It's net neutrality in name only, just a political football.

Read it. Understand it's what the internet was a while ago. With or without it there's no big deal, other than more potential ISP competition without "net neutrality" and more government with "net neutrality"

So depending on where you fall in the political spectrum, it's your "vote" so the politicians will use it to energize their base.

No. You're charged more (per watt) for usage during peak hours. You're not charged differently for running a dishwasher instead of something else. Or are you? At least not anywhere I've seen. The meters on individual appliances are for helping you figure out what's wasting your electricity.

Yes, the ability is there to charge you less for not using a specific device, oven maybe. Implementation in my area deffered, notice did not say removed from the smart meters.

IDK, I use Comcast in my apartment, and it's fine.

Wait until it isn’t and then try calling customer support. Report back after that. Oh and keep an eye on your bill. Might get charged for things you shouldn’t be charged for.

Good on those three Republicans for representing their constituents instead of their party.

It's far too damn rare to see people actually standing up for the country once known as the Most Powerful Nation On The Planet.

See, for you trumpers, you can sing and stomp and carry on that America is still the most 'Powerful Nation On The Planet' (Add ominous music and crashes of cymbals ad drums) but your racist ignorant and dementia addled Russian Parasite pretty much ruined that after he was installed.

Killing 'Net Neutrality' was just a tick mark on his list. Another thing that the black president that humiliated him (pointed out what an ass he was) at the White House Correspondents Dinner (Nerd Prom, when the correspondent pat themselves on the back for their stenography) accomplished. I mean, it's a damn good thing that Obama didn't figure out a way to keep people alive after March 23, 01135UTC, because we would ALL BE DEAD! He has killed almost everything that Obama did while he was president. (And apparently taunting the GOP because he won two elections)

And the GOP has largely, and in lockstep, followed him off the cliff. I wonder what Putin has on all of them. Hmm...

Net Neutrality assures that the Internet, that We The People PAID FOR, IN FULL, isn't turned into yet another way for the corporations to rape us. We PAID for this. It's OURS! It's NOT Verizon's, it's not AT&T's. WE paid for this. It's OURS! We should be able to DRAIN IT DRY if we want to.

AT&T should not be able to charge us MORE for wanting to watch a competitors streaming product, or use a competitors email service. The internet should be like the road outside my house. ALL traffic running at the same speed, no matter where they are going, or who they have in the car, or where they came from! Neutrality. You know, lie 'Separate but equal'? Like E Plurubus Unum. 'Out of many, one'. Like it doesn't matter your skin color, eye color, hair color (or if you even have hair), ALL are welcome.

"When we see our uniqueness as a virtue, only then will we find peace".

Net neutrality is important. Really important...

Actually the process in place and ramping up on electricity use. The electrical utility installed smart meters here, which have the ability to read individual device useage. Your example, dishwasher. Additionally they can monitor per time of day use thus, charging different prices by time and device. All transmitted wirelessly 24/7. The dishwasher already a reality. Run the dishwasher during peak electrical times or more then once per day, pay more. Up in arms Yes, did it change anything, No. Technology can be a catch 22.

While your description is correct for electricity, your analogy is incorrect as regard to NN.

Your electricity company is not discriminating against you using your dish washer specifically. Any electricity used during that period, the cost per kWh remains the same, regardless of use.

I am so sorry you are so misinformed on the subject.

Quick question: Chemtrails? Real, or fake.

A 'smart meter' can't tell if the power is used by a dish washer, or a toaster.

A 'smart meter' DOES have the ability to be read from the curb. It also has the ability to adjust your usage based on time of day. (What I was told) So, if you DO use a boat load of power at the 'peak usage' of the day, you could be placed in a higher usage bracket than your neighbor, who doesn't use as much.

It's a 'one armed bandit', not some kind of magical device that will bust your dish washer for using more energy.

Dude go away with all the attacks. Your anti Trump rhetoric and attacking people in every political post is just obnoxious and completely negates the message you should be focused on that you’re right about. NN is super important. Most of what you said here was spot on. But ranting incoherently about Trump being a Russian plant, or a racist, or having dimentia is just divisive and stops anyone who is reading your comments from listening to the important part of your message. It makes you sound immature and is factually wrong to boot. Bashing trump supporters online doesn’t help anyone. It doesn’t help your side in any way. Great job convincing people that your take on NN should be opposed.

P.S. I’m still waiting on your specific examples of how America is suffering under Trump.

You’re terribly uninformed. On a grand scale.

Democracy at its best.

Voted against, then gets passed onto a group who will most likely reverse the decision of the vote.

Smart meters normally can’t record the specific energy use per appliance. They just record the total quantity of electricity used and time.

Recording specific appliance energy use would require a device at the plug point / the appliance being able to record energy use and communicate that.

Until the Obama ruling the internet providers had been doing just fine for us all. None of the sky is falling BS I see being tossed around. Leave it alone until they actually DO something. They’ve been part of the amazing growth of our internet. Why handicap them? The repeal of Obama’s ruling should stand.

Before Obama took office the internet was pretty different. Back then almost no one streamed video, now almost everyone does. It is evolving rapidly and we need to protect it from a small number of telecoms having ultimate say over it, especially when in large areas of the country there isn’t any competition.

But that’s an Federal Trade Commision issue, not a Federal Communications Commision issue. The popular opinion on this is built on a terribly misguided foundation. Title II classification is not the same as Net Neutrality.

The ‘net neutrality’ FCC regulations as written, do not achieve what you want, and create additional issues. To believe otherwise, you’ve been mislead or just deliberate intellectual dishonesty.

Unfair trade practices, which is what you are describing, are handled by the FTC. Sorry Net Neuts, you got the wrong agency. Go there and complain you’re being charged differently for the exact same bits of data.

This deserves to fail in the House. Those that really care should do net neutrality the right way, rather than the wrong way by creating another redundant, expensive, extraneous, ineffective, mismanaged government monstrosity.

Whoa-- just wait a sec! This is Congress trying to pass a law. The gist of the objection to FCC regulations on NN by Ajit Pai is that it should be implemented by the people's elected representatives, not an unelected body such as the FCC. The FCC can regulate such if Congress so decides. Your objection to Congressional action is off-the-wall, and provides evidence to support the claim that opposition to NN is not based on sound governance, but just pandering to ISPs.

I’m so glad the Senate is wasting time voting on legislation that has little to no chance of passing the House or being signed by Trump, when there’s any number of more pressing and important things that need to be taken care of in this country.

But hey, if it’s to score cheap political points in the run up to November, why not?

It's to get individual members of Congress on record, so that the voters can make an informed decision in November. What's wrong with that? Seems a pretty good use of time by a Congress which otherwise gets little done.

Well that sucks. Maybe you can trick them into thinking your oven is something else.

Man, once we flush this filthy administration out of our government we’re going to have sooooo much work to do to reverse all their damage and restore order. Get out and vote blue this November folks!
Screw that. I'd rather see the toast Democrat party replaced by something else. Trump needs to go, but they don't offer anything better, and they threw their credibility down the toilet.

I've had to call customer support a couple of times, and they dealt with everything easily.

Enough with that “they’re all the same” garbage. This wouldn’t be happening under Democratic leadership.

Lol!

Both parties are just owned by different groups of corporations.
And yet only 3 Republicans in the senate voted to restore net neutrality. You have to be purposely blind to insinuate that both parties are the same.
