Adding to the case discussion, I also received my case today. Impressed how well the 3 year old 6s Plus case has held up. Looking forward to using the metal buttons on the new case too, instead of mushy leather with no feedback.

The X = 10. That's what Apple say so no argument - otherwise you'll be the idiot. I find people who have little technological expertise tend to pronounce is as 'ex' and they call Mac OS X 'Mac OS ex' too. It demonstrates ignorance to be honest.

The one on the left is the leather Cape Cod blue, the one of the right is Silicon Denim Blue, which is probably 3 or 4 months old now.

I agree. Not ignorance, but those to whom you say it as 'ex' and who know it is '10' are likely to deem it ignorant. It doesn't mean the person is ignorant, it just looks that way. It says something about the person for sure, like when people write Sky as $ky, or Microsoft as Microsh*t. We make judgements about people which are often wrong.

Sorry to be one of those people asking something probably quite obvious to those that know - Im fully familiar with the o2 pre-order process having gone through them the last ~10 years but less so with the Apple pre-prder process.

Due to a shambolic attempt at upgrading through o2 I decided to chance Apple sim-free but was quoted 25/9-2/10 for delivery by the time I got round to it...

I might be wrong but seem to remember previous years some people say these later dates can move forward closer to release date?

Can anyone familiar with pre-ordering through Apple quickly advise when they would expect the delivery date to move forward if it was at all - would it have happened by now, or can it move as late as a day or so before?

I'm pretty underwhelmed to say the least with these latest models - the larger screen being the only real draw - so was tempted not to get the latest model for the first time since the original iPhone if delivery was going to drag on a couple weeks.

Does the sales assistant close your current agreement before applying for the new one or do they keep it open (in case of decline) and close the old one after?

Does this not cause an issue at Barclays in that you are trying to take out a second agreement whilst the first one is still 'active'?

I'm in a similar situation. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't do my usual thing and jump on the pre-orders as soon as they opened to get a Friday delivery. Now the 64GB SG Xs is showing delivery of 26 Sep - 3 Oct (maybe 2 Oct, I forget). If it was guaranteed 26th it would be no big deal but I'm going away for 2 months in mid Oct and I want the full 14 days while I'm still in the UK to have a good play with it and make sure I'm happy with it, it'll be my first FaceID iPhone.

What is the "second wave reservation" thing that you mention? Is that a standard thing with new phone launches where after launch day any Apple stores that didn't get rid of all their units either because people didn't pick up reservations or because walk-in trade wasn't as high as anticipated open up reservations on the stock they still have? If yes then I might try the same thing this weekend.

My thoughts on your question - I would swing by the Regent Street store given you say it's close. I don't think anyone quite knows how many people will hold off Xs until they see Xr. I suspect there are enough people who want the biggest and best and will go for the Xs+ anyway with hardly a glance at the Xr to sell out the Xs+ stock completely on launch day whereas there just might be enough potential Xs buyers holding off until they can see the Xr to leave some launch-day stock unsold if stores do tend to provision some extra units for walk-in trade beyond what is pre-reserved. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part but it's what I'm hoping for.

One handed operation is certainly a concern, too- I can’t reach the top of the screen with my thumb on my 8 Plus, so there’s no chance I can get anywhere near that on the Max. Finally, there’s no significant advantage to going for the bigger phone, apart from the larger screen (obviously). With the 6-8 Plus, the better camera and battery was a big draw from me. In this case there is not enough enough of a difference to justify the discomfort.

That’s my thinking anyway.

Biggest shocker for me is the fact that the iPhone XS Max has exactly the same screen size as the iPhone XS in that on the XS Max, you don't get any extra row of icons or extra info when in any app, when compared to the XS. The Max is displaying the same screen as the XS but in just a bigger format.

I'm pretty sure this was not the case with the 8 and 8 Plus as the Plus sized screens did actually display more info.....

This has cemented my decision that I made the right choice going from the 8 Plus to the XS.

I've done this very same thing - going from the 8 Plus (my first ever Plus sized iPhone BTW!) to the iPhone XS, purely because I feel the XS is the perfect size iPhone which has a screen size, bigger than that of the 8 Plus (measured diagonally).

I often found the 8 Plus, just a little too big - especially when sitting down and it is inside a front trouser pocket as you definitely notice its presence (I also can't bend down to tie my shoelace if my 8 Plus is in my pocket, it's so big!!!!) so the XS makes perfect sense for my usage (I don't watch media on my device so the notch won't bother me).

