Quick question on MagSafe chargers - I'm seeing various different ones on Amazon, most seem to be rated 10W to 15W.

Is this essentially just the speed at which the phone will charge - so the higher the wattage, the quicker the charge ?

Also - anyone recommend a decent one?
The higher the watts (w rating) the faster it will charge.

I recommend the official Apple MagSafe charger but it’s expensive (£39) and to work at its full capacity (15w) needs to be used in conjunction with the Apple 20w wall plug (£19) (or something equivalent).

£58 is pretty pricey for a charging combo.

...thanks for that.

Yea, £39 does seem quite pricey but I expect nothing less from an Apple device! I would also need to buy a USB-C to USB adapter as planning on plugging this into a 7 usb port charger that I have on my desk.

I've actually just come across this, which seems pretty good but obviously charges slower :

Just snagged a Gold Pro Max 13 256GB at Reading via Apple's online reserve page. Minutes before had managed a Graphite (same build) at Covent Garden, but the order/time slot didn't go through. The webiste was being a bit weird. Then suddenly one popped up in Reading. Collecting at 4pm.

I had an order all ready in process for delivery from Apple (payment not yet taken), but that was for the end of October. Have just cancelled that.

Gold wasn't my first choice... usually go for darker colours. But hey ho. A change is as good as a rest. 'Tis a new phone/new colour era for me.

I’ve got one of those and it works well. The phone is upright too which has its advantages. Personally I don’t think there’s any problem about charging at a more leisurely rate. It’s kinder to your battery. Anker make some very good accessories.

Im currently in process of trying to break my work pc by installing Windows 11 😁
At least you have the option. Our IT department have completely locked ours down unless you request temp admin access. We used to be able to do what ever we wanted to our work laptops. People abused it, now it's gone from one extreme to the other.

once it’s in a case you;d not know the difference I suspect. I’ve had gold iPads before as they were cheaper and just popped it in a case!

This place is so toxic for my bank account! You guys just persuaded me to order an iPhone 13 Pro Sierra Blue!

10 minutes ago was so content with my 12 Pro. And 10 minutes later you know the rest haha

Haha.

I look after Accounts and some part of IT department so get away with it.

Blue is the colour of 2021.

Finally up and running. Clean install !!

If anyone buys the Magsafe charger, I highly recommend the Stouchi holder.
Provides the ability to place the handset, and then lift it up without having to manually 'unstick' the magsafe charger etc from the rear - so one handed operation.

Good work, hopefully it won't be too long. I suppose they need to test our VPN, Security, RDS and AntiVirus software before letting us upgrade.

Have any prices been published for the Apple Watch series 7 yet? Or will they be announced when pre orders go live on Friday? I’m going to get a cellular watch this time and trying to decide whether to go with o2 or buy direct from apple. Would be nice to know what the prices are!

Was toying with installing this as well however I have some questions on whether upgrading from W10 to 11 will erase shared drives in my Windows Explorer (I have One Drive and Google Drive - both which are shared)..?!!!!

Yea, that does look nice but is quite pricey if you have to buy the components separately (Amazon) :

Charging stand (doesn't come with the magsafe charger itself) : £17.99
MagSafe charger : £27

I ended up getting this one:

If you go down the upgrade route and choose keep your files/settings option it shouldn’t effect them drives. But then its Windows we talking here.

I had to install it twice to get it working properly as Microsoft Teams Chat is part of Windows setup and some dll files didnt install properly,

I went for the extreme route though. Booted via the usb drive and formatted/partitioned the drives and did a clean install.

Don't forget the 20w plug adapter too £20!!! lol

I had a couple of Apple 20w plug adapters already (through work ;) )
The stand I ordered from Amazon US, since I have vouchers.
So it was just the Magsafe charger I ended up paying for ;)

It is an expensive option though.

I also have this on my desk at work, just in case my watch needs charging too etc, and it works pretty well:

Not that I don't trust Microsoft (or anyone), but I'm almost at the end of several months of scanning in old negatives and transparencies. Hundreds of them. Must be approaching 1,000 now, if not already beyond. I'm not upgrading *anything* on this laptop until that's all done and backed up onto a new T7 :D

Not sure how the chemistry behind batteries really work. But going to start charging my 13 Pro with the 5w charger to avoid the degradation in battery health and only charge overnight and during the day not let it drop below 40%. My anker and ravpower wireless charger (7.5w) really created a lot of heat. Any tips would be great!

My friend has been using Xr since March and charging with the iPad 12w charger (no wireless charging) and battery health is still 100%. So i think wire charging is the way to go, they don’t generate as much heat as wireless.

Ive never really cared much for prolonging battery health TBH.

I used either a 12w iPad charger or an old 5w charger to charge my 11 Pro Max - usually left overnight.
After 2 years it was at 86% health - so it still drops irrespective of wired/wireless.

Ive gone the opposite way now. Ive started using just the MagSafe charger - charging at around 20% and removing the phone when it hits around 80-90%.
Just going to stick with this and stop worrying about battery health. I want to enjoy my phone and the ease of charging etc rather then change the way I use it to prolong battery health.

It’s currently £27 on Amazon

To get the max 15W charge through Apple's Magsafe charger, you'll need a power brick that is PD3.0 AND can output 9v, 2.22A (or higher current).
