I think I can confidently say that these are not heat-related either - mine was apparent straight out of the box. If anything, the longer it's used the more apparent it becomes.

As others may have done so, I would recommend downloading a flashlight app to be able to see how bad it really is. I was worried the Apple staff at the store might laugh at me and say there is nothing there as can be a little hard to make out in regular use - but the discoloration is plain to see when I use the app.

I'm going to swing by the store this evening after work and hopefully the hoopla has died down a bit, and given the supposed stock levels, hoping they will be able to replace it then and there. Hell, not hoping, they HAVE to. You don't pay top dollar for defects like this.

It has to be a little heat related if it gets worse with long usage. Mine isn't that apparent until I have been using it for about 3-5 minutes. At that point the whole right side (by the home button) in landscape view is yellowed.

Mine is the UPPER LEFT. I don't think many people are looking there, but it's there! It's hard to notice, so I don't think many people will. Most apps hide the discoloration well, except white.

I looked mine up and down using the AppBox Flashlight app to turn my screen solid colors...white, black, yellow, blue, etc.

Under fluorescent lights, if I turn my phone to the left or right at an angle, I can see a slight rainbow pattern across the surface, but looking right at it, it looks perfect.

I just boarded the train for downtown a few mins ago and while I stood out in the direct sunlight, tried to find these yellow spots again.

Nothing, looks fine to me.

I noticed a yellow dot on my iphone on the lower right after playing with it when I first got it; then looked on here and saw the problem; I made a genius appointment on Saturday, if nothing else so they know the problem; don't think I can get a replacement so early in the game; when I woke up this morning the yellow dot seemed to be gone; but then after use again it returned.

IMO it seems to be some kind of heat issue........

Great i just had to see this story on Engadget, then come here all while i pick up my phone from ATT today.

Seeing as i bought the iPhone from ATT, could i still take it to the genius bar and would they be able to replace it on the spot (I'm not asking if they will, i just want to know if they are allowed to replace the phone seeing as i bought from ATT.)

When I activated my iPhone 4 yesterday I had noticed a yellow spot on the bottom left corner that I had no problem seeing. Today I dont see it. I ran the slingplayer app and had tomtom going to heat my phone up to see if it would show up but nothing has. If it were a heat issue why would it show up when I first turned on my phone? Ill keep checking today to see if it comes back. Im not to sure how they put the phone together or how long ago but could it be some sort of adhesive that has not dried completely?

I read the adhesive story too and I wish that was the case, however it is obviously heat related here: it was fine this morning and now, after a good 20 minutes of browsing/ playing around the yellow spot is back. I will keep on checking throughout the day to see if it improves but no signs of that yet... I have a genius appointment tomorrow regardless.

What if the heat makes the undried adhesive stand out instead of being all heat. If this yellowing was only a result of heating issues then shouldn't all the screens have the same effects. What i mean some people have it going all the way across the bottom of the screen, while other people have blotches, some people have it on the top edge. If this was only heat, shouldn't all these effects be the same since the components producing the heat are in the same place in every iPhone.

you make a valid point...i really don't know what it could be and i sure hope it's the adhesive issue...
All i can see is that they're not there after i leave my phone alone for a while, and come back after a bit of usage.
And yes, i have my yellow spot on the top , middle left o f the screen, so you are right in noticing they seem to appear in different places....odd!

Well the good news is that we will know after a few days.

A pic of mine, it is a whole yellow line at the bottom of the screen. Use iBooks to check yours as it is clearly visible with the white background.

Using a flashlight app and using a light gray screen is even better.

As for heat, at least w/ the unit I just returned, I had no yellow when the phone was cool; had not been used for awhile. But after a long phone call or YouTube video it would light up like a Vegas casino sign.

I seem to have a perfect one, Haven't found no problem so far, the screen looks all even and........ohh wait it's the iPhone 4!...ahh damn i've got the iPhone 3G.

Well i guess i'll have to wait until december, me and my MultiTaskingless, Home Screen Walpaperless, LED flashless iPhone 3G. At least my battery time has improved :D

Good luck to all iPhone 4 users and future owners.

This brings back good old times, with the endless threads about the new iMac yellowing.

HEY!! is there any site to report a faulty iPhone 4 yet?

I'm not sure if this was posted yet since I haven't gone through all of the messages since early yesterday. I found an article about it that says it might fix itself after it dries up.

i hope this is true. we'll find out soon. got my iPhone 4 yesterday and i have the yellow banding issue across the bottom of my screen. it seems to go away when it's cooled down. hopefully this is the case.

I got my phone from ebay, im picking it up tomorrow. If mine develops the yellow screen issue and it doesnt go away after time what will i need to get it replaced, or will i have the hastle of having to contact the seller and getting them to do it? couldnt i just get the receipt or something from them? the seller had it delivered by the way.

Yeah I'll wait and see what happens if I get it I'll hold it for a week for others to get them and then I'll take it back if nothing changes. Still 2hrs until I have my BB appointment so no idea if I'm going to have the same problem.

im sure apple will accomodate you since it has 1 yr warranty from apple and probably just give you a new one or a refurb.

I think you nailed it at the end. :)