In the same boat; pre-ordered 8.18am delivers to Central London 24th-1st

My order, done via the business unit has the same delivery dates. I believe they hit the button for the order around 14:00 on Friday. (Hence why the watch is middle of next month)

Am hoping against hope that the order will come on Friday... but we will have to wait and see

After reading a couple of reviews I am more excited than I thought I’d be to get it his piece of kit on Friday! The camera looks fantastic and it seems like the speed through 4g is vastly improved.

Granted, I’m coming from a 6s so this is all exaggerated for me but I cannot wait to take this thing travelling and get snap-happy!

clause 2.e states

Termination of Original Instalment Loan After Exercising Upgrade Option. Upon successfully exercising your Upgrade Option, entering into a New Instalment Loan, and completing your Upfront Payment on your New Instalment Loan with Bank as outlined above, Apple will pay any remaining balance due under your original Instalment Loan on your behalf to Bank, and Bank will consider your original Instalment Loan to be paid in full. Your original AppleCare+ policy will be cancelled and a new AppleCare+ policy issued to you. Subsequent monthly payments will be made under the terms of your New Instalment Loan, subject to the conditions of “Return of New, Upgraded iPhone After Exercising Upgrade Option” as set forth below.

I've never understood people that say they can't reach the top of their phone..?!

I'm guessing you are one of the hundreds of people who hold the phone with 3 fingers on the back, your pinky finger at the bottom (the base of the phone, where the speakers are, rest on your pinky) and with your thumb, hovering over the screen, ready to navigate. Well, of course, in this position, then it is extremely difficult to reach the top of the display as your thumb, physically does not reach up there......

However.....

I have taught myself to hold the phone differently - with ALL four fingers, against the back of the phone (the phone rests at a 45 degree angle on the four fingers) with your thumb hovering above the screen ready to navigate. In this position, it is extremely easy to reach the top of the display and even well beyond it. Your fingers all hold the phone and your thumb navigates the screen.

It really irks me whenever I see iPhone users using their pinky as in the first method - it's no wonder they can't reach the top of the screen..!!!😵

I just emailed to ask for a short extension from the initial 14 days and they gave me an additional week - I placed the sale order before the event to lock in a higher price.. just an FYI for anyone else who's selling through Envirofone.

I believe that once the first shipment is out of the way it tends to move. Don't hold your breath though. Yes, there is a chance and likely, but it is not 100% certain.

its probably a combination of non collected stock, failed IUP/IP credit checks and more deliveries coming in.

Finally someone who thinks like me! My 6s Plus has beautiful Full HD screen (that's why I bought it) but the size is too big and taking photos or selfies on this phone is a nightmare.

unfortunately there is no certainty to this as all.

pre-order date was: 27/10/17
release date was: 3/11/17

my order was 27/10/17 - 8.08 and I was given 'dispatches:2-3 weeks'

30/10/17 - order status changed to: delivers '13-20 Nov'

7/11/17 - order changed to 'preparing for dispatch'

8/11/17 - order status changed to 'dispatched'

8/11/17 - order status changed again to ' delivers 09/11/17'

got phone from UPS on 9th!

so from apple quoting me 2-3 weeks before its dispatched, to me getting the phone in my hand less that a week after release says something. This was the the 'popular, stock constricted X'.

make if it what you will, I'd hazard a guess saying there is more stock of the Xs and Max this year than there was of the X last.. fingers crossed this means it ships soon... but its no guarantee .

gives me some security when holding the phone and lets me text too. I could't text properly if I was gripping the phone in the middle with all fingers around it. it wold have to be two handed use at that point.

I remember the stress of using the phone in selfie mode at full arms length and gripping the phone at the bottom edge with fingers just trying to press the take photo button... eek

did ask the same yesterday and they extended too but then someone pointed out the music magpie 'tech10' voucher code which takes the amount above what envirofone offered and gives me 14 days

As you say, seems like much less demand this year - think o2 are still showing stock of all handsets for delivery from release day which usually isnt the case 5 minutes after pre-orders open!

Will wait and see!

yup, call apple up and do it.. think its the only way. They then issue the refund to Barclays who would take it off any remaining balance, and if there's none, then refund you.

Man I am confused. So the first thing I do is cancel the applecare? Then Apple refund that amount and take it off any remaining balance I owe Barclays. I then sell the phone and contact Barclays to pay off what is left?

I need a step by step here...!
