Wide availability this morning for 14PM of every colour and every storage size to reserve for pickup at 6 am. Lasted for a whole 6 minutes (I counted). Couldn’t make my mind up and also couldn’t bring myself to pay £1.2k when I already had £500 currys gift cards. My next move was to convert some work points into JL gift cards and try at 8am. This time I did some trial runs to make sure gift cards activate immediately and converted £200, only to find Currys come back in stock for every colour at 7:30am. Went and bought Space Black although I was really digging Purple. Figured it’s the safest option without seeing one in person. Should arrive tomorrow before noon (if Currys is to be trusted!).

Sometimes you’d walk in and wait ages to be able to speak to someone as they were always busy, so maybe the changes were made so provide a better experience, so booked slots and no waiting around. Thought I admit the Apple Store experience has changed over time and walking in to have a look around doesn’t feel as comfortable as it used to be.

Maybe I'm biased or looking at things through rose tinted glasses but in the early 2010s things were so different. It was always hella busy but there was a huge focus on championing every customer and going above and beyond. And it was organised very well - someone would be there to triage overflows of people coming in, the Genius Bar was run very efficiently and personably. Not sure if it's the same now but we all had radios to communicate with the whole store (we'd also have a laugh over them too).

There were no time limits for how long you could spend with customers and we were trained and encouraged to make everyone as happy as humanly possible - and managers would often be on hand to authorise goodwill gestures left right and centre.

It was chaos - especially on weekends, and launches were just unbelievable with miles-long queues snaking out from the store - but it was beautiful chaos and a time of my life I remember so fondly and nostalgically.

Much like Apple as a whole (I still love them don't get me wrong) I think the stores have shifted in ideology and lost a bit of their Steve Jobs sparkle over the last decade. From launch days to repair processes it's less 'we will bend over backwards to help you' and more 'soz no, come back later bye'.

Yerrrrsssss!

This is where my DPD app is up to as of just now, fingers crossed I get an update in the next hour or so saying it’s out for delivery despite the app telling me it’ll be Tuesday.

It’ll be tomorrow, if not today.

Just had a “huddle” with our DPD Account Manager (for my business). She’s alluded to the fact that depots don’t have sufficient “secure cage capacity” and are therefore delivering the “high value” consignments on Saturday and some on Sunday - even if it is contrary to the “service level agreement with the sender”.

Wondering how my guardian angel @Jackmw14 is doing, whether he has his slot, if so if it clashes with his morning meeting, how he's feeling about the moment of truth for my silver arriving in ~4-5 hours... 🥺🙏🏼

My slot is 11:55 - 12:55 for my lovely space black. Today is the day you will either be happy or swearing about your disastrous life choice of listening to me 😂

Fr DPS notification, mine coming between 7:58 and 8:58. However I’m out of ethe next hour taking kids to school. Hopefully wife hears doorbell when it rings.

For all people having to wait an extra day, at least you still get to set it up over the long weekend. This will be my first iPhone in 9 years since I recycled my iPhone 4. Going to iPhone 14 Pro Space Black 128GB to go with the MacBook Pro 14 I got last year. I'm excited, but I had to do some work when the pre-orders went live, so was 45 mins late ordering and apparently, that equates to 3rd - 10th October. Just hoping it arrives in the earlier half as I'm away the latter half. I will suffer my Samsung Note9 (also the longest I've ever gone without a new phone - 4 years) a little longer.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys the new phones, looking forward to seeing some pictures.
