I was wondering the same thing. Those of you setting up as a new phone....what about all your photos/texts/whatsapp data etc if you're not restoring from an iCloud backup?

Sorry if I'm being dumb and missing something super obvious! :D
This should help explain the difference

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. However I have Messages in iCloud and iCloud Photos on so all of that will come back once I log into the phone using my iCloud account. @Jinjin it says in that image that health data is stored in iCloud as long as you've enabled it so you should be fine!

EDIT: just noticed that when you go into iCloud on your phone there's a toggle for 'Watch' so that should transfer over no problem too without having to restore from back-up

My phone has been shipped from giffgaff to DPD 🙌, just had the confirmation that delivery will be tomorrow. Already wishing I had ordered the 512GB or the 1TB model though 🤣 good luck everyone!
GiffGaff appear to be the surprise golden goose this year. You could have ordered pretty much any iPhone 13 at 7:55pm this evening and have it deliveried by DPD first thing tomorrow. @Jinjin let’s get that in the notes for next year! Also, avoid EE at all costs

…..setting up as new means exactly that - your phone will be new with none of your data on it. If you’re not restoring from a back up then you can’t expect all your Fitness stuff and other app info to come across?!

Sorry, I mean I want to set the phone up as new as opposed to restoring from an iCloud backup. Even when setting up as new, I’ll still sign into iCloud which will then bring any data stored in iCloud across to my new phone, however I will have to redownload apps etc as I didn’t restore from a backup.

that's stuff stored inside a backup of your phone rather than what is in iCloud if moving to a new device and setting up as new..?

but most of that will be in iCloud and move to my new phone when I sign in for the first time..

will need to set up EE virtual voicemail again
Correct. The text underneath is the crucial bit along with note 2. As soon as you log in with iCloud that stuff starts getting brought in (assuming you’re already using those services - special mention to Whatsapp which you can store icloud too. Just restore your chat backup when installing the app)

Yeah this is what I was after. I back everything up to iCloud, every slider in iCloud is green haha. What I'm not sure of is the difference between.

A. Restoring a backup from iCloud as part of the phone set up

and

B. Setting the phone up as brand new and then signing into iCloud from Settings.

so to summarise moving the watch to a new phone with a clean install (not restored from back up)

just make sure everything is backed up to iCloud and then uppair on old phone and pair to new. everything else remains.

Must admit I’m not too clued up with the watch. Didn’t someone mention much earlier in the thread not seeing their activity badges move across when setting up as new. Sure I’ve read that somewhere
