Exactly, just because we believe it's wrong doesn't really matter. I don't agree with most speed limits, does that mean I can speed.

I know everyone has already said this , but you obviously don't know what a monopoly is. Name one coffee machine maker that has a monopoly. Suing someone for breaking a patent has nothing to do with a monopoly. Apple does not have a monopoly on apps, in fact they make very few, and are available on both platforms. Apple may restrict how you get an app, but that has nothing to do with a monopoly.
It is you who does not know what a monopoly is.

A cable company might not have a monopoly on TV reception, but they can have a monopoly in cable service in a region.

A coffee machine maker that has a patent for their capsule design can have a monopoly on coffee for those machines.

I did not say Apple has a monopoly on apps, but on app distribution for iOS.

Google has a quasi-monopoly on Android app distribution because many ISVs choose to only distribute their apps via the Play Store. This affects other OSes like BB10, Sailfish, and FireOS that can run many Android apps but don't have the Play Store because Google does not provide it for them.

Regressive on the left and regressive and the right both lead to regression of the human common sense.

Different business model != not greedy.
Google’s main revenue come from ads.
BB10 is, dead.
And Jobs stated from day 1 of the original iPhone that devs can make web apps and it won’t have any restrictions.
No monopoly here.

Good luck making a purely web-based VPN app.

I'd imagine Apple has zero control over this situation. They need to abide by different laws and regulations all over the world. I am guessing these senators expect Apple to not sell iPhones in China because of this? Or not follow the rules and be banned in the country? Not sure what business would make that decision.

Google did. They gave up a 35% and growing search engine position in China back in 2010 because they didn't condone the censorship and government surveillance hacks.

this is height of hypocrisy The federal government forced Apple to unlock an iPhone in a terrorism related case. It also tried to force Apple to keep a backdoor for NSA/FBI. Apple refused.

No, the FBI didn't ask for a general backdoor. They asked for Apple to create an OS version that Apple could load and lock to a single phone at a time, that would let the FBI try multiple PINs without locking, under a warrant.

Also, NSA wasn't a party to the FBI's request, nor did they support it.

Umm hello?? The NSA? The Snowden leaks? The Assange leaks? PRISM?

PRISM and most other programs were about storing information so that if needed, a court could allow them to go back and find clues that otherwise would've disappeared.

They were not about censorship or constant surveillance like China does. (Over 2 million Chinese are employed just to watch what people do on the internet there.)

The Constitution it's a fabulous read.

Unfortunately it’s mostly fiction anymore.

The Supreme Court said that corporations have the same free speech rights as a human does. Except the corporations who filed and won that lawsuit are worth billions, and the average person isn’t. But of course, elected officials listen to both sets of voices equally, and don’t let the fact that one group can raise millions directly and hundreds of millions indirectly for them and their campaign while the average voter can afford to donate maybe a couple hundred dollars toward their interests. Totally even political field. Not.

Politics has always listened to money, but with all of the “reforms” of the last 30 years it no longer needs to listen to anything else.

I ask the same thing about Trump spying my phone calls on my iPhone and Trump also wiretaps his customers at Trump Tower not such a ignorant man.
[doublepost=1508523979][/doublepost]Just wait Trump will poop tweet "Obama did it" or about NFL.

Can Trump read the Constitution? He still does not know when the Constitution was put together and his ignorance towards the First Amendment.

Made a mistake quoting you, disregard.

Let’s just abandon it.
Let’s not ask questions and let due process take place. Because a matter isn’t favorable in one party’s eyes doesn’t necessarily mean the process wasn’t implemented.

Umm hello?? The NSA? The Snowden leaks? The Assange leaks? PRISM? US Senators (INCLUDING TED CRUZ) repealing privacy laws?

Grow a spine you gutless hacks!!

Honest question. Can you point me toward which privacy laws Ted Cruz has helped repeal? He is generally FOR individual liberties and privacy.

I wouldn't have expected Apple do any different.

Instead U.S and China should just duke it out .. Apple's only following orders.

finally someone exposed Timmy hypocrisy

leftist Tim pandering the communist Chinese gov and at the same constantly virtual signaling USA citizens and telling them what they must think and do and how they should behave

hating on Trump and how he "behaves" and not criticizing the Chinese gov. and actually supporting them in their censorship and human rights violator

Apple owning slave factories in china with suicide nets in them

Tim has no soul

Maybe Apple is being blackmailed somehow.
To sell in China Apple must abide by local rules and regulations. With the majority of Apple’s products being manufactured in China Apple does not have much of a choice. The Apple apps are also on China’s cloud server. The Chinese have Apple by both balls.

The new iPhone D is over $1K just imagine what it would cost if it were made in US factories here in America. Factor in workers comp,lawsuits,benefits,bonuses,insurance,etc.. lol. That new iPhone would be $3-4K

That new iPhone would be $3-4K

That number might be true, if the price of an iPhone was 100% (Chinese) labor AND was still 100% handmade in the US.

So no parts, no development, no marketing, no distribution and off course no profits.

In reality it might add another 100$ to the price.

Apple is a company, not a government agency. To sell its product it has to comply with the laws of lots of countries that have laws that permit the state to openly or secretly spy on its citizens including Russia, most Middle East countries probably some Latin American ones and a significant portion of Asia. I’m lazy and don’t feel like researching using my phone but I don’t think that you’d have a problem finding IOS apps banned or restricted in a lot of countries.

This Chinese vpn law wasn’t aimed solely at Apple or iPhones. I’m sure any network capable device sold there has to comply. And obviously any Chinese phone manufacturer. Lets get all the patriots from this thread to swear they will not buy nor support any of these companies or devices, including things like web cams and other IOT devices which are primarily made by Chinese factories including the real cheap smartphones now being sold in the the US and Europe. Yes, this would include Apple and therefore would probably get Tim kicked out as CEO. If enough people actually follow through on their pledge. Which most people, even (especially) those screaming about Apple hypocrisy, wont.

:Edit-reinserted a word before Russia.

There are so many regulations these days in America that Apple would need a permit for just about everything you could think of to get that phone made here. They would have a local recycling fee for probably every part made in that phone just where they charge you for water in California and then charge you a recycling fee based on the number of gallons of water used per month. They pretty much charge you for 2-3 gallons of water for every gallon used in California.

On the bright side though Apple's high prices has allowed Chinese smartphone makers to profit nicely as Apple set a high benchmark for retail pricing. Their high prices allow them to sell for less with good profit margins. Huawei and others have flourished because of this.

Chinese often work over time just to Keep up with demand. If those workers were working in California on over time they would be between $30-40 per hour lol..Those numbers are also before workers comp, insurance, lawyer fees, lawsuits, disability pay, injury pay, etc.. One lawsuit could be hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions of dollars. One fine for the company by the government could even be millions of dollars. In America those numbers and expenses are endless where in China that is just one number baked into the cost of the phone.
