I've got the same dilemma. I have Apple delivering on Friday and Amazon (hopefully) delivering on Saturday... I was going to not open the Apple one at all and just return it boxed but it doesn't seem like they care either way?

I should probably mention, this is my wife's phone so it's really up to her 😂 but I'm assuming she'd prefer double the capacity for £150 less...

I would not open the Apple one, to save you looking like a peasant when returning the phone to Apple with opened box and made up excuses. It’s better to return an unopened box and tell them you had a change of heart.

No, they don’t care. Open it, use it, return it. Just don’t break it 😂

Can't agree - it has to be better for everyone if it's returned unopened (if you know you don't want to keep it).

Apple may allow it, but unnecessary returns (and stock which can't go straight back on the shelves) adds cost which is ultimately passed on to all of us as consumers.

My 2 cases arrived today:

...that Torras one looks nice.

Personally, never been a fan of Otterbox stuff as its far too bulky.

Surely people can survive one day and not open the apple phone and just return it unopened.. that way it also doesn't have to get recycled and they can look to just resell it.

I get this is an apple forum but cmon people.. what are you going to do, by the time you've opened and transferred everything onto the phone it'll be time to restore it and return it 😂

Ill definitely be returning the Apple one and just telling them I got one off amazon at £150 less, they will more than likely know about it and be like 'ah another one!'

Am I right in saying its 20% VAT on all costs, so the cost of item plus handling charge etc?

You pay 20% VAT on the amount listed on the customs slip stuck to the package (and if applicable duty above the threshold) and occasionally on shipping. The Royal Mail handling charge (which people begrudge but there are actual human involvement in clearing your goods so you get them and costs for declaring to HMRC) is on top of that.

This thread is impossible to keep up with at the moment so I’m not even going to try 🤣 Emerged at the right time though I think. If @kinster can‘t sort anyone out with an EE code send me a message (I think the limit is 1 per hour). I’m now classed as a student as I’m training to teach

I'd really appreciate one too if you are able to, thank you so much :)

don't worry, by the time the iPhone 20 comes out they won't include the phone in the box

I was under the impression they'd open any returned units anyway to check they haven't been swapped out for fakes or something... anyone know?

a bit random, but here is my 'spare' iPhone 8 (from work) sat in a Spigen iPhone 12 / 12 Pro clear case from Amazon - though it won't sit straight for it's picture taking.

feels very small after being on an 11 Pro Max for a year, can't wait.

My point was Apple don’t care. They will accept returned items that have been opened. I didn’t say no one cares.

If you don’t “agree”, take it up with Apple. It’s their policy

I think the rule of thumb with apple products is as long as it has the plastic film around box its good to go. as soon as that's taken off, whether you even take the lid off the box or not it gets fully recycled/sent to be used as an insurance replacement phone

I’ve got a list of 5 of you guys that I’ve made a note of (DM or comment) that I‘ll get around to over the next few hours. If you source one from elsewhere let me know so others can get bumped. Cheers

Blimey that's a phenomenal rapid drain on battery on 5G!
So many variables though:
  • Smart Data on, or 5G all the time?
  • Indoor/outdoor?
  • What 5G band?
  • mmwave or sub-6? Mix of the two?
  • Distance from tower?
etc. etc. Most of the reviews elsewhere say (apart from mmwave, which seems to suck the battery dry) they were getting similar battery life to the 11 / 11 Pro. Interestingly, in the Tom's Guide review they say the 12 Pro lasted 1h longer on 4G-only than the 11 Pro... Need more data I think.

Wouldnt read too much into battery reports. For my sins i recently had the S20 Note Ultra 5G for a week and my god the battery was awful

Anyone here work in financial services and done the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge? The app on iOS is truly awful, it junked my run half way through and I didn't notice it until the end.

Is there a reason why Apple Store pickup is now not showing any stores? Past few days there have been the odd one or two that have appeared for pickup this weekend but not in the colour/size I wanted, but now that's not even an option.

This just means they don't have any in stock to pick up? If someone cancels their order they become available but then pretty much disappear straight away as someone will quickly get the slot
