for the people that bought the 4 and 4s around release time:

what are the chances of the iPhone 5 running out?

I'm planning on buying a 64GB model to replace my 16GB 4 but The earliest ill be able to order it on is on the 24th. do you think it'll run out of stock by then? prefer delivery or pre order and pick up. don't want to queue.

Hmm. Anyone know if you can preorder the iPhone in all countries with an Apple Store? They're about to open their first one in Sweden (on Saturday or something), and since I'm gonna grab one without a contract, it would be much nicer to just preorder it online and have it delivered on the release day. But maybe that's only available for countries which are in the first release wave?

So maybe the question should be: are all countries with an Apple Store in the first wave or has it always been US, UK, Japan and so on... ?

You have to have your country part of the first wave

I think thats normally, US, UK, Germany, Japan Aus and something i am missing

I don't think that the presence of an Apple store has any impact on launch dates for a particular country. Spain has had a physical store since 2010 but is still on the second wave of releases.

You forgot Canada... :D

1st wave was USA, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany and Japan.

2nd wave was Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The most recent launch (new iPad) started in:

US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and the UK; along with Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands

Second: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden

Stock will never 'run out' if you are ordering online. But obviously you will have to wait longer. Do apple take payment at time of purchase or once shipped? If it's once shipped and the shipping date is after the 24th, then you're golden!

They take payment once it ships. They do an authorisation charge though if it's a credit card, and they take the amount if it's a debit card - though this varies, I've seen them take money, put it back in and make a mess on my itemised statement.

Apologies, I was referring to the network 3 rather than 02, which would make sense that they can do that instore as they did launch the iPhone with 02, way, way back.

Pretty sure 3 must be the only one then, because you can sign up with Orange and Vodafone in the Apple Store too.

Ugh - 8AM pre-orders? Why can't we do 3AM pre-orders like America?

I have to be on the way to College at 8 x)

That means to get one I'll have to rely on my dad to sit there and go through the whole process. He'll either get bored after refreshing 20 times and piss off, thus making me wait 3 weeks or he'll order a white one instead of a black one just to wind me up.

I hate my family.

Additionally, for those who are wondering, I think it was early morning pre-order for the 4S last year and it ended up (by 10 AM) taking 2-3 weeks as opposed to the 1 week (pre-order standard time (on time for launch day)) that it was approximately 1-2 hours before hand.

So yes, most stock will be taken up by the morning of the 14th.

UNLESS of course Apple have increased their online stock :)

I've been considering a move from O2 to T mobile, but i'm the 3-4 years i've been with O2, touch wood, i've not had a single issue!

So if I want to order from the Apple store and reserve for pick up from my nearest Apple store, does the online store allow me to do this? If I reserve a phone for pickup, does it allow me to state which store I want to reserve with

This typically isn't available for new product launches (iPhone 4 was the last time they allowed it) - you can either pre-order for delivery or queue up at the store.

I just spoke to the Apple Store in Bath and they said that they are pretty sure that you will be able to reserve on line and pick up from the store.

I queued last year, planning to order online this time, partially because I've done the queuing thing, partially because I'm not near an Apple Store for this launch.

If that is the case then I'll go for that option as I always manage to miss my launch day deliveries and have to go driving on Saturday morning to some far-flung courier depot, like UPS in Tamworth. However, this wasn't available for the 4s or iPad 3, or when I got my latest MBP in March 2011.

We will find out in a few hours in any case.

A question for those of you that have pre ordered before. Do the networks (I'm with O2 but out of contract) get their info up pretty quickly or do pre orders through apple start before you even know what's going on with your particular network?

Don't want to wait for O2 to then find out I'd have been better off ordering from Apple but be too late ordering from them to get it on release day!

O2 didn't do pre orders last year for the 4S, and they were also the last network to release their tariff's for the 4S. That contributed to my decision to leave O2 and buy the phone from apple.

thanks, just the info I was after. looks like unless O2 get their act together before Apple start pre-orders I'll be ordering direct from Apple.

Here's the smart answer for sure: preorder for US store pickup, book a flight, and pick up on launch door after a long line and flight. Relax knowing you just spent thousands to do all this but at the very least enjoy the iPhone 5 in your hands without the risk of waiting.

Soo....
I have an iPhone 4 which is out of contract with Orange. If it looks as though it will be cheaper to buy direct from Apple I will do that an go onto Pay as you Go, again with Orange. How do I keep my number? If I remember I need to give 4 weeks notice?
