Got this on chat from an apple representative:
"So iPhones are shipped in the queue that they were ordered
We had 9 million orders in the first 3 days
Your iPhone will be dispatched when your order is next in the queue"
Doesn't seem to be the case though....

It's usually pretty easy to find the plane its on, but there are no UPS flights out of Shenzen, not even scheduled.

That's obviously an oversimplification. My confirmation email was timed at 00:00, and still no change (64GB gold). There's more to it than that.

Why isnt that good? Thats the window apple said 7th-10th and they seem to be sticking to it.

If you follow instructions in earlier posts, UPS give a more accurate and earlier estimate if you use the tracking number

Use the number beginning with 1z. Mine also has an estimate of the 7th on Apple's website but when you go on UPS it's Wednesday.
I find the ups delivery dates are quite accurate. My MacBook sat in Germany for 20 hours for no apparent reason, and still arrived on the expected date. It's like they were so determined to get it right they tried to waste time in between.
Has anyone noticed their status go from processing to preparing for dispatch in the last few hours? ie. you checked a few hours ago and it was processing and now it's preparing.

Yeah, the only time they got it wrong was for my iMac last December which apparently "missed" a truck coming from Germany. It was delivered the day after.
Only 32 and 64 though it seems, as 16s have been shipping. That doesn't make much sense.

64GB Space Grey ordered 00:07 20/09 - changed to "Preparing For Dispatch" today, within the last couple of hours.
Got my dispatch notification email earlier for my 16gb Gold! If I click the track delivery button on Apple it says my order will be here on the 7th October but if I do it through the UPS site it says it will be here by the end of Wednesday (2nd) so very pleased with that

Depends where they're made. May well be that a production line has been dedicated to the 16GB model and another for the 32/64.
My 2 Gold 16gb's are due to be delivered Weds - thats a great result if that happens (to those of us who were of the mindset we were not gonna see these till Oct 7th-10th anyway)..
My 64gb silver changed to preparing for dispatch an hour or so ago while I was out shopping I think apple we're waiting for me to stop staring at the page, willing it to change with the power of my mind! Lol.

Unsure whether I'll be able to work from home on Wednesday but it appears that my local depot is open until 8pm so might be able to pick it up that evening. Anyone know how long UPS require after a failed delivery before you can pick up in person?
