Apple paid them dumdum. Additionally people don't want this in THEIR device. It was completely forced.

Let me rephrase as apparently my post was too 'dum dum' for you. YOU got it for free. It's not IN YOUR device. It's IN THE CLOUD unless you download it. If it is IN YOUR device, then you downloaded/have auto download on, in which case, turn it off! Technology, brain, you hurt?

Actually, for those who have automatic downloads turned on, it was forced upon.

Ahh... there's the issue, I think.

*Agree to have content auto-downloaded to your device
*Get upset when something you don't want is auto-downloaded

I am an "old" so U2 actually was after my time*, not before it. I never heard U2 before the free album and actually found that I like it. Thank you Apple and U2!

*my teen and twenties years

Not a fan of U2..... expect for about 3 songs from the 90's, I gave-in and was rather surprised by how good the album was and I actually -Like- most the songs. Someone else and I would probably be bitching.

Those are two completely separate issues.

Yes, I agree to have content that I purchase auto-downloaded to my device.

No, I do not agree to have content that I did not purchase auto-downloaded to my device.

Actually no, it would still show up in my library as a stream option that I couldn't remove and when I shuffled my music it would play. And why should I turn off that feature for the music i do want streamed? Your solution is half assed like your argument.

No no no no! What the hell did they buy Dr.Dre for? Have Dre do all the music and get him to get Eminem to do some music. YES EMINEM I WANT APPLE TO WORK WITH HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what you want, and I'm sure there's millions others who agree, but I don't. I want neither Eminem nor U2 on my iPhone.

I can't think of any single song that even 80% of people wouldn't mind having on their device.

For those who think this isn't a big deal at all and people are just whiners, let's imagine this hypothetical situation.

Let's say Apple purchased Snapchat for two billion dollars. In order to make that purchase worth it, they want all iPhone and iPad users to start using it. So, they push the app onto everyone's device.

Would this be a problem, or would you simply shrug it off and say it's not a big deal?

My mum would call these whiners 'ungrateful children'. I along with millions of other folks say 'Thanks Bono, you're a gent, see you on the road"...

Sheesh you just can't do something nice for some people... What miserable lives they must lead!

I think some of you guys are missing the point. In the age of Snowden, the NSA, privacy violations everywhere.. people are very sensitive about their freedoms.

The move to auto download the music upset so many people not because they didn't want the album, but because it was placed on their personal, private devices without their permission. The iPhone has become very important to many people because it's a major way that we communicate and interact with our world and with each other. It's with us all the time and to do things on it without our permission feels like a violation. If you make us feel like our phones aren't in our control but instead can be forced to perform tasks by signals from a distant corporation, that's scary.

I'm sorry, but even if it's free, you still need to ask.

You know that free 10 pound phone book that gets thrown on your doorstep every year whether you like it or not that you have to pick up and dispose of yourself? Pain in the @ss isn't it?

U2 is that phone book.

Congratulations, America. You've forced an apology from someone who gave you something for FREE.

Well mine didn't download directly and I had to cheat a bit for the download to start...

Some great songs in the album, and I give my thanks to U2 (and Apple? somebody had to pay I guess ^^)

Mine never downloaded directly. So I don't understand all the fuss. I never clicked a download button from iTunes. So the ONLY place I can access it is from the iTunes streaming server under "Purchased" music. It was never downloaded directly/locally to my Mac's HD.

I think the problem was that millions of the complainers are the ones that had the "Automatically Download" purchased music enabled.

I don't think its really U2's fault. Apple should have said "Your out of your damn mind." And made it a free download through iTunes. Not an automatic download.

Agreed. Of course it was "successful", it happened unilaterally. I found it on my phone. I haven't listened but I pretty much gave up on them after Unforgettable Fire, as they devolved from self-important alt-rock to self-important disco-pop. And as Bono's douchiness exponentiated.

It would probably go in the same folder as stocks and voice memo etc

They both wanted to do this. Bono seems pretty classy to suggest that they (U2) had this idea, and as if he brought about the whole thing. I think Apple had came up with idea long ago and probably threw it out there to more than a few artists. U2 is the band that made a deal with the idea. It's the power of forcing something on to someone. Maybe a trial just to see what they can get away with. Probably didn't cost them s much as people think. BTW, I don't mind the album.

Really now. You wouldn't feel slighted in the least that an app from a company that you may not support suddenly found its way to your device because of a purchasing deal Apple is involved with?

Something tells me many people would have a problem with this.

The problem isn't that it was downloaded without permission its that it was U2 and they're not relevant anymore
