The only thing with setting up from new I have is my Google authenticator app that I use for work and 101 other things. There is no way to backup and restore the config.
Would highly recommend switching to Authy - syncs over iCloud, and you can have it on your Mac/Watch/iPad too. I used GA in the past and changing phones was a greater headache than it needed to be.

if you can be bothered (not that its any real stress) then sell your phone privately, pay off Barclays, get your apple care refund and then start IUP again.

though then you don't need IUP, you can get the 24 months at 0% now all done online so don't even have to go Ito store, which you would for IUP.

Ah interesting... not going to the store alone is worth probably £50 😂

I wonder though if you do the 24 month one, with the lower monthly payments, you will have more to pay off next year when it comes to upgrade time.

Yes, but it's still the same price.

Is there any consensus whether the iPhone upgrade programme (20 months contract) or the “monthly payments” (24 months contract) is better if you intend to upgrade every year?

Currently on 11 Pro Max on IUP but think if you hand it back you end up losing money. Eyeing up the 12 Pro Max and wanted to plan ahead.

Also - what’s happening for the 12 and 12 Pro for IUP users. Do you need to go into a shop and queue?
Theoretically no difference in cost if you sell privately and pay off the balance as both are 0% loans. You will be worse off just handing it back on IUP. That is presuming you also take out AC+ on the monthly payment plan.

I don’t mind IUP as for the ~£150 over the year I know it’s no hassle to upgrade, though still have the option to sell privately and avoid that.

I wish we had the American IUP as that’s the best of both worlds with the 24 month term. I’m not sure why we don’t, considering Barclays offer the 24 month payments separately.

Yes, but it's still the same price.

Yes fair enough. Hmm... tough decisions. My desire to upgrade is entirely dependent on how good a step the 12 Pro camera is. But I will need to pre-order before hand...

Sorry if this is a basic question, but can you “reserve” / buy a phone on Friday pre-order day if you’re upgrading with the IUP?

Yes, IUP requires an in-store reservation and pick up, whether starting a new contract or upgrading as part of the programme.

Will be there at 8.15am tomorrow to go from 11 Pro to 12 Pro on iup.

Bromley. my temporary home whilst my place is going through renovation means I can set the alarm for 7.50 and still be at the apple store by 8am

....wow - you must literally live right by the high street then right before The Glades shopping centre!

Tried live chat.

They will not budge.

....looks like EE Live Chat is overwhelmed at the moment - can't get on it to check if I can get yet another discount applied, this time for loyalty!!!

EDIT - Just got on, here goes......!!!!!

...I've just tried - they would only give me £1 off as a loyalty discount because they could see I already had a 20% discount code applied.

I guess its better than nothing!!!!

To start a new iUP, you can go for the in-store pickup option, then say you'd like to go on iUP when you're there. To upgrade, it's the same process as the financing, and you reserve an in-store pickup.

Thanks that’s really helpful!

I think I might have found a sort of less hassle loophole actually... you can trade in with Apple, provided you’ve paid off the Barclay’s amount. Apple is offering £580 for Pro Max 11 ; mazuma are now offering £570!

I will have ~£500 of payments left on the Barclays contract. Add in the AppleCare pro-rata refund and I’ll probably be ~£130 better off this way. Then can buy the 12 Pro Max on monthly 24 payments.

Issue with this is waiting for payment on trade in. Can you trade in in store though I presume?

Actually, starting afresh by not restoring backup would solve my problem of having my old phone on iOS 14.2 Beta (I'd probably would have had to bring the new one to that before restoring too).

Good idea!

Strange my watch got delivered by DHL/UK mail but I just got a DPD notification for my boyfriends phone which he's giving back cos he's changed his mind. Same address though.

So are amazon orders going ahead? got 3 separate 512GB orders and 1 128GB (in case amazon were only willing to honour the lower priced/storage models) I need to cancel the 128GB order then

I'm tempted to set it up as a new device this time. Been restoring from backups for years...

....what about password apps and finance apps though - setting up as a new device could potentially not carry this type of data over.

I've never had any issues with restoring from back ups - safest way I think as you know 100% of everything gets transferred.

Let me know how you get on please.

...same here.

No one knows for sure, we're just assuming they are since people with multiple phones in one order received emails saying they'll honour just 1 unit per order.
