I will be paying my respects.

Those that don't want to take a paid day off work can watch Netflix, do the garden or whatever they wish to do, if they don't get the day off, they can take one off in lieu.

No one is forced to watch the funeral or go and cry on a parade like they have to in North Korea on pain of death or being taken to a work camp if they don't cry with enough gusto.

Just do what you want to do on your paid day off.

As is case for all UK bank holidays. Usually if company stays open, employees get a days holiday in lieu to use whenever.
Except, as far as I can tell, much like with the jubilee, they're not actually increasing the mandatory total days of leave for the year. So companies are completely allowed to not give any time in lieu for people working the bank holiday.

I think it was our best by a Canadian YouTuber. “I care as little about the royal family as any other stranger”. I never met the queen of England, she wasn’t my gran, she had no impact on my life in the slightest. I’ll be working Monday, I don’t need a extra bloody holiday and I’ll get paid the same ether way.

The number of people acting like someone close to them has died is staggering. I could understand a celebrity that had some impact on inspiring you to do better, but even then, it is a one sided relationship with a stranger.

This isn’t exactly a standard “bank holiday” in the UK. Businesses can decide if they are closed or open. If the business is closed, it’s a mandatory day off from your annual leave allowance for staff.

Shows how clueless that Canadian was then, considering they are in the Commonwealth yet the monarchy has no impact on their lives? Apart from the trade routes between Commonwealth countries and the riches that bought.

Ah no it's officially a bank holiday now.

For me, one of the purposes of the period of mourning is it gives a friendly hint to those people who, otherwise tone deaf, always feel obliged to share their own opinion. That subtle hint being that this is actually the time to ST*U and show some respect. Come back in a few days time, your opinion is unlikely to have changed and we’ll all still be here keen to lap up your wisdom.

No it isn't a standard one. I have received communication now and have been advised we have the day off, but they stated they are not under any obligation to suspend business during the mourning period. It seems to be a different bank holiday in legal terms to say Christmas Day.
Regardless I shall watch on my television and show my respects for what she has achieved.

I suspect many businesses will allow staff the day off like any other bank holiday, and those who work bank holidays will still work if required.

Also very happy to see the moderators at work. Some posts have been down right insulting, their is a way to present your opinion and a way not to.

Looking on the BBC you'd think the whole country had come to a standstill - there's no balancing view.
The BBC are going to have to go very careful as they're already starting to exhaust the patience of even the most committed monarchist.

Mind you, I suspect they're aware of this. The trouble is, they're absolutely petrified of being attacked by the right wing press as insufficiently respectful, so will keep it up until this period is over. I suspect next time around, when Charlie boy goes, the coverage could be more pared back. That's assuming the BBC is even around by then.

I will get this in solidarity with the queen:
