Wait until they realize they don’t need to ask for a ton of backdoors or changes in encryption mechanisms. All they need is a root certificate deployed on any UK sold phone and tap everything inside the carriers and service providers, just like any enterprise does…

Better yet, wait until they do what the US government does and just buy it from third-party data brokers for next to nothing.

I used to think living in the UK could be cool, but with their surveillance state, penalizing people for saying things in social media, and other insanity I no longer think that. Evidently living in the UK means the government deserves access to everything about you. I am not one who believes in the "If you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about argument".

The UK is essentially a surveillance state now, and with Starmer trying to make this digital ID a thing it’s just getting worse and worse.

Be well, my UK cousins.

British citizens in the UK are basically a herd of slaves. With the UK Gov controlling that herd more and more tightly......

Londonistan is a Fitting name!

It's easy to write things like this, without direct experience, but it's really not like this in the UK.

However, there most definitely are certain individuals – who want power, money, or both – who are painting pictures of UK daily life that is a fiction (such as supposed crimewaves driven by immigrants).

Would be a shame if someone started a... Revolution perhaps?

What you gonna achieve?

Let say if you start a revolution, the next day Government will invoke emergency measure, and guess what they will take away any remaining rights and freedom.

You just hand over everything to the government, that’s exactly what they want.

Any what are you chances to get major consensus from general population over this? Nobody wants start revolution and plunge country into chaos with this m? Without general consensus, you won’t be successful

Just geo-block the Brits already. It's not like they are the EU and actually matter.
Now lookup EU’s Chatcontrol…

Even worse than any of UK’s attempts.

But most brits know what is coming and moving things out of iCloud to local hosted - which should have been done long ago anyway. VPN’s and NAS’s are selling like hotcakes.

Nobody should rely on iCloud or any other HOSTED paid for storage platform.

When is Apple going to fight back? They already told the FBI (and, essentially, the US gov't) to go away, so why can't they just refuse to comply with this? Will there be a court order? If so, when will it be enough for Apple?

Do you really think a corporation is going to be able to tell governments to go away in perpetuity?

Apple, Tim specifically, as with Jensen have proven adept in combating the nonsense coming from Europe. Paying bribes and kissing the ring for protection has been a proven strategy throughout time.

Boy, the next decade sure will be interesting…

You need to take a chill pill! It was never about public health, the government didn't even follow their own rules!

It was about public health, the leaders just didn't like it and chose to break their own rules.

I'm a healthcare worker, and at the time of Covid, worked bedside with patients. My job would have been a lot easier and lot less people would have been suffering if people did follow the rules, but like a lot of our "leaders", it's rules for thee, not for me...even if they do help.

As an English person this is depressing. Governments use guises such as terrorism and child abuse as fallacies to force their real (unspoken) agendas of control, such as this.

I hope apple fight back and win. The UK government should be ashamed of themselves, we may as well be communists at this stage.

Just how I feel about Apple wielding terms like "security and privacy" to justify and defend their excessive cut of all revenue flowing across iOS/iPadOS.

There are no white knights here.

A back door for the UK will become a back door for every country that collaborates with the UK when it comes to intelligence. No government can resist access to all that juicy data. “Hey, UK. You guys have access to this. Take a peak for us, eh?”. Of COURSE they will. I guarantee it. No doubt in my mind.

Apple should do everything and anything they have to to avoid putting back doors into iCloud user data. Even if it meant not providing iCloud services in the UK anymore.

If they do it for the UK, eventually every country that wants it will have access to it.

Only winning move is not to play. Apple needs to stand firm on this.

My data is super boring. My life is super boring. But that doesn’t mean I want the government to have access to my data.

They have been a surveillance state since before the London bombing. I remember going on a school trip to London in 2005 and I was " amazed" by the amount of CCTV literally everywhere

A private conversation today means being in a place with NO electricity, no always listening Apple gear within a quarter mile, and in a structure where sound does not vibrate the outer surface and to viable way for lip reading from the exterior.

Any written notes must be shredded into fine bits and blended with sand in a blender that is poured into concrete.

All doable, right?

Orwell was spot on in his "1984" written in Burma decades ago. Even down to the television monitoring his exercise and him getting corrections on style.

Remember, there is no such thing as a deleted email. NAS has all the backups you will ever need:eek:

It’s not just the UK. The European Union is about to do the same thing with “ChatControl”. It will require mass scanning of private communications, including encrypted conversations.

The fact that this is happening simultaneously in the UK and the EU ( and it looks like Australia is about to do the same as well ) can’t be coincidence, but rather a coordinated movement from various governments around the world.
