A quick bit of advice if anyone can help.

I'm upgrading from a 3gs to the 4s, and I'm still under contract with Vodafone for about 4 months.

I've bought the 4s unlocked and will move to Sim free when my contract expires. I need a new Micro Sim though and will go into Vodafone later today, or over the weekend to get one.

I assume that I can plug the phone into iTunes and get it up and running without the Sim being in it (obviously it won't work as a phone) and then put the Sim in later, or do I need a Sim in it for it to do anything.

Sorry if it's a stupid question. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to Apple stuff, but I know very little about the phone bit.

UPS delivery

UPS site indicated that mine was due for delivery on Monday:(

Phoned local depot this morning to see what was happening and they

took my number and said they would phone back. And guess what

they did and they say its on the van and should arrive about lunchtime :)

great service from UPS :D

I've just spoken to a nice lady at my UK Mail depot.

Apparently UK Mail are a bit swamped and the phones arrived at the delivery depots late this morning, in a lot of cases after the delivery vans left for their rounds.

So I'm going to go and pick mine up.

I suggest you find which depot your phone is at and ring them to arrange collection if you want your phone today.

I like in Cambridge and there's no UK Mail depot here (the nearest one is around 50 miles away). Can't they do a Saturday delivery?

Btw my status on UKMail says "Delivery Problem" and the last tracking info is "Scanned out" from Northampton (there's one before that saying "In Delivering Warehouse Scan". Is there any hope for today?

I feel I'm just one of the unlucky ones here, people are getting their even now from TNT, UPS, etc.

I've never herd of SYNCREON PARCEL DELIVERY before, are they using UK mail to deliver the parcels?

Mine just says delivery at 1800 (presumably the latest time it will be).

Just arrived via UPS, Aylesbury in Bucks. Driver said he had 18 on the van for delivery today.

No, you must have a SIM in it to activate it when you first use it.

Glasgow, United Kingdom 10/14/2011 6:14 A.M. Out For Delivery

16GB White ordered through Apple on launch - shipped through UPS. Got my girlfriend waiting patiently at the door. :D

Some advice for anyone ordering a new product from the Apple Store: DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING ELSE AT THE SAME TIME!

I ordered a MacBook Air as well (for VAT reasons they need to be on the same order) and the Air and the iPhone have each delayed each other due to the way Apple's systems work (which isn't very well).

First of all the iPhone 4S delayed the MacBook Air, which was completed in China several days ago, but had to sit there until the iPhone 4S was ready to ship (from the UK) for some strange reason.

Now the Air is delaying the iPhone 4S because the phone is now sitting in the UK ready to be shipped but it has to wait for the Air to come over from China, be delivered to the same warehouse and then be delivered together to my address.

I found this out from customer services, who said this was due to credit card laws meaning that the goods had to be shipped together. Why this prevented them shipping the Air from China the moment it was assembled I have no idea. And Amazon don't seem to have any problem shipping orders separately.

So it looks like I have to wait another week because Apple's delivery logistics are highly inefficient when you order something else on the same order as a new product that they are holding back for release day.

As I say, the upshot is not to order anything else when a new product comes out, unless you have to (which unfortunately I did).

I can see that that would be frustrating, but to be fair to Apple, they do state that multiple items might delay an order - and categorically ask you if you might consider dividing the order up to speed up delivery.

I know this for a fact, as I ordered a MacMini and 2 iphones. They were both for business use, but as the billing information is the same, having 2 invoices instead of 1 wasn't a problem.

My MacMini is still on its way from China. The iphones are on the van for delivery today.
I'm not posting to gloat, just in fairness to Apple, they did point this out at the point of ordering.

You need a valid sim to activate

Has to be said the screen on my old iPhone 4 was better. Must be a different manufacturer on my unit. This was seems more washed out...colours don't pop as much.

Hahaha

I just said "i love you" and Siri goes" Oh, i bet you say that to all your Apple products"

You know me too well.

I kinda failed to mention that I'm doing an upgrade, and placed the order over the phone... Perhaps that could be why... I think the error is with the website, rather than upgrades over the phone.

I feel sorry for you though. :( I wish it would just turn up for you today, then we're all happy!
If you're a new customer and you've ordered on the website, I think it's going to be through Royal Mail... I couldn't imagine how mega pee'd off I'd be if I couldn't get it until next Friday. :(
Thanks, appreciate your sympathy! Colleague ordered via the Web and his arrived by Royal Mail special delivery. So its puzzling why mines been delayed given he ordered so much later.

If it is RM it means at worst I could go to sorting office on Monday afternoon to get it. Still not too happy, old K750i I've got has now become unusable!
