These prices are insane.

I really want an iPhone 5 and usually go for the top end so that the tech lasts longer, but £700?

Ok guys, I know a lot of things are uncertain or can't be answered at the moment but please can you offer some advice to me?

Firstly, I fly to Egypt for 1 month on the 28th September, so I would love to get my hands on one by the 27th at the latest. Do you think this is achievable and what would be the best way to go about making sure it happens, please?

I am currently with 3 and my 2 year contract for my iPhone expired in July. So I'm ready to ditch them and go with someone else. I definitely don't want to be with 3 again.

I have noticed a lot of you mentioning EE and GiffGaff, which I'm not really familiar with unlike the household names like Orange/T-Mobile, Vodaphone and 3. So, is there a risk of the signal being poor if going with someone like EE or GiffGaff?

I don't really want to fork out a one off cost to have an offline iPhone, especially when I'd ideally like the 64gb version. So I'll happily get into another 2 year contract as I wouldn't be bothered about an iPhone 5s equivalent in a years time, but I would want the potential iPhone 6 in 2 years time.

Are you only able to get the iPhone offline through the Apple store, or will they have contract offers to take up on the 21st? If so will they be limited or would you expect all tariffs to be on offer from which you would find by going to, say, the Orange store direct?

I would obviously like to take advantage of the 4G ASAP, so what would be the best way to go about this, as well as taking everything above into account? I'm from Birmingham which I understand is on EE's list.

Thanks in advance, I'll just be so gutted if I miss the boat and don't get one in time to take to Egypt with me. Sad I know!

Hi Guys,

Probably a stupid question... But I'll be in vegas on the 21st and hope to pick up an iPhone there. Which version should I get and will that work with our 4g over here when it eventually arrives?

Cheers

What do you expect for an offline phone!? Get one on contract and surely it'll be around half the price.
I remember when the iPhone 4 was released 2 years ago that it was going for £1k on eBay.

EE = Everything Everywhere = Owner of Orange & T-Mobile in the UK.

With apologies from the off if I'm asking something really stupid.......

EE uses/will be using for LTE the frequency band 1800MHz.

The Ofcom auction next year is for two further frequency bands 800Mhz and 2.6Ghz.

We know that iPhone 5 is compatible with lots of bands around the world and certainly is with the 1800Mhz band that EE have.

Will it however be compatible with both of the two other bands up for auction?

I'm currently with O2 and would prefer to stay with them! even if LTE is still 12mths away - but could O2, for example, win the auction for a frequency band not supported by the iPhone 5?

I can't find anything on the Apple site to confirm which bands exactly the iPhone 5 will work with.

Does anyone know or is this a really stupid question?

gaaah hope the 32GB is still £599 as I have a £600 credit limit on my card so otherwise will have to pay by debit card (no cashback). Does anyone know if It will be possible to preorder either online or in store over 2 cards? If not would I be able to do this once it has come out?

On another note, GG have said theyre posting a blog entry about nano sims tomorrow. Hopefully they'll have sorted something out. If not ill probably just keep my current phone until they do, or possibly get the best of the PAYG deals on the 5.

Hi skippy, not sure if this is of any good to you but I recently went into the Apple Store to buy a MacBook Pro and I used two cards to pay for it. The girl just asked how much I want taken out of each card and it went through no problem.

Thanks!

Jack

I have the same problem even with the 16GB, my limit's £500. Bad times.

Awesome news, let's hope they're prepared this time! :D

Just joined giffgaff 2 or 3 months ago and loving it even with my crappy android 2.2 phone! Really hope they get nano sims out soon!

Buying the Iphone5 on release day in UK

Never been to a apple store on release day always had mine posted. Do you book in a slot on the apple website? or is it a free for all from 8am?

I remember going to store at 6.30am to queue, they handed out numbered tickets according to how many phones they had, which meant people didn't waste time, my mate got there 15mins later than me and had to run to the other store.

Only thing is when people changed their mind at the tils based on which phone they wanted

bollox to that!

my iphone 4 vodaphone contract ran out 4 months ago. I moved to 3 unlimited data, 1 month rolling to save money until the release of the iphone 5.

plan now is to turn up at a orange or t-mobile store at 8am (whichever has the samllest que) with my PAK code and grab one. dont mind which as their both turning to EE. i do believe Brighton is a going to be one of the first cities to trail 4G/LTE :)

For people going abroad

Just a heads up on anyone thinking of getting an iPhone 5 in the States.

According to a few articles released yesterday the iPhone 5 will now come in 3 models.

GSM Model A1428 (USA ATT/Canada)
GSM Model A1429 (UK, Europe, Asia)
CDMA Model A1429 (USA Sprint/Verizon Japan)

Now from my understanding the first two are world phones in terms of utilizing the current 3G signal and can be used both in Europe and the USA BUT when it comes to LTE you will be limited to the spectrum from where it was purchased.

In other words if you purchase an iPhone in the USA to use in the UK it will work but you will be limited to 3G and not able to utlise LTE until returning to the States.

It also means that If you took your UK iPhone 5 to the States and managed to get an ATT payg nano sim you would be limited to 3G and not be able to use LTE in the States.

I'm off to New York in October so will see how this plays out when I have my iPhone 5 out there.

I don't believe that is the case

According to this document

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

There are only two models: A1428 and A1429
(don't forget 4G LTE uses spread spectrum just like CDMA, so if the phone support LTE, the radio module inside must be able to work on a CDMA network)

If you want a phone to work in both EU and USA, you should get A1429 and use the Verizon SIM while you are in the US.

I'm on contract with O2 for my iPhone and 3 for my iPad. My iPhone contract is up in a month so I will scan the airwaves for deals and availability. The real issue is that we live in the middle of nowhere and our current broadband is narrow and the O2 signal quite weak so unless Dave Macaroon's government suddenly do something Its not likely to be an advantage for a couple of years.

You go and stand in line. First come first serve. Me and my friend did it for iPhone 4. We were all done in around 3 hours or so. (Apple Trafford Center)

Been trying to find EE plan rates, does anyone have a clue what they will be or a URL to get to them without having to register?
