On a more serious note, could Apple be anticipating staff shortages next year?
Exactly my thought. It's not easy to get a skilled worker at the moment in England. Maybe they just focusing on single people without family relations....
It reminds me Chinese companies approach although I think they could be covered by seasonal temp staff.
After recent visit in one of the UK stores in Basingstoke I have seen a chaos on the floor with all appointments delayed. I would think how to make staff (and customer) experience more welcome. Maybe extra salary bonus for work during Christmas holiday

People have only just recently bought the iphone 14 and now Apple is planning to release and iphone 15 next year!! Is this Apples new goal, a iphone released every year?

So I think there's a couple of points here:
- Clearly there were too many holidays booked during this period this year, causing staff shortages in the UK, and they want to avoid that next year. Potentially multiple outlets messed up their holiday planning, but the Milton Keynes store is also very very small.
- It is normal for retail employees in the UK to be denied holiday requests in December.

I don't think it's any more exciting or sinister than that.

They still think it's a request? Funny. I don't ask for time off, I'm just polite enough to tell you when I won't be in. ;)

I guarantee the average user would just be annoyed by needing another new cable.

You just know what is going to happen dont you. People will throw away some of their usb-c cables because they have too many of them, they will come to purchase a new macbook where the documentation will say 'does not come supplied with usb-c cable, you must use one of your own existing cables'. Then they will complain that they have to go out and purchase a usb-c cable because they threw too many out and now need one for the mac and moan as to why Apple did not include a usb-c cable with the mac.

Between the rumors of redesign, USB-C, periscope camera, and 8GB of RAM, I wouldn't doubt the 15 Pro/Pro Max will be hugely popular. I can't wait for the 15 Pro Max.

You would be surprised how many people still don’t know that. It always comes as a shock to them when I tell them to wait another week before upgrading around September when talking to friends
I just laugh when people get the current one the day before. You could have at least saved $100 on that one

We're back to MagSafe chargers for Macs but they should save the USB-C cables for everything else. MagSafe chargers are the one and only thing I'm glad Apple reverted on.

This article has had the interesting effect of dividing commenters into roughly two groups:

1. "I wonder what is going to be released!"

2. "Kind of terrible for Apple to treat its employees this way."

It's like the "which do you see – an old lady, or a young lady" image.

Nerds on internet forums do, I’m not sure the rest of the world knows/cares/understands.

Everyone cares as soon as they realise their device has a proprietary connector that their charger cable doesn't fit, or they packed the wrong cable for their device, or they need to buy/pack extra cables just because some of their devices have an incompatible proprietary connector.

Proprietary connectors harm consumers even if they don't realise it.
