[UK] I want to buy an iPhone 5 on launch day - How should I go about it?

Where are you coming from?

I wasn't going to do an in store pick up, I was just going to order online and have it delivered on release day.

Now you've got me thinking again! :D

....yea same here - was gonna call up O2 and pre-order it and hopefully get it sent to me on release day! Wonder whether that would actually be quicker than queuing up in store?!

I would be coming from Croydon.......!!!

I think last year pre-orders were from 8AM on the Friday after the press event, but whether this year will be the same who knows!

Im with Vodafone and am 1 month into my 2month upgrade period with them. Will the apple store be able to handle my upgrade online when pre orders go live or am I better going with the Vodafone website for my pre order?

Would buy outright to avoid this hassle, but dont have the upfront £££ to do this!

Think I'll get up earlier this Friday! There's no way I'm getting up at 4am on launch day to stand outside a shopping centre!I'm getting too old!
 
im actualy really torn between queueing up on release day and pre ordering.

on one hand i think pre ordering is the safest option, i cant help but think that the courier companies will mess up. On the other hand if i queue up its kinda all in my hands, but then again there is the chance that i cant get one if they sell out.

Would be good if i could pre order to my local store that way i know im set!

Never done this before so i have no prior experiance to call upon, suppose ill just go with my gut!

Oh and in responce to the OP - I will never ever ever touch " 3 " ever again... the worst customer service i have ever received ..... ever!

Aus is about a year behind the rest of the world, so next June earliest :rolleyes:

The MK store may not be that busy! I went Lakeside in Essex last year and that was painful, Regent Street the year before, but they had pre orders!

A mate went to Cambridge and said it was pretty painless!

Yea im coming around to the idea of pre-ordering for colection in store.. and then queuing up first thing so i get one either which way.

wouldnt be to bothered normally but my 3GS fell in the bath and is in a bit of a state!

For the 4S they didn't off pre order for collection. it was turn up and first come first served.
 
Ahhh ok I didnt know this... Back to square one :) does anyone who has pre ordered before know if you can track your delivery?
 
I'm just gonna call O2 Thursday morning and pre-order one (assuming they are taking pre-orders by then) and hopefully get it delivered on launch day.

As some other poster put it - I think I am now 'too old' to wake up at 'silly' o clock to go and stand outside a shopping centre in the cold and queue for hours (although thats exactly what I did for my iPhone 4..!!!!:rolleyes:)

THinking back to how I got my iPhone 3G - I was working up in London and remember walking to work, on release day, and seeing loads of people queuing up outside O2 shops and CPW and I was like, 'they got no chance'...!!! I got to work, picked up the phone and called O2 and managed to get one straight away.....!! So much for queuing up....!!

Yes you can but the amount/accuracy of the tracking information depends on where it comes from.

The New iPad (3) was shipped from the UK using a massive logistics company (the name escapes me right now) and the tracking information only updated the day before delivery.
 
I'm going to head to all my local phone shops on Thursday morning and see what they're saying to it. I managed to pre-order my iPhone 4 at Phones4U, as they were the only ones doing it. If not, I might just have to get there early on launch day.

Apologies, I was referring to the network 3 rather than 02, which would make sense that they can do that instore as they did launch the iPhone with 02, way, way back.
