For the 1st time since I've been with the new ATT I'm up for early renewal on February 28th. My current contract expires June 26th. I guess iPad and IPhone competition has made AT&T more flexible on contracts.

For the iPhone 4 launch they forgave me about 4 months so I could buy an iPhone 4 pre-launch. AT&T has always been very flexible for me.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I have been waiting for the upgrade sooooo long to come, hopefully it will come pretty soon

of course the UK won't get ipad2 shipments till 3-4 months after the US release, so enjoy buying old technology!! The Apple way...

Any hope we could get the IPad2 this week at the same time as the MBPs??? I have a MBP and am happy with it - just waiting on the new IPads and it seems likes it taking forever for them to make their appearance!!!

I'd be all over a deal like this in the US. I'd never pay full retail for an iPad but 100 bucks and a data deal sounds pretty darn good to me.

The total cost of that "deal" for new customers is still £747, which equates to $1,211 including taxes, or $1009 before tax. Doesn't look that good compared to the RRP of the iPad at $629

OK, so you're getting data included, but it's only 2GB a month split between 1GB peak and 1GB off-peak so it's not that great, and you can simply tether your iPad to your phone anyway so you don't have to pay twice for data (and as soon as 4.3 is released, you can do it without any jailbreaking)

I think the prices before the reduction were little short of a complete rip-off to be honest

I see your point and expected somebody to say something. However, if I were going to get an iPad it would have to be the 3G capable one, which would then force me to get a data plan anyways so why not subsidize part of the cost through my carrier. I get that its basically paying an installment plan for it but in the end you would still do alright.

Interesting. Most people are quick to point out how cheap the phone service is the what mr. Chaney calls the "Old World". No contracts and the such, but apparently they've adopted the US cellular model for the iPad while the US companies use the European cellular model for the iPad.

Would probably be worth noting that t-mobile and orange are now, or will be very shortly 1 company.

Which may make this less significant. As oppose to orange and 02 slashing prices.

Buy iPad on this plan.
Sell for £299 to someone who just wants an iPad
Keep sim
buy new iPad at discounted rate using profit from sale.
Insert sim from 1st iPad into 2nd gen iPad.

^Is this a solid plan?^

I'm pretty excited for the iPad 2, even if the rumours are that it won't be a massive upgrade until towards the end of this year.

Both at the same time with LightPeak on them being the "One more thing". Pity there isn't a press conference scheduled:eek:

I hope it plays 8-Track tapes...please let it play 8-Track tapes.

I wouldn't get too excited about the price "cuts" -- as with the original launch, the UK will probably not get iPad2 same time as the USA.

The big carriers are just greedy and have priced themselves out of the market -- sales of iPad in the UK would be much higher if the networks were more reasonable. Who wants to pay £25pm to Orange, T-Mobile or O2 on a two-year contract when the 3 network was offering 10GB for £15pm without tying one to a fixed contract?

Data on both O2 & Orange (using iPhone) absolutely sucks, whereas my iPad on 3 has 4-5 bars everywhere I go.

The networks probably ordered too many iPads and are going to find themselves stuck with unsaleable stock...

Why would that be? I expect the iPad 2 to be available everywhere the iPad is available now at the same time.

I hope Apple sales iPad1 for 400US$ and iPad2 for 500US$, wifi models

I predict that iPad 1 will disappear completely from the stores. Apple will have some amount of iPads to be leftover when they switch, but they will use them to replace iPads that are broken during the warranty period. When Apple runs out of iPads 1, customers with an iPad 1 that needs repair during the warranty period will receive an iPad 2. (When the iPad 2 is released, the iPad 1 will be worth less, but it won't be cheaper to build).

Is it that bad a deal ?

Twenty four months at £25 + £100 up front = £725.
To buy outright would be £541. So getting data for £8 a month. Interest on loan for remaining amount (£441) would be an extra cost too. Doesn't seem that bad. If Three reduce to £100 with 10Gb data/month would be interested.

The danish retail store in Denmark "Humac" is also lowering their prices on the iPad now...;)

I know. I just got one on my birthday... (64GB wifi/3G) should i return it??? Damn i want to break the seal...

Cool

I already have the last gen MBP, but I don't have an iPad. This might be something I actually buy!

(and if I do, they better not release a new one in September)
