Does anyone have any experience with curry’s? They seem to have a load of iPhones in stock. Not sure I trust them though.

So here we are then. Most people have their preorders and accessories sorted. Cutekitty has probably only cancelled and reordered three times so far, but it’s only Monday…

Let’s hear your stories. Who’s been here longest? Any interesting previous preorders?

My first iPhone was the 3G and I’d already been a forum member here for five years! Those of us who preordered through the Carphone Warehouse didn’t get our SIMs activated for three days after delivery. We only figured out it was CPW customers (and that it was all CPW customers) via this forum. CPW blamed O2 and vice versa.

I ended up logging who’d ordered what and when, putting it in a list online (with their permission.) Through that, I ended up being contacted by two national newspapers and asked to give a short interview about our frustrations.

Other interesting launches were the iPhone 4 and 5S. They were the only times where I either couldn’t or didn’t preorder and queued outside the Armdale Centre on launch day, from about 2am. This was back in the day of very long lines for iPhone launches.

The iPhone 4 launch was reasonably nice. I was sixth in the queue which was made up of largely Apple fans. Some were members of this forum. We had a reasonably good time, chatting all things Apple.

The 5S launch was horrible. I was about 30th in the queue but the vast majority were scalpers. Dozens of people pushed in at the front of the queue and, with no security, what could be done? Blokes driving up and down in blacked out cars. Huge stacks of cash changing hands. Likely nothing illegal, but some dodgy characters for sure. An entirely different atmosphere compared to the iPhone 4 launch.

Thankfully, the systems Apple has today, are much better even if this launch didn’t go perfectly smoothly for some.

My first iPhone was the 3GS. Over the years I’ve been going on and off iPhone, owning the 4S, 5, 5S, 6 Plus, 7 Plus, X, XS Max, 12 Pro Max and currently 13 Pro Max. My only preorder horror story was with the 6 Plus, I ordered it on contract with O2 from Phones4U and little did I know at that time Phones4U was going bust. My order was cancelled and I had to wait over a month to get the phone. The only other issue was with the 7 Plus, preordered the Jet Black and shortly before it was released they said that they couldn’t supply Jet Black and in the end I got black.

iPhone 3G was my first too! Back when it was exclusive to O2, so I got the phone from an O2 shop. Albeit this was a month or so after launch.

iPhone 4 is definitely my most memorable launch. I reserved and still had to queue for 3 hours outside the Glasgow Buchanan Street store. It was a great atmosphere though and the iPhone 4 was a massive step change at the time.

I then had every 2nd generation till the 7, and I’ve been here every year since. Hands down this year was the worst for pre-ordering, from my point of view. I’ve always got launch day.

iPhone 4 was my first, like you, queued up for hours and they did not have loads of stock, I ended up having to get lower storage option.

Phone had a fault and had to return it…… which meant I had to go back on the waiting list for a few more weeks. Doh!

That was my first and last launch day queue …. Online ever since then.

Mostly a pleasant and good experience, worst was when a courier company, APC IIRC failed to deliver on the launch day, then for most of the following day told me they had delivered to a place about 7 miles away in a different county, post code etc.

Eventually turned up, but was a stressful few days!!!

So I had a screen protector from ESR for my 12 Pro Max and it didn’t have a notch...was the speaker somewhere else other than the bezel? Never seemed to affect the sound quality?
If I’m correct, yeah the speaker was in the middle of the notch on the 12 - so it was slightly lower down. I can’t speak to the screen protectors of the time because I never owned the 12, but I assumed the cutout for the speaker was in the screen protector too?

Edit: again, I need to read the pages I’ve missed before commenting!! Looks like @johnyslats already mentioned this. Apologies all!
