I don't really...just a guesstimating because I ordered on the day of launch from Apple

You can tell from the week number of the serial. For example, the rMini I purchased in store last Wednesday is a week 43 (October) and therefore probably one of the earliest. It suffers from yellowing.

My replacement from the online store is a week 49 (November, and actually made yesterday) and should be here tomorrow.

Please report back with your findings when you get the new one

My replacement 128gb cellular rMini arrived this morning from China (ordered 4 days ago). It's a week 47 production, there's very slight yellowing at the bottom of the screen much like my first one (returned because of diagnostics failure, not screen).

Given that the colour saturation (softness) is different from my other iPads (Air, Mini) I'm not too bothered by the very slight yellowing so it's a keeper. I do have AppleCare+ so if it becomes a problem after usage / over time I can always exchange it.

Apart from that it's a nice bit of kit!

:)

Week 48 looks good

Hi
Just had rMini 128 wifi + cellular delivered. The whole screen is a much yellower white than the original mini but not in a bad way actually. The text is so much easier to read (yup, I'm at that age!)
Loving it so far, now I just have to wait for my restore to finish.
:)

PS It is blazing fast compared to the old Mini too!!!

First 5 of serial?

Indeed you're right but i already deleted my original mini from my profile. It was definitely an Oct model though.

My third rMini has arrived. Lovely even screen colour. And I thought at last. But nope. Debris under the screen on this one. The first time for an rMini. Oh dear or dear oh dear Apple.

How come everyone else can manage to make decent screens and you can't? Is it a scale thing. Is the Apple manufacturing process just to big to control properly?

Oh and it failed the image retention test too. Sigh.

I think AppleCare+ and an exchange next year is in order for most of us.

i got DMPL week 46 (november) Air, and the screen is perfect!!! My Ipad 2 screen looks soo yellow next to it,and with quite a few backlight bleeding, and i didnt even noticed that while using it in the last 3 years :D

I think most people would accept a tinted screen if it was uniform. It's the half a tinted screen that's an issue.

It's okay, just like the bumpers for Antenna-gate, Apple will surely give us all a pair of gradient tinted glasses to cancel out the uneven screens?

I got sick of waiting for my retina mini to come so picked one up from the apple store in Leicester oblast Friday. No issues with mine at all. My screen is perfect and so bright

I admit when it was dark and I opened an app that was very white I immediately thought 'woah, that's not as white as white can be'.

Thankfully I don't really mind and I love the rMini! :D

Got my replacement rMini delivered just now.... It's awesome! No yellowing, screen is brighter and whiter. Very happy chappy.

What's bizarre is that it's a different serial to what I was expecting ... Week 48 DLXLR

Excellent. Well done. I'm close to giving up the hunt. My replacement would have been the same had it not had some crap under the screen this time. Sigh.

Is the crap really noticeable? Can you deal with it for 6 months and then swap out? I appreciate you shouldn't have to, but once the screen gets dusty and covered with fingerprints, would you notice it? Just saying as yours sounds good apart from that.

It's bottom right of the screen - which is unfortunately where there will be any white space if there is any on the screen generally. And bizarrely more noticeable at less bright screens.

Against my better judgement I'm trying one last time from John Lewis and after that I'll give up. I guess you're right but at the moment, I don't feel like paying for something substandard.

Fingers crossed. Did JL have stock?

I bought my original retina mini from John Lewis and it had the most yellow, uneven screen I've ever seen on any Apple product. It was so bad that I was extremely reluctant to use it whilst I had it. It was a week 43 build.

I didn't want to return it to John Lewis because I managed to get the £30 refund from them, so I went to the Apple store and they had to order it in for me.

I picked up my replacement from the Apple store yesterday (after waiting just over a week for it). It's also a week 43 build. I'm pleased to say that it's much less yellow and much more even. However, it is still yellow. But I can live with it since it's even.

I'm in the same boat, got mine from JL with the price match but thinking of returning due to the yellow screen near the home button. Did the Apple store take your existing one before they ordered the replacement ? I mean , were you able to test the new one before you gave up the old one?
