Had a bit of time with my replacement now.

The big plus over my first one - no ever present green line down the centre, bonus!

Can't detect any yellowing so far - if it's there, I can't see it, which is good enough for me - no bleed, not checked for image retention yet, but I get the strong impression it's a keeper.

Oh, it's DLXL, so Sharp presumably.

I ordered two rMinis online from Currys last Saturday and picked them up on Tuesday morning. £30 off each. Both perfect.

I actually meant the 128gb wifi/cellular version from apple online :)

No other stores have them yet! (Would be delighted to be told otherwise!)

I got a silver 128 wifi/cellular yesterday on reservation and pickup at my local apple store.

Unfortunately, yellowing.

So now I've had a proper look at it;

There's a yellow spot on the lower left corner, a slight backlight bleed in two corners and image retention is pretty bad at 5minutes with less than half brightness. Such a shame, it's a lovely bit of kit. :(

The backlight bleed and image retention won't appear in normal use tho surely?

The yellow spot is only slight and the backlight bleeding isn't too noticeable. The image retention might be a problem though. I use my iPad to view a lot of papers and results. I often leave them on the screen for more than 5 mins.
Also how embarrassing would it be if I go to show my boss a paper and I have the icons from GTA vice city showing on the document?

Ok - 'dispatched' at last!!

Should be delivered by end of Monday (as always, within Apples stated timeframe). It's tracking from China so the initial stock they had at places in UK is gone.

Can't wait can't wait! Been so frustrating seeing plentiful stock of the wifi only models! lol

You'll probably get a newer model than us then. Tell us how it is. ;)

It seems ever since the mini came out, it is more popular than fullz size ipads even the air. Anyone else agree?

Even though the air has a better screen

Disagree, i think Air is by far the most popular Ipad here. remember last year Ipad mini original was also well behing Ipad 4, sales wise :)

Really? Wonder why.

Why dp you think more people want the air now over mini?

Cant say for sure, i think its just a bigger screen makes the difference. Also better screen on air ( gamut ) playing the role now.
Anyway, im getting Air myself :)

My 2c

I'd also say sense of value. The iPad Air is not much more than the iPad rMini in the UK. People perceive the Air as a more of a bargain.

I know. Every time I look at it I think it's awesome. But these screen issues suck.

If it's still bothering me in January I'm going to swap it over. I have the apple support transcript saying that it's okay to do so. :)

Edit - actually it does bother me now. I did the IR test and after only 60s I get the checkers sticking. I expect more for £500.

The first one I had had bad IR. The second none but bad yellowing at the bottom left. Both had the same serial first four. I have a final attempt en route from Shenzhen. If it's got either it goes back and I stick with my Kindle Fire HDX with its blue bleed. It's a great piece of kit for £200.

This lottery is hard to win isn't it.

Went to my local Apple Store in Birmingham. They had plenty of rMini's in stock. "Reservation only", yet I had it within 3 minutes, guy said hundreds in stock apart from the 64GB wifi/cellular.
