Y'know, if there's one thing I wish Apple would bring over to the UK from their US operation it's properly syncing up the online and in-store businesses.
My iPhone got here about an hour ago. Opened it up and immediately noticed a rattling from inside the case, as if the battery isn't glued down. Somehow managed to get a genius bar appointment booked for tomorrow (don't ask how, utter fluke I think) and then remembered the trouble I had with my last iMac...
For those that don't know, on-line purchases can be looked at and repaired in store but not refunded and replacements are often a bit tricky to get through. A few phone calls to Apple and they confirmed the retail store is unlikely to be able to help and I should really return it via the on-line store. This is a major problem for me as I can't take time off in the next few weeks to wait at home and couriers can NEVER find my office (seriously, not one in three years has made it without being guided in on the phone). After further discussions with Apple (who I have to say are being incredibly patient and friendly considering the load they've gotta be under today) I am indeed going to my genius appointment... but mainly so the store can raise the return and handle the delivery bit for me. Oy.
Annoying thing is it's a great looking device and feels wonderful. Mine was scuff free too, doubly annoying! Ah well, will get a refund for now and pick one up once the stores have stock again in a month or two.
