....apologies if I misunderstand but why would anyone choose iUP (which is not interest free) vs monthly payments via Barclays which IS interest free??!

Good point. It may just be easier for people to do it that way.

How do you get a refund for AppleCare with monthly payments? Or can you only do that on the IUP?

The Upgrade Programme is interest free - it just gives you the opportunity to hand the phone back after a set number of payments and start over.

You can choose not to and continue paying the monthly fee, which is the cost of the phone and Apple Care spread across 20 payments. The only bit I'm sketchy on is the £69 fee upfront - I can't remember whether this is on top of the retail cost of the phone plus Apple Care, or is considered as your first payment.

The main benefit is ease and convenience for users. Some simply don't want to find a buyer for their old phone/unaware that you can often get more in return from a third party buyer. Of course, this may become a moot point in the future if the resell values of used phones plummets and you end up owing more than the phone can be sold to a third party for - the Upgrade Programme taking the phone back may make more sense.

The 69 is deducted from the total loan value

Anyone returned a 12/12Pro acquired on the Barclays 24 month 0% ? I assume once you initiate the return (for e.g. online through your Apple store account) you don’t also have to contact Barclays ?

After speaking to Apple customer services seems I can’t return the pro to a retail store after all because you don’t get the extra 14 days if bought and your returning back to store

That does not sound right. You should be able to return it.

You could maybe sell it privately if you can’t return it.

I can return it by UPS and after registering a return you have another 14 days again. if it’s a store return he said it needs to be returned within the 14 days

Nightmare scenario for IUP customers, I was really hoping they could figure out a way to do it online.

Callings Barclays now to settle the loan, long wait times on the phone.......

There is no rush to settle the loan if you're moving to Payments.

Anyone know how to get tracking information? My order just says syncreon.
I found the Syncreon page pretty poor but there was a link from that to DHL's tracker.

Bizarrely the package arrived at one depot twice. Without departing in-between!

Click on "To manage your delivery, please click here" to get to DHL.

Syncreon is the distribution company Apple use in the UK. They’re not the delivery company. You will probably need to wait until Syncreon hand your package over to one of Apple’s delivery partners. Once it’s in their system you should be able to track it. You should get email/text confirmation of this or you can regularly check your order on your Apple account.

Does anyone know with the 0% 24 months, if you can pick up in store, or get it delivered to an alternate address?

It is interest free over 20 months.
There really is absolutely no point in going on iUP over payments...... but if someone really is intent on having iUP then why not just do this (using 256GB Pro Max handset as an example):

Day 1: Order phone on 24m int free finance with £0 deposit + include AppleCare
Day 1: Transfer £69 into a savings account
Monthly: Pay Barclays £58.24 via your direct debit
Monthly: Transfer £8.21 into a savings account (difference between iUP cost of £66.45 and your £58.24 payment)
End of month 11: Will owe Barclays £757.12
End of month 11: In savings account you will have £159.31, and will be able to refund 13 months of AppleCare which will be £107.77 = £267.08
End of month 11: In order to reach net cost of zero so can start again would mean needing to sell handset for £490.04. If you only got that much would be an absolute steal as history shows that you should be able to command anywhere between £550 and £750 (assuming in good condition but then that would be an issue with iUP also) depending on where you sell (even Apple themselves will almost certainly offer more than £490 as a trade in). Therefore you will very likely end up in profit vs iUP where would just hand phone back.

The above is why iUP makes no sense over 24m interest free payments - but why you can also effectively recreate it for yourself if so determined.

For me - I prefer to keep the monthly payments lower, not take AppleCare (I have separate insurance through my bank account), and still end up being apple to sell phone for more than I owe after a year (so can start again).

I’m planning on joining apples upgrade programme for the first time and ordering tomorrow. Not sure now though if that will be impacted by the news that iUP temp unavailable in UK... is that just going to impact existing customers looking to upgrade or new customers too? I was hoping Apple would deliver my new phone to my home and I send back the trade in phone afterwards with one of their ‘pack and send’ boxes... confused now!

Not having to spend time trying to sell the phone after a year is worth more than that of my time though. I've still got a draw of old iphone 4/5/6s as never sold them.
