly equal frequency, and within a fairly small spread. So actual sales falling slighly under projections is not a bad sign. It might be a good sign -- maybe the projections were decent.

It would be a lot more meaningful to know how well Apple is tracking against their own sales projections.

I’m waiting for the ivy bridge so I can try it out my first Mac, which is going to be the MBA. As for iPhones, it seems to me that most of the buyers these days are either old folks that are new to the smartphone world or teenage girls. The iphones have gotten played out and boring lately, they made a mistake by not making a new model last year since now it just looks played out and stale.

Did you just string a bunch of words together, or were you actually trying to say something?

Once in a while it would be nice to read about computers by Apple, upgrades, performance enhancements, new software. News for this has gotten few and far between all the iPhone and iOS news.

For example: I'd love to read about the next version of Final Cut Pro X.

Nope!

Bought a new MacBook Air 11" 128 GB about a week and a half ago, sold my iPad 1 and haven't looked back.

MacBook Air > iPad....for my purposes.

Steve

A new Mac Pro by the end of April would be swell. :D

(I just want one of the new vid cards that would come out, for an upgrade.)

Umm... A New Mac Pro anyone????

How about that Midrange Mac that people want, that would be midpriced without a monitor built in. and you can upgrade graphics cards and such. get a nice 4-5 year use out of that.

They won't do that because it would cannibalize the iMac. Apple would either do:

a. Some kind of ITX Mini Pro, where it has a single PCIe slot and fits in the space of a "cube", this wouldn't allow for a full size PCIe card, so It doesn't work for the Pro market.
b. Re-engineer the existing Mac Pro as a rackmountable. The problem with this approach is that it would have a high center of gravity if not horizontally mounted (see Xbox360, and most entertainment set top boxes) if it's too tall. Maybe a AV style rackmountable instead (4U(7") x 9.5") since that's the "Pro" audience that the Mac Pro mostly caters to.
c. Licence OSX to one specific OEM to build and sell MacPro's with Apple's required configurations. This would unfortunately cannibalize all Mac desktop sales.

I'm waiting for the new iMac or Mac Mini, leaning more towards the Mini because of its compact size and the fact if something breaks, I don't have to lug around this huge computer around. But if the new iMac is a big leap forward (higher res screen for example), I may get that instead.

I'm kinda tempted to buy the 2011 Mini and simply resell it when the new iMacs and Minis are announced if the updates are significant enough to justify upgrading. Much easier to sell and ship a Mini than an iMac, that's for sure.

And guaranteed that a Mini will retain more resale value than an iMac if the new iMac is a huge leap forward. Mini will probably get an updated GPU and Ivy bridge but nothing revolutionary.

Anyway, I wish we had some hints as to what may be coming. Where are the leaked secrets???? :D

Bring a retina display to macbook pro and a 64GB SSD for a faster OS startup plus a standard HDD for mass storage. But I doubt that. Generally they bring a single killer feature at each generation, considering that Thunderbolt was such a "killer" feature in the last generation.

Where in hell is my bloody shiny new iMac ^^

With easily serviceable SSD and hard disk would be great.

My POS 15 Intel Core2 Duo finally died

My 3 1/2 year old 15 MB Pro that every component replaced at least once, except the LCD, finally had its final logic board failure and now there is nothing to buy. Even with the Applecare, it really was a piece of garbage from a hardware reliability standpoint.

So, I am using my 2 year old Mini with a 512 SSD and 8GB of RAM to tied me over. As for potability, I finally ordered my first iPad. Maybe I'll wait for another year or so to see what Apple comes up with for the MB Pro.

Sometimes it's difficult to believe that. I have a white macbook that works nice since april, 2010. Almost two years of flawless operation. I use it around 35-40 hours a week in external display/keyboard/mouse though.

I'm planning to buy a new one around 2014 and I hope it keeps working until then.
