At my work we’ve decided to honour Her Majesty by taking the bank holiday in addition to our normal holiday entitlement .

Going forward I am not entirely sure if this is a one -off or an annual UK bank holiday

The BBC are going to have to go very careful as they're already starting to exhaust the patience of even the most committed monarchist.

Mind you, I suspect they're aware of this. The trouble is, they're absolutely petrified of being attacked by the right wing press as insufficiently respectful, so will keep it up until this period is over. I suspect next time around, when Charlie boy goes, the coverage could be more pared back. That's assuming the BBC is even around by then.
To be honest, I'm good with it up to the point where Elton John decides to write a song.

It’s a one-off extra bank holiday this year at this stage. I don’t think they’ll give us extra bank holidays, more likely to move a bank holiday instead.

There have been suggestions about moving one of the spring bank holidays previously. This is to prevent the large gap between August and Christmas, but I don’t think they’ve ever been anything more than mentions.

I didn’t know the Queen, only knew what the media told me about her — only familiar with the façade that was presented to us. For all I know, she was an actress playing a role.

I don’t mourn her passing. She lived a long life and lived with more amenities than most people can imagine.

For some and maybe a lot of people, she’s been a figurehead. More respectable than current politicians.

Yes! An ambassador for our country when world leaders came to visit.

I'm not a Royalist but I do have enormous respect for the work she did for this country. A special 'old lady' that served her county right up until the week of her passing when she was clearly in ill health.

There has been talk of a new holiday between August and Christmas as well. Apparently we have a low amount of bank holidays compared to many other nations, however in comparison to the USA and Canada, we have a larger amount of annual leave, although I believe it is on par or lacks behind some European countries.

I believe next year we will get another additional bank holiday for the kings coronation. I doubt we will get an annual bank holiday for either the queens death, or kings coronation.

If we were to get an additional bank holiday, I hope it’s not for any specific historic event, but they just pick and date and call it like ‘workers day’ or ‘citizens day’ and just dedicate it to the people.
